I posted this very sentiment regarding our recruitment of Reed Sheppard. We need guys around the program who know what it means to put on the jersey. UK isn't just a stop along the way.

Forget convicted. He was never even charged with anything. He was named by a felon looking to cut a deal.
But as others have said, other than being a former UK player, what exactly qualifies him to be an assistant?

He’s young, played in the nba, and is a former player who loves the university. I say give him a shot. It’s not like we’re giving him the head job and Cals current assistants sure as hell aren’t qualified. Lucas being exempt, he hasn’t had enough time to prove if he’s qualified or not.
Speaking of Lucas what were his qualifications before becoming an assistant at Texas?
Ran into him a couple of times here in Louisville and he is a really nice guy. I would love to see him on the staff. He has been there and done that. Kind of like when we had Strickland. You need a guy like that who was successful in the league with so many coming to UK with those exact hopes. As far as experience he couldn't be any worse than Barbee with experience. I really hope somehow this happens but I would imagine it is a long shot.

Sadly, Cal doesn’t care about UK's accomplishments, history or previous players. I've never heard him talk bout those things. It’s all about getting kids to the draft. He proves this every year.
I seem to think I remember what you’re talking about. There was some kind of shady business going on with him. I can’t remember what it was. It doesn’t matter, Cal would never hire him. He has never coached at UMass or played at UMass.

If Cal wants to save some face with this fan base, DA should be on the bench in some capacity tonight or this weekend. Make up a title for him and bring him on. Make staff adjustments at year end and keep him.
The NOW statement is about helping the kids on this team IMO. I listen to Goose a lot on the pregame and you can hear it in his voice how he wants the team and the kids to succeed because they are all part of the same "family". DA and Goose and I'm sure other former players see the struggles and what these kids are going through and want to be there for them.

Look at Duke and uNC, their staffs are loaded with younger guys that played for those schools. More duke than uNC, but they both do it and it works.
You need a guy that can relate to the players. Kenny Payne did a nice job, but he’s not here any longer and Joel Justice isn’t the answer. Neither is Barbee, but that's stating the obvious.

Reading between the lines, I think he’s probably made a couple of calls and then turned away so this is his last ditch effort to try to get in AND make a a difference.
But Cal has shown he hates it when OTHERS use social media.
I want Cal here, but he has to change a little is so many ways. He is slipping further away from the fans each day.
please, let next season be his turning point back into the Cal UK hired (hope this year was/is epiphany for him)

I had heard rumors about DA being involved in some sketchy stuff for years. That he was really high up in a drug pushing hierarchy. But I’ve just...it’s just so hard to believe. He’s never had any issues with anyone publicly. But the first people that told me were actual feds that spent time in Lexington for a few years. And this was years ago. Like early 2000’s. I was loading trucks at UPS and these dudes were there to inspect suspicious packages as they were coming in and out of the trucks. Like actual DEA.
My thinking is just...okay why isn’t he behind bars. I never asked though. Why would they lie?
Then nearly a decade later the story pops up about someone fingering him during a confession.

I do not know and I would bet , you do not know. I can tell that you do not care for anyone on this staff, especially Cal. I believe you say a lot on here simply based on your emotions. Clear, balanced thought is not part of the process, Derek Anderson for instance. You have no idea if he would be helpful or a disaster. Simply hire him, he played here, no interview needed, no background info needed, fire Barbee, fire Justus, fire Cal. It is silly , silly shit.

I base my posts off info. A credible UK insider who posts on this site has said Justus kisses ass and doesn’t have a killer instinct to close out the deal on recruits, he also leaks stuff to the media so that’s why you don’t see an outcry for his job. Barbee is dead weight, the insider has also said this as well. Cal has been trending downward for 5 years now. If I thought he could change I’d love to keep him around but, (and here comes the evidence part) based on his radio show....he’s not. So I want him gone.

Your insider may be right. I have a little trouble thinking he, or she, knows more about the situation than those that work in the athletic department but, he may. If Barbee and Justus are truly as bad as you and your insider say, I believe Cal will take care of it after this season. After this disaster of a season Cal must do a self evaluation and evaluation of everything and everyone in recruiting and coaching. I also have trouble thinking your insider is on board with just handing D. Anderson a job as assistant coach. I believe that part is all yours. You have your opinions just like I do so, here we are. Will someone on the staff get let go at the end of the season? Yes. Will he be replaced by a guy lobbying for a job on Twitter? No
He may or may not be a great fit but going about using Twitter to get a job and trying to force the discussion is a bad way to start out a conversation with Cal.
All legit questions. But the mere existence of such questions makes it an uphill climb for him, regardless of truth. I think he might have a chance if he had some proven experience at another college but with out that, too much risk for UK imo
Do something new Cal, just make him a CBB offensive coordinator. You teach defense and let him teach offense. Let him call the offensive sets, and you give him suggestions based on what you are seeing but give him the reins. Go look at your total offensive numbers for your career and see that you need help.
I don't know about Justus or Barbee, they seem like good assistants, but you probably are right about Calipari.
