I would love to see DA teaching these guys how to go from defense to offense in two seconds. The other team has the ball and two seconds later you're scoring. I really miss that. Even under Tubby that existed some.

That's the exact thought I had, when I saw the tweet. DA knows basketball, he's charismatic, and relates well to kids.

my brother interviewed him at one point after a shoot around in rupp in ‘95 and described how at one point, sitting court side talking, da broke from responding, stared up into the rafters and said “god, i love this game” out of nowhere. that’s the da i remember (and he wasn’t showing off, they were mostly alone in a corner and my bro was just a com major from asbury, not even a reporter). he knows what it takes and that alone is worth something.

Not sure why he’s lobbying through the media but at the same time I just can’t figure out exactly what Barbee adds to the staff. DA is still young enough to relate to the kids playing now and might bring some energy the staff desperately needs.
Cal should at least have a conversation with him to see what he can bring to the table.

Here is Cal's chance to hire a former Kentucky player that played for Pitino but wants to help the cats and Cal. This would be a good hire all the way around for the program, it's time a former cats was on the staff anyway.
Bringing in a highly popular former player sounds great but has he coached at any level? Does DA have a background that would help us in recruiting? For those that are now saying Barnhart has no backbone etc for not making Cal hire him, what exactly would DA bring to the staff? Surely there is a reason other than he played here.

I don't know what kind of coach he would be but he is one of the best players to ever wear the Kentucky uniform. He's from Kentucky, won a title at UK and had a really good NBA career. Could probably do a lot worse as far as an assistant goes.
Give me a staff of Pope, DA, and Ford with Nate Oats or Chris Beard at the helm...and let's roll.
Cals not going hire anybody that can actually coach. Why would Cal hire someone that's a better coach than he is, they might take his job.

i thought that at first. i’d guess it’s more a timing thing like “daddies here and he’s going to help make it better”. whatever the intent or feeling it’s definitely very opportunistic and that can be taken many ways.
It is weird to me. I sure liked Derek Anderson but if all we are looking for in an assistant coach is being a former UK player, there are other former players that should be considered. Maybe one that doesnt go on face book to get attention but, instead pursues a meaningful conversation with the ones that make the decision.
He was accused by someone looking to cut again, and nothing ever came of it. Not charged. Nothing. So guys are eliminated from a potential coaching position based on an accusation, not even being charged?
DA = Warrior, bring him in and get rid of some of these dead weights bringing the program down, he's a guy that will get out and make shit happen.

So UK wasn’t too good to hire a drunk. Wasn’t too good to hire a guy whose previous 2 schools went under probation under his watch. But UK is too good to hire a former Wildcat great because he was charged for a crime that he was never convicted of.
