As much as it pisses me off, the YUM center deal was made up by the city and or state, so that UofL didn't put the arena on campus. Jurich just agreed to it. I dont fault him for that .

The sad part for UL fans, this year will be the last chance to be even competitive for at least 5-6 years and that is being conservative. They are in a world of hurt for a long time. The UL program as we have known it since 70's is all but done. They will be less talented than Bellarmine next few years, I would say N. Ky. Univ. will be as good. Awful years for UL.

I was right, 5 faculty or administrators have been charged with embezzling or other financial mismanagement.

That list also doesn't include the crimes and deaths associated with the football program or all the thugs recruited by Bobby Petrino, or the Wakey-leaks deal.

This is just not how a real university operates folks.

I'm actually going to UofLOL's December commencement this Friday at the Yum. My great-niece is graduating. Have another one there now and her younger brother just got accepted for next year. I feel badly for all of them, their school is a national laughingstock.

It's funny to think about how they puffed their chests out when the "deal" that brought them to the ACC went down. The beatings they will take in conference are going to be frequent and ugly.

Lord have mercy. This could be the good start of a reality TV show four U6 and there is enough material to have a show that will last 10 years or more. You can't make this stuff up. What a list. You should be proud of yourself Louisville Cards.

Don't remember the exact year, but Jointa Woodward (sp?) is caught with a ton of pot in his room while playing for Johnelle Smith.

ESPN will do a 30 for 30 on the Mid-Level Commuter School Near The Ohio River one day, and it will consist of five, two hour episodes.

Anyone else old enough to remember when their biggest scandal was graduation rates? Those were the days...

Crum responds
  • Dec 24, 1990
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - University of Louisville Coach Denny Crum on Sunday disputed a network television program's contention that his basketball program was nothing more than a farm club for professional basketball.

The CBS news program "60 Minutes" devoted most of its first 20-minute segment Sunday night on the promise and failure of collegiate basketball to Louisville's nationally-known program.

It painted a picture of an athletic program more concerned with wins and producing NBA draft choices than ensuring an education for its athletes. In particular, the piece, reported by correspondent Morley Safer, pointed to low graduation rates among Louisville's basketball players.

Crum, however, said it was unfair to gauge his program's academic success on the five years that athletes have to get their diplomas.
"You cannot judge graduation rates, particularly at an urban university, on a five-year period," Crum said at a news conference after the airing of the program.

Crum listed the players in his program who had come back to either complete or work on their degrees. Among them were current NBA players Rodney McCray, Billy Thompson and Derek Smith.

Moreover, Crum said many players come to college with the career goal of becoming a professional basketball player.

"There's nothing wrong with wanting to be a professional basketball player," he said.

Louisville Gets One-Year Ban From Postseason Play
September 23, 1998| From Staff and Wire Reports

The NCAA banned the Louisville men's basketball team from postseason play for a year Tuesday and put the school on three years' probation because of rule violations.

The two violations in the men's basketball and seven in women's volleyball programs involved extra benefits, recruiting, financial aid, institutional control and ethical conduct.

The Division I Committee on Infractions handed down other penalties as well, among them a reduction of scholarships in both sports.

The basketball program's postseason ban also will include this season's Conference USA tournament.

"We had nearly 100% agreement with the NCAA enforcement staff on all facts of the case," said John Shumaker, university president. "The NCAA's response has been tough but the sanctions are fair and I
respect their conclusions."

The allegations came to light early last year and, after an investigation that produced hundreds of pages of testimony, the NCAA in April issued a formal letter of inquiry into both programs.

The university acknowledged seven of the volleyball infractions involving recruiting violations and rules prohibiting extra benefits for athletes or their families. It disagreed with the two other allegations, that it did not sufficiently educate volleyball Coach Leonid Yelin about NCAA rules and that then-assistant basketball coach Scooter McCray obtained a discounted hotel rate for the father of forward Nate Johnson.

Louisville was put on probation for two years in 1996 after an investigation unearthed questions about former basketball player Samaki Walker's use of two cars in 1995.

Because the new violation involving the basketball program occurred within five years of the starting date of the previous penalties, the committee applied its repeat-violator provisions to the case.

"Certainly, I'm deeply disappointed and saddened by the decision," Coach Denny Crum said in a statement. "Regardless of the outcome of the decision, I am ultimately responsible for our basketball program and I feel bad that it has had such a negative effect on our program and this university."

Paul Miles on WLAP just reported that UL officials are in Atlanta this week appealing the NCAA decision. Maybe we'll hear something soon.
