Duke's Recruiting Dominance Per ESPN...

Not sure why a Duke fan wants to go to the trouble of arguing the opposite.

He's the same guy implying Capel, Collins, Wojo, or Dawkins can maintain the Duke program on a comparable level as Coach K. Based on that nugget, the fact that he can't follow your position about Hall is not surprising.

We had our run of great classes and duke is currently having theirs. We are still getting great recruits, they're just having a period of really good success, which is gonna level out soon and they will be getting #2 and #3 classes like we are. Then us or some other school (presumably us) will go on another tear and get multiple top ten recruits.

gotta excuse pisgah101 hes one of the duke posters that swore up and down last year Notre Dame would beat UK because they played in the ACC... then he got mad when they didn't. Id just chill on duke being elite after K leaves bro because every team cools off a bit after a legend leaves. On the other hand what UK has won national titles with FIVE different coaches and probably SIX with Eddie Sutton but u know the story. Its a fact UK will be elite when Cal leaves but the jury is still out on Duke when K leaves...

Giles, Tatum and F.Jackson are 5 stars but dang if UK gets whats expected like Fox, Monk plus Bam, Bolden and or Allen to go along with Gabriel, SKJ and Wynyard. Bringing back Humphries, Matthews, Mulder and possibly Ulis, Lee and Briscoe were loaded for the future and that's what matters most.

Ummm Dukes Class this year isn't even close to being better than ours or even ranked higher, they aren't counting Murray's commitment for whatever reason...hell I don't even know if they added Humphries

KENTUCKY has the consensus top recruiting class this year, only ESPN doesn't have us #1...247 has us 1 and so does rivals

Always been a respectful poster and am old enough to remember 1965 and 1978 so please don't reopen those heartbreaker. Lol

I have mad respect for what Cal has done on the recruiting trail but imo K is not copying him We had been trying to get the same kid y'all got.We just have gotten lucky enough bto land a few of them recently

K used to make kids feel bad about leaving early. He's stopped doing that. That's why he's getting some of the type of kids he'd been missing on.

Never said it was. Only said they are having their little tear, just like UNC did in the late 2000's.

Yep. It wasn't so long ago that he was publically ousting players who left without his blessing. It wasn't about their draft stock or taking care of their families. It was about Coach K, his legacy, and the Duke program.

It's still that way. K just hides it better now.

Let's see how long ESPN can ignore the additions of Murray and/or Humphries late in the recruiting season. I'm gonna venture they're going to downplay their contributions for as long as possible.

Based on how things have gone, Cal has proven to be more successful than K in bringing in talent.

Just because you get #1 and #2 before their senior year of 'high school' doesn't mean they're the best in college or future.
I think it was said during one of the games that neither of them played ball in the US and so were not included in the rankings.

I have watch Giles many times, he is the best big man to come out of NCarolina ever and that says a lot. He will dominate next season, no one in college will be able to guard him, he is better then anyone in college right now, it pains me to say this but its the truth. Why do you think Roy and Cal wanted him so bad. Its sucks he will be at Duke, I am getting myself ready for all the crap I will have to here from Duke fans next season, they will be dominate.

The only player that K ever got on about leaving early was William Avery. He told him that he was not ready. The old chestnut that K cussed out his mom was some bs spread by those pos from UNC. Both William and his mom dispute this.BTW William now acknowledges hr made a mistake by leaving early

[laughing] you're gonna hear a lot of crap, but prolly not because of Giles.

Sounds like Duke got the Michael Jordan of Wilt Chamberlains.

If you're tore up about hearing about Giles after what your university and athletic department is going through then I really do feel for you.

How quickly we forget how dominant a recruit Jabari Parker was: old school, does it the right way, etc.

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/r...4581/jabari-parker-no-1-espn-100-rare-recruit

His only crutch: a team from Georgia named Mercer:

http://www.celticslife.com/2014/03/jabari-parkers-season-and-likely.html

So the next Lebron couldn't get out of the 1st/2nd round of the NCAA, yet here we go again with another superstar that has injury issues.

I'll let let this play itself out when the time comes and not get distraught about losing the best recruit ever to come out of NC.

Duke and Kentucky lost almost everyone — and are Final Four favorites again

Both are preseason top five teams and are again loaded with elite young talent, sporting the top two recruiting classes in the country. Duke returns more experience — Final Four breakout star Grayson Allen and quality forward Amile Jefferson — from its national championship team, but Kentucky features higher quality: Tyler Ulis will be one of the best point guards in the sport. Kentucky’s freshmen are better, too, led by two likely top-10 picks in forward Skal Labissiere and Canadian guard Jamal Murray.

ESPN is simply lazy...who's doing their rankings?

Simply put, ESPN's rankings make no sense. If a foreign player signs to play for a U.S. college, then he should be ranked.

It's no conspiracy. The NCAA created this. NCAA created "Coach K" through a network of media operations. All accomplishments created artificially.

Dukes fan base is as naive as Germans living under Hitler. Try telling Germans living in 1930s Germany that their leader is a false idol. Only rubes believe K achieved his accomplishments fairly.

He absolutely did not.

First of all, lots of his success can be attributed to the death of the man at ncState who was about to become the bigger legend. I'm not sure K could disagree fully.

Second of all, the treatment by the NCAA, no flop rules, and the selection committee putting D2 teams in their regions have aided them as well.

I wouldnt expect a "Duke fan" (if there's such a thing) to understand it. Or at least, they wouldn't want to understand it.

What on earth are you talking about??? Valvano wasn't even coaching when he passed away and K had already won back to back National Titles.

Some of these attacks are just silly.

I have to just say this.

With all respect to my fellow BBN posters, I think some of you get too hung up on who's ranked #1 or #2 in the recruiting rankings. Sure, there are some transcendent talents out there...Giles is probably one of those. But when you boil it all down to gravy, UK is always going to get more than our fair share of 5-star recruits. Other programs will have stretches where they challenge or even surpass us, e.g. Duke right now.

I don't care about them, other than when we play them. We will always be at or very near the top while Cal is here. I hope we pick the right guy after he leaves to try and continue our dominance.

For me, it's more a study of media (ESPN) bias.

ESPN ranks the recruits.

They tout the rankings across their platform.

Many of the hired guns doing the touting are alums of the schools being evaluated.

ESPN has financial incentive to promote some schools more than others.

The situation is fertile ground for bias, and I think any reasonable observer would agree that bias exists.

I'm no fool. I realize that UK benefits from some of these same biases. We move the needle and are very profitable for ESPN as well.

The Dukes and Carolinas are just more entrenched, and better represented. The bias runs much deeper.

Fair enough, and understood.

Paul Biancardi.

Humphries is included, most likely because he played HS ball in the US. Why ESPN doesn't rank Canadian players who are being recruited by US colleges is beyond me.

Looking at the players 247 expects UK and Duke to get, the classes are expected to look like this:

UK
Fox (#2)
Monk (#5)
Killeya-Jones (#16)
Gabriel (#17)
Allen (#28)

Duke
Giles (#3)
Jackson (#10)
Tatum (#11)
Bolden (#34)
DeLaurier (#47)

If it plays out like this I think UK getting two top 5 guys would put us over the top. I still think there is a chance Cal could convince Simmons to come and play as the first guard off the bench playing either guard spot or even some at the three.

When did Tatum drop to # 11? I just read an article literally stating just what you did in regards to two top 5 players except it was Giles and Tatum that were referenced as the two top 5 players.

S&C Your response was inside the quote of my post so I couldn't properly quote your post to respond. Where am I from? is this the first in a series of pointless internet litmus test questions to determine whether or not I have properly earned my fan card? Winston-Salem, North Carolina if you must know.

I don't think he dropped. I don't think 247 has ever had him as a top 10 player. Rivals and Scout both have him top 5. Either way it is not a foregone conclusion that Duke will have the top class in 2016. I expect Giles to drop in the rankings some after the knee injury.

247 is an outlier as far as Tatum is concerned, but they have him 11th. Without looking it up, I don't think anybody else has him top 2 except for ESPN.

You can't compare a 13 year head coaching career to K's LOL it don't work like that

Wait.... I've taken 30+ years of hater talk. I think I can break this down. I'm a little rusty but I believe he said...

"No...you...can't use facts... that are legit...and make my point look mute"

I believe in the hater community this is what they call obscurantism. It's used in the sports kingdom to deny fact in fear of losing an argument, hindering one from projecting his own fallacies, or to avoid coming to grips with factual misconceptions.

Yeah. If they have those guys back to go with the class coming in they will probably be the favorite for the title if Giles gets back to 100%.

I hate it but you are right, hopefully someone beats them. I live in Greensboro everyone now is on the Duke bandwagon, some of my Carolina friends now like Duke.
