Derrick Thornton

Re: Derryck Thornton

Sounds like it's UK vs. Duke. The Blue Devil are also in pretty good with Dennis Smith, too.

I agree. UK-Duke war.

Re: Derryck Thornton

Yeah. Unless Ulis leaves after his second year (unlikely, but you never know how things pan out until they actually do), or Briscoe leaves after his freshman year (I don't know too much about him one way or the other so I won't even guess), I think UK will be pretty set at PG. Thornton looks like a great PG prospect, though.

Re: Derryck Thornton

I want Newman. He could come in and be a pg/sg here. Dynamic scorer!

They're not in the same class. If we get Newman he'll be gone by the time Thornton would be on campus.

Re: Derryck Thornton

I think if Thornton reclassifies he goes to Duke, but if he stays in the 2016 class, I think he choses UK.

Copied and pasted the story ( did not notice that.. thanks) and was interested in the story itself.

Re: Derryck Thornton

I saw him at last year's HoopHall Classic (I'm going again this year) and this is what I wrote:
Derryck Thornton, Jr. - Findlay College Prep [/B](Henderson, NV) - Jan. 20; Already has 10 offers, including Arizona, USC, UCLA, UNLV, and Vanderbilt; Beat Wesleyan Christian School (High Point, NC) 73-43; 6"-2"; 165 lbs; #36 ranked player 2016 class; PG - 1-9 FG; 0-2 3-Ptr; 4-6 FT; 6 Pts; 6 Reb; 1 PF; 10 A; 3 TO; 1 Blk; 1 Stl; in 30 minutes. As only a sophomore and starting PG on this basketball powerhouse says something. For this game he looked like a Soph too often. Little shaky and erratic at times. Shoots too much and too early in the shot clock at times, but all Findlay needs him to do is play the point (10 assists!). I suppose his shooting was off today (1-9) and Coach Jerome Williams wouldn't be playing him if he always shoots like this. Does a good job pushing the ball. As he matures and learns the point, and he will if he stays at Findlay, he will make a fine PG for someone.

Now this is true but have heard nothing about him reclassify.
Pitino asked him to and the family said he probably wouldn't do it but that they would consider it.

Going to be really interesting to see what happens with the Derryck Thornton / Dennis Smith Jr. situation. Duke supposedly leads for both but I doubt that both would go there.

A lot of question marks as to whether or a not UK is interested in Smith, Jr. We apparently haven't offered him, but my theory is UK is holding back/stepping lightly because of the relationship between Smith and John Wall. I think once UK starts officially recruiting him, that relationship would have to end unless they can prove some kind of pre-existing relationship.

I don't see the problem with this. What am I missing?

I think were not going after Smith is more because he is staying in state, why waste time with a kid your not going to get...
