Do you think Cal has a plan for a big man?

The staff pushed hard for Dickinson who is an equal-to or greater-than option to Oscar at the 5. The only way to get Dickinson was to cut ties with Oscar, which Calipari won't do.

I agree that the options in the portal for the 5 spot are few. But, there are some good "perimeter 5s" and hedge players available. Nelson and Bandaogo are the first two that come to mind. Maybe Kobe Brown comes back to college and transfers out of Columbia. UGO is a back up option only. I can't imagine the staff doesn't know this.

It sounds like they wouldn’t have gotten Dickinson either way , as he was looking for NIL guarantees , and at certain amounts even . He called UK ‘risky ‘ with NIL…even tho Oscar made more last yr than he will this yr, most likely . UK collective is going to have some mouths to feed next yr with this class , also . We just aren’t the spot for someone with that mindset right now

Offers they‘ve made and contact they’ve had with big men in the portal suggests they understand they need help and depth there , I’d say . It isn’t as easy as contacting , offering and reeling them in . NIL and the prospect of Oscar possibly returning makes things even harder filling that spot
I've seen Cal bring Hunter Dickinson in for a weekend visit, then tell him he won't talk to him about NIL deals, knowing KU had already made NIL promises to the kid.
That doesn't seem like Cal was very motivated to get Hunter, to me.
Who else did he go after? He reached out

Well that's false, Dickinson wanted guarantees but we would only show what others have made and that NIL would come once he's here. No one was refusing to talk NIL.

I think that’s UK policy on anyone ..,,they just aren’t guaranteeing ‘4 million ‘ or any set number to any player , and they aren’t alone …tho some schools are . In other words , if a guy gets $1.5 in outside deals from companies from name and likeness deals while here , UK would be on the hook for $2.5 to make it whole for hIm . It’s risky , and hard to sustain …especially long-term , when word gets out you’re doing it . Florida had a QB recruit walk after signing because they couldn’t meet a demand

I'm sure there's a plan, but I'm starting to believe the plan is rolling with Ugo as our starting 5. That's not good, but why should Cal care? If we have another 12 loss season and first weekend loss, he's fine, as long as a few guys get drafted. He knows he won't be terminated, so none of this stuff matters.
that is why he returned........ccc promised him to starting spot

Imagine if Dickinson was ‘guaranteed’ $5 M , and turned out to be an ass that companies shied from in marketing their product …and he only gets $1M , or so , in outside deals . Pretty tough spot to be in if you’re the school

I have no idea how the NIL stuff works, but it seems like other schools are doing something different than UK
IU just landed a couple of big time guys, so they are doing something different than UK

either oscar returns or ugonna gets more playing time.... thats what i believe right now.

ACC big man.

thats all i got and the picture shows him sitting on the bench.

i was hoping theres a pic of him dunking over another player.

wait, this guy is in the transfer portal???

Im no coach, but he's even already been looked at by the NBA...already.

I have a feeling Miranda is our top priority if Tshiebwe stays in the draft. Of course that also depends on whether Miranda stays in or not.

Cal dreams of winning it all with five Freshmen starters:

G Dillingham
G Wagner
G Edwards
F Bradshaw
F Miranda

That looks like a Cal team. Long, athletic frontcourt, quick, athletic backcourt.

Cals only plan is what he’s having at Dunkin in the morning and to remember to set the dvr for Little House.

I remember when Miranda visited UK.From what I heard he loved it but was never offered. He's very close with Antigua.

A typical Cal team has a back to the basket Center, so he can run his post offense. Is Miranda a post up big? He doesn't look like it.

If Cal doesn't get Oscar back, he's going to play Ugo at the 5 and make him play with his back to the basket.

Anybody know if this guy is any good or not
Geez...I hope he's not another Olivia Sarr type finesse big who has his ass handed to him regularly down low...

It’s weird, Cal’s best team (2012) had AD at the 5. He wasn’t exactly what I would call a beast in the paint offensively. I don’t remember him posting up every possession and I don’t remember us feeding the post every possession.

Cal at that time was all about spacing and motion. What changed? Why did he start forcing guys like Labissiere and Sarr to try to be true post players?

I don’t know if Miranda and/or Onyenso can fill that role or not.

But with Bradshaw seeming to be adamant about playing the 4 (based on the rumors), and the fact that Onyenso has a played less than 7 minutes a game in 16 games in his career, then it stands to reason there will be another 5 man. Onyenso isn’t playing 40 minutes a game.

I really hope we get someone who will push Onyenso to the bench. Miranda is at least getting some looks from the NBA, even though he didn’t even play this season, so chances are he is probably better than Onyenso, or at least good enough to split time with him.

Cal still ran a post up offense at times in 2012, but I think AD, TJ and MKG were so good at the face up and lob game, that Cal just let it go.

I still think the 2012 team is behind his 2015 and 2010 teams, both of which had elite post games/players, but they had enough outside shooting and 2 dominant defensive giants to get the job done.

But yeah, why he tried to turn Skal into a post player, is beyond me. He did the same thing to Jackson in 2021. Jackson was good enough to make it work, but he was not a post player.

i think next season’s team, assuming Tshiebwe leaves, could be pretty good playing similarly to the 2012 team. I think Bradshaw could be a poor man’s AD if he was willing to play the 5 the way AD played the 5. We need a 4 man to play the Jones role, though. If only Livingston would come back and play the 4. I know, it ain’t happening, but that would be a good fit, IMHO.

Sadly Aaron is going to play the 4.It's all Cal has talked about in interviews.Likely to keep him away from USC.

I don't trust Cal to do it. Something is off with him, he is going to do it his way, win or lose and I just don't believe for a second he will play that way. Heck, I don't think he will even try to put Bradshaw at the 5, it feels to me like he was promised the 4.

I do think Keshad Johnson could play the MKG role though.

Yes, which is why I figure Cal goes hard after a big man if Tshiebwe stays in the draft.

Not a ton of options out there, really.

If he could talk Miranda into playing a year of college ball, it could really help him and might be our best option.

Miranda has some talent. Most of his problems seem to be between the ears.

It's hard to understand how it's this late and he seems to have no backup plans to Oscar leaving.Appears it was Hunter,Oscar or nothing.

I think he was supposed to be in the upcoming class but went to NC State in the middle of the season and didn't play.He has talent but is known as a bit of a headcase.Friends and working out lately with Ugo.
why this guy instead of the guy from Utah Valley?
It makes no sense. This guy isn't built like a center while the guy form Utah Valley looks like he would be
hard to push around

UK and GTown are considered the leaders for Miranda, if he stays in college. I feel like Miranda is our backup plan for Tshiebwe, but I have been wrong before.
