Sam Lecure is excited right now along with all of us. Said De La Cruz is Billy Hamilton (speed) & Adam Dunn (power) in the same body. Closest thing the Reds ever had was Eric Davis with both power & speed. Didn't have Griffey Jr. during his prime.
Elly’s statcast numbers are ridiculous:
So, yes, we’ve heard about De La Cruz’s power, but in his next plate appearance he hit a triple, logging the fastest home-to-third time in the majors this season and the second fastest in four seasons, according to MLB. He ran at 30.9 feet per second and it took just 10.83 seconds to go from home to third. He also struck out on three pitches against Dodgers rookie Nick Robertson, who was making his big-league debut.
The Reds haven’t had a cycle since June 2, 1989, when Eric Davis — who also wore No. 44 — hit that achievement.
The excitement over De La Cruz had been building as the tales of his feats in the minors became rampant in the StatCast era, including the 118.8-mph double he hit earlier this season, the hardest-hit ball in either the majors or Triple A this season.
De La Cruz also had a throw of 100 mph playing third base in the minors last month, to complete the list of StatCast marvels. He started at third base on Tuesday and shortstop on Wednesday.
