LOL . They try to compare this team to the 2013 team when this team and that team are the exact opposites of one another. This team is a cross between 2010 and 2012 IMO. A ton of high draft picks like 2010 but like 2013 a good amount of experience .

Funny.......

every year they say the same thing, and every year I get the same sensations watching the UK/UL game....

dumb-dumber-piss-bottle-o.gif

Rivalry games are almost always close just by the nature of the competitiveness and atmosphere. I think this year UK wins by 10+. UK will have the best 3 players on the floor at almost any given time as well as home court advantage. UL will try and press and UK will eat it up.
This game won't be close. I will say 12 - 16.

And HACK...don't forget that part of the UL defense...

My favorite of the thread...
"How many preliminary dodge ball games will UK play before our game?"

Sure, let's take a look at the schedule up until that point.

UL

Samford-Home
Hartford-Home
North Florida-Home
St. Francis Brooklyn-Home
Saint Louis-NY
Michigan State-Away/Michigan
Grand Canyon-Home
Eastern Michigan-Home
Kennesaw State-Home

The immense ignorance and delusion of their fan base is always good for a head shake and laugh.

And +10 during a rival game is a blowout imo.

And to add to Banksy's post, UK plays 4 games outside of Rupp...the Birds play outside of the Chum Center twice...TWICE! Geez those people amaze me. Every time I think the IU fan base is the dumbest, UL steps up to the plate and hits a grand slam proving that they are. They amaze me at times.

I can't believe that some of them still wonder if Cal will be able to "handle all of the egos", or they state that Cal got lucky during (insert F4 year).

In other words, in a 6 year run with 4 F4s (incl championship), 1 E8, and an NIT, many of them point to the NIT year as the norm and the other years as outliers.

Those Card fans are like those statisticians who calculate a voting turnout of over 100% in all those rigged third world elections.

Guys, how about the false hype of Goodwin, Cauley-Stein, Wiltjer, and Poythress. Let's see, NBA, NBA, potential CPOY (NBA maybe), and NBA maybe. That's a real group of basketball burnouts there.

They will learn.
Actually they won't, they haven't learned yet. I jist like reading the carnage on their board after another loss to UK. It's like they're stunned. They truly believe they are the better team and the better program.
They is the definition of delusional.

UL fans have always had delusions of grandeur. Its been their defining trait since I can remember. Football makes their first BCS bowl years back and they act like they are Alabama. Funniest thing to me is that UL fans don't really know their own history. UL friends of mine tried to poke fun at UK football and how much better UL is and I asked them "what's the lifetime head to head record". Clueless.

"This UK team reminds me of their NIT team. A lot of hype and talent coming in, but just not the one stud they usually have that puts them over the top."
Yep, that one is ridiculous. Another poster a bit further down agreed with him.
But just looking at that statement with logic (I know, logic is out the window with those guys), the first thing you have to look at is returning players.
Returning players
The 2012-13 team had Jarod Polson, Twany Beckham, Kyle Wiltjer, and Jon Hood returning who actually played minutes the previous year.Only one of those guys played any key minutes the previous season- Wiltjer.
This team has Alex Poythress, Marcus Lee, Tyler Ulis, Dominique Hawkins, Derek Willis, and EJ Floreal. This team has a clear advantage.
Point Guard (Everyone knows the floor leader is critical)
The 2012-13 team had Ryan Harrow, the NC State transfer. He was hyped and did have some skill, but his mental state was questionable. Polson was his backup and was the hero in several different games that season.
This team has Tyler Ulis, a guy who played key minutes in every game last season, all the way to the Final Four. His ability is proven and unquestioned. Backing him up, UK has Briscoe and Murray, only the 2 best point guards in the class. There is no comparison.
Front Court
The first comparison should be obvious- Alex Poythress as a senior or as a freshman, which would you prefer? Now, Nerlens Noel was a stud defensively, without question, but he was very raw offensively. Cauley-stein wasn't ready for prime time that season. These were athletes without much skill. The best offensive frontcourt player was Kyle Wiltjer, who was basically trying to carry the offensive load for that team, inside and out.
This team has a mature Alex Poythress and a mature Marcus Lee and has added a skilled freshmen in Labissiere and Humphries. All of these guys have the ability to score the ball, in addition to playing excellent defense. 2012-13 was probably a better shot blocking team, but this one can defend and score. The upperclassmen can do the dirty work here while the freshman plays his game. This team is clearly better.
Wings
The 2012-13 had grad transfer Julius Mays and freshman Archie Goodwin on the wings. It also had Alex Poythress trying to play the 3 and the 4 at different times, and we all found out he's not a 3. Mays likely wasn't intended to be a starter, but that's where he ended up. Archie Goodwin was a very talented athlete but he was sloppy with the ball and inconsistent with his shooting and effort.
This team has multiple options on the wing. Isaiah Briscoe and Jamal Murray are top 10 players. Matthews was underrated due to injury as a recruit and has a 44in vertical to add to his 6-9 wingspan. Mulder is an excellent athlete in his own right and is a proven shooter. Murray may be the best guard UK has had since Brandon Knight. He has deceptive quickness and finds ways to score. He has court vision and instincts of Wall with the shooting ability of Lamb. He's a transcendent talent, in my opinion. And Briscoe is a guy who would likely be the talk of the class if not for Murray and Skal. He's a top 10 pg in his own right and has trimmed his fat and become quicker. His ability to get to the rim is truly special. Add it all up and, once again, this year gets the clear edge.

Bottom line, the only way you could compare this year's team with 2012-13 would be without looking any further than a roster list.
#1 Both teams have a transfer (Mays and Mulder)
#2 Both teams have a sophomore pg (Harrow and Ulis)
#3 Both teams have a highly rated but thin freshman starter at center (Noel and Labissiere)

But the comparisons stop right there. If a person didn't look further than a roster list, they could make that statement. But those who have actually done their homework (or even watched an exhibition) would know better. It's a poor comparison.

Thanks for link crankdatmustard, that was a very comical thread.

I compared UK 2012-13 to UK 2015-16 above, but the original post in that thread was saying UL will beat the Cats in Rupp.
I didn't attempt to disprove that theory because, well, it's totally ridiculous.
When you look at the current UL team, the first thing that should jump out at you is that they have 2 grad transfers who are starters and their best players, and it's not very close. That is really all you need to know. So far, against each other and Bellarmine, those guys look pretty good. But we must remember, Trey Lewis played at Cleveland State and played well. Damion Lee played at Drexel and was very good. If Louisville was playing in one of those conferences, they'd be in business this season. But they play in the ACC. And playing UK at Rupp will be the biggest game of those boys' lives. The Cards still have 21 feet of suck, also, don't forget that. And they added an extra foot of suck this year with Raymond Spalding. Oh, I always forget Stockman, who is also a waste of space. Altogether now, it's Mathiang, Onuaku, Mahmoud, Spalding, and Stockman, so that's 35 feet of suck. I'm gonna have to review my multiplication tables. 2 of those guys will start, by the way. Mathiang and Onuaku have become decent interior defenders but neither is an offensive threat if paid any attention. Their starter at the 3 against Bellarmine was freshman Deng Adel who rivals rated #47 in the class and is not an impact player.

Final word on that- neither the coaches nor the AP have ranked Louisville as a top 25 team in their preseason polls. The fact is that Louisville lost their top 4 players and replaced them with guys who wouldn't have sniffed the floor last year. The idea that they would come into Rupp and beat this UK team is beyond far fetched. It's ridiculous nonsense. But hey, consider the source, right? :D

EAT YOUR HEART OUT, SKAL!!

By that time, won't we have 2 bigs on the roster that are beefier than anybody Louisville has (we already have 1 in Humphries who is 7'0, 260#)? And one that is worlds and worlds more skilled in Skal?

Well darn. Now I'm worried about the UofL game.

At first I thought UK would win because they have a vastly superior team. But now that they point out that we are all unproven, too many egos, Cal can't coach, he went to an NIT once, can't handle their pressure, etc. I mean how could we possibly counter those air-tight arguments?

I'm also worried that in 2 months it will change to, "well any idiot could win with all that talent." Once again air-tight logic.

Honestly, I highly doubt those guys know Isaac exists. I fully expect that game will be backdoor and lob central once they start cheating out to the perimeter to try and pressure the guards. Mango and "Nanu" aren't quick or skilled enough to keep up with anyone in UK's frontcourt, let alone if they have to help stop penetration.

Just as I suspected, they'll be fat from eating all them cupcakes[winking]

Louisville's non conference schedule is a freaking joke. I hope the voters do not reward them by putting them in the top 25 winning against weak competition.

Most Louisville fans have enough sense to admit that UK is a top ten team and defeating them, especially in Rupp, is going to be very difficult.

Also anyone that thinks this UK team is similar to the NIT team, also keep in mind that they were a tournament team with Noel, doesn't know college basketball. In other words people saying that this team is like the NIT team is saying that this team is like the 2012-2013 team after Noel was injured. See how ignorant that sounds?

Well, let's tally -

we have Poythress, who is one of the strongest players in all of CBB. Puts up 20 on the 185 bench.

We have Humphries who is still a kid and isn't developedenough yet but has a massive frame, much heavier than any of their bigs.

And (in case we need insurance against their might come tourney time) we have the son of a world champion lumberjack coming in - doesn't say much about basketball, but if nothing else, he's probably strong. He's got a very similar frame to the 6'9 240ish incoming freshman Julius Randle.

Nowhere near the skill of Randle, obviously, but I have a hard time believing that their offense-less African conglomerate of guys who are built like Gumby are going to be pushing him around.

They have two guys on the roster who are listed heavier than the Harrison twins.

Where do they get this stuff? Poythress will devour their puny souls.

LOL UL is going to be horrible with a capital H . They literally have 1 player who would see any minutes whatsoever on this team and it is the kid from Drexel. Let that sink in - UL's best player is a Drexel transfer . That's like when UK was excited about Nate Knight joining the team. UL is going to lose a ton of games and Pitino will be gone after this year . Usually rivalries are close but I could easily see a game like 85-53 or something . They are like the 6th best team in a our nonceference this year.
