Didn't realize Petrino was this terrible!

I've seen this before, but it never gets old. [laughing] They should have also mentioned the numerous texts and allegedly explicit photos he exchanged with a woman in Little Rock. Bobby Neckbrace is a pathologically lying, ethically challenged sack of dung, and you'd have to really question the intelligence of anyone who would let their son be mentored by him.

I agree 100% .. i mean leaving a squad and coach and not even telling them until basically after they were hired or almost hired? WOW. lots of things in life don't change and that is certainly one characteristic that doesn't change. that's evil DNA from the start!

Proud to say that when some of our posters wanted to hire him I was adament in my opposition, even while acknowledging he "might" be the best OC around.

Same here. Besides all of his other antics, what he did at Arkansas was was beyond reprehensible. A coworker of mine at the time who was a University Six grad said it was "embarrassing" that Turtleneck hired him back without hesitation after the Arkansas debacle and the dumpster fire he left University Six with with the first time. When you look at what he did at Arkansas, it pretty much covers the worst of everything that Bobby Neckbrace is.

* Started up a relationship with the fiance of a fellow athletic department employee.

* Hired her into a cushy job with the athletic department over more qualified people so he could continue to bang her right under her future husband's nose.

* Allegedly sent texts and inappropriate photos to a woman in Little Rock who was a calendar model or something of the sort.

* Took his mistress on a motorcycle ride and allegedly wrecked.

* Tried to persuade a member of the Arkansas Highway Patrol to lie about his mistress being involved in the accident.

* Lied to his boss about the accident.

* Lied to his team about the accident.

* Lied to his family about the accident.

* Lied to the media about the accident.

* Lied to the fans about the accident.

* Lied to all of these people even when he knew that the truth was coming out soon.

I think ole Bobby is about as unethical as it can get, but the blonde was every bit as guilty here and Bobby was. I know all you young guys have hotter GFs, but for a guy 50+ having a mid 20's good looking blonde athlete make a play for you would be quite the ego boost. Make no mistake she knew exactly what she was doing, and she had no problems doing what it took to get what she wanted. Yes Bobby lied to everyone he talked to, that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, but he is no more trashier than she was in this particular case. Yes he should have been fired for all the lying, but the affair should have been between him and his wife. But in the end, both came out ok, he is making huge bucks at Louisville and last I heard she had some position in athletic department at South Carolina

Agree Grump, she knew exactly what she was doing to further her career. I think that's the case in most of these "me to" cases that happened years ago.

The issue isn't that Bobby Neckbrace had an affair. If he had simply been banging the waitress down at the local diner, it wouldn't have been an issue for anyone except his family. The issue(s), of course, is that Bobby Neckbrace hired his mistress into a cushy job where he could continue to bang her right under her future husbands nose, and then when he was caught, lied through his teeth to everyone trying to get out of it, even though he knew he was going to be caught. Ego boost is one thing, but Bobby Neckbrace must have been in the midst of a mind numbing midlife crisis, as he also had the sexting deal with the woman in Little Rock. As I've said before, Bobby Neckbrace is a pathologically lying, ethically challenged sack of dung. He's proved it repeatedly over his career.

It sometimes makes me wish I had tits

I lobbied for him. I wanted to win then I want to win now.

But I like Stoops as man and hope he kicks down that door that we've been knocking o the past few years. I keep reminding myself how long it took Spurrier at South Carolina to get rolling, same with Mullen at Mississippi State.

Whatever he is ... he's consistent... In the world of coaches some of the best are a-holes, but they're a-holes every day... So you know what your getting if you hire, play for them...

What I remember most about Petrino was his passion for running up a score. Not just 36 to 7, but 70 to nothing with the starters in whenever he could.
I am looking forward to see what coach Saban and the Alabama defense....fully healthy at the first game....have in consideration for the Louisville Cardinals.

the "affair" was also between Petrino and the State of Arkansas who was paying the guys mistress at his bequest! It's amazing to me that he escaped a possible jail sentence.

Being an asshole is one thing.....I've worked for, and with several guys that I considered to be assholes, but I had a great deal of respect for them because they were ethically sound.....being a pathologically lying, ethically challenged asshole like Bobby Neckbrace is an entirely different deal. At every stop he's ever coached at with the exception of WKU (where he wasn't there long enough to even scope out the volleyball team), Bobby Neckbrace has performed the equivalent of taking a massive dump into a paper bag, putting it on the porch of his boss, setting it on fire, ringing the doorbell and running away. He did that to University Six the first go round, and he'll eventually do it again.

...

I really can't decide which is more breathtaking, the fact you actually wanted that piece of trash to head our football program or that you unashamedly admit to that after the fact.

They left out the part about him taking everybody else's POS castoffs. Willie Williams arrested 11 times and still gets a scholarship. Devonte Fields hits a girl and threatens her with a gun and still gets a scholarship. Michael Dyer, Josh Harvey Clemons. It's never ending.

He should have been, but regardless of that she knew she wanted a job in college athletics, knew Bobby was an opportunity and she did what she could to make it happen. She ain't the first female to use something besides her resume to get a job and Bobby ain't the first to looik at qualifications other than a resume. I just don't think he is responsible for the entire affair. The legal issues of hiring her is another story.

Jessica wasn't a sweet, innocent thing, but Bobby Neckbrace was fifty-damn-years old. Ego boost? Sure.....but at that age, you should have enough common sense to understand that a relationship like that isn't going to be sustainable and that you sure as Hell can't give her a job and expect to not get caught. Bobby Neckbrace is not only a pathological liar and ethically challenged, but he's as dumb as a box of rocks as well.

Well as someone well past that age, of course he knew and he didn't care. Hell multiple if not most presidents of the United States have been guilty of the same thing. Giving her the job and then lying about the course of events is what got him fired. The buck didn't stop with Petrino, was the AD so naive that he also broke state laws and went around procedures, at Petrino's request to not know something was amiss before the motorcycle incident, whatever that was? They were all in the same athletic building, of course he knew something and to keep Bobby happy he went with it, then it become CYA time.

I am not saying Petrino is a swell guy, I think he is one of the slimier people in college athletics, just he isn't the one totally responsible for what happened at Arkansas.

I'm well past that age too. Bobby Neckbrace has no excuses for what he did. None....he brought that shit on himself. How big of a dummy to you have to be to risk a multi million dollar a year job over a piece of ass?

Petrino has had a history of leaving bosses with egg on their faces. Jurich structured Petrinos contract so that fifty percent of his buyout was tied to Jurich just so Petrino would know who he was beholden to. He is likely on the blackball list for ANY NFL slot, and despite desperate fans across the conference, I seriously doubt any SEC team not named Auburn would risk him.
I believe he's right where he's going to stay.
More power to em.

Funny story about that

I'm from Atlanta and a big Falcons fan

Season after petrino bailed... Falcons were something like 4-0 when Arkansas rolled into the commonwealth

After an epic come from behind victory I saw petrino sitting in the front seat of the team bus right outside commonwealth ..

..with a beer in hand, I walk on the bus, stand a foot from neck race and proceed to thank him for leaving like a bitch in the middle of the night. Atlanta is 4 and 0 and we would be 0-4 if you hadn't done that..

A state trooper escorted me off....and gave me a fist bump.

I am not saying he was right, if not for the motorcycle incident no one would have ever known, but how bad did it actually work out for him? He got a new job making more and if things fall apart for him at Louisville another desperate team will hire him with a raise. Auburn was set to bring him in but Gus beat UGA and Bama, this year, they tried to hire Kendall Briles for OC and bring Art in as support staff but it was shot down from the capital, probably happened if it were Bama. Bobby isn't the only sleazeball in college athletics, how long before Rich Rod gets a new gig? May take him a couple of years because the luster of his wvu days are fading with time.

I'm simply owning up to what I said in the past. I think what's so shocking to you is that someone would just be forthright and honest, instead of doing what the vast majority do which is either sweep their past comments under the rug or flat out deny they ever said something on here; until they piss the wrong person off enough to go back and dig up their comments.[laughing]

I wasn't out in the streets with signs and banners, I merely made some off hand comments at the time, and especially after Petrino whipped us at WKU. I was a much more vocal and staunch supporter of hiring Mike Leach. I would still welcome him today. I was merely more than willing to overlook the bad to get the good. MOST people would be too if the ends justified the means despite what many of y'all purport to be about on here and that's the truth.

The vast majority of y'all castigating anyone who says that are the same people who hemmed and hawed about John Calipari until he became our guy and we started winning big. And it's the exact same thing the Louisville fans did with Pitino before they hired him. Admittedly with the benefit of hindsight that's a poorer example, but at the time not much different.

Now this is the part where you quote me, engage in more extreme message board hyperbole, completely misrepresent what I just said like I'm some humongous Petrino fanbot regardless of the fact that I've simply said I supported hiring him then, that really I was staunch Leach guy at the time, and that now with the passage of time I'm happy with Stoops but ready for us to begin taking the next steps.

And not knocking Stoops but they were also very good coaches.
Precisely. We have no idea what his ceiling is. But when you take a known quantity like Spurrier at a school with more football resources and in state recruits/better ties to Georgia/Florida....people need to think long and hard about that before clamoring to throw the baby out with the bath water.

One thing that Stoops can't keep doing at this juncture in his tenure is not learn from his mistakes. That needs to be fixed ASAP. He's admitted it, and I believe he will. Very excited about what this team might do this season. Glass half full this season!

This is the point I was trying to make. Of his transgressions.....how much do any of them really matter? They don't once people take off their fan hats and look objectively at results. Again, I'm not some Petrino fan boy, but at this point someone needs to play devil's advocate in here so what the hell....I enjoy a good argument.

Any UK fan who says they'd be upset today if we had hired BP and he was going 8-4, 9-3, 10-2 in the SEC is full of crap. None of us would be.

On its face....Bobby isn't a good person. Not notifying the Falcons players was low. BUT....ultimately so what. The real worst thing he did was nail a hot coed. And man, DO I LOVE that it gives us free ammo to toss at Louisville. But do any of us REALLY care? He went 5-7, then 8-5, 10-3 and 11-2 at Arkansas...when the SEC West was and still is the better division. They fired him because they had to, and even then it was because he gave her that job. Freeze got canned at Ole Miss over cheating on his wife as a scapegoat. Arkansas would have overlooked the affair in a heartbeat if they could have.

I'm sorry, but anyone who sits here today and says objectively that they'd be pissed off having Petrino with those results in the SEC is full of crap. They're the same holier than thou fans who didn't want Calipari after Tubby and then were more than happy to turncoat after Gillispie.

But yes, I'm glad we have Stoops because he feels like "our guy" and I'm not convinced we've seen his ceiling.

I'm not defending the guy... Unless any of us can't read we've seen it all in print... I won't argue that he is worthy of all the negative comments... But he is what he is and that is a .700+ career winning coach who has gone from one multi million job to another, in spite of his personal downside... I don't know the man, only read the results of his bad decisions... But if UofL, 2nd time around, has gotten an "improved" BP then who's to say it was a bad hire?... So far he's kept his name out of the news and that is saying something with all that's gone on at Louisville..... But the guy can coach, and as long as he's getting it done, there will be a job out there for him... in football... not the Ministry....

He probably thought he was untouchable, and coming off of an 11-2 season he damn near was. Jeff Long tried to get him to stay by making him a deal that included several punishments but he wouldn't take it.

I'm not sure he could have sustained his success anyway. He really came into the perfect storm with Mallett transferring in and the best WR class in Arkansas high school history (3 guys drafted from the same high school).

I think he probably would have survived hiring her, they could have covered that up fairly easy, it was the lying that got him fired at Arkansas. I don't know all the details of Rich Rod getting canned, but there was a woman involved. Hugh Freeze did his share of lying, I think he had a show cause lable put on him for 2 years as a head coach, OM made it seem like the calls to escorts, but they really didn't have a choice. Lane Kiffin has been chasing coeds since he started coaching, he wasn't fired for chasing coeds at USC, he was fired for not winning enough. The of college coaches who have made that mistake isn't short, and not sure why anyone would think it would be. Men who are leaders of big coorporations, are guilty, and look in Washington, it's undefeated.

As far as UK, I honestly think the biggest key to a successful season and success going forward is for the coaching staff to eliminate mistakes once they happen, rather than them rotating again, and maybe again.
Getting that fixed or cleaned up will be a big stride forward.
You simply cannot ask players to get over a bad play or call when the head coach is in full meltdown three or four plays or even a series later.

The ironic thing is that most people in this thread probably voted for a guy who makes this stuff look like cotton candy.

Some of those guys were not under Petrino.

Jurich, however is the one common denominator for every guy you named.

Transfer U has been the perfect place for him lately, with all that they have going on much easier to overlook what kind of guy he is.

I think it's funny how many people in this thread sit on their "high horse". We all have demons, just most of us aren't in such a spotlight.

Most men are dogs and nature intended it to be that way. Most on this thread are men; get over it.

He should have been hired, at the time.

Hard to believe anyone who follows football hasn’t known these things. All of this has been well covered in the media. This is why many UK football fans held their noses and strenuously objected when some of our low-information fans actually called for Petrino to be hired by UK, a dumb idea that stunk from the very beginning.
