D-League

I used to love listening to Mike Shannon. Mike was associated with the Cardinals either as a player or announcer for 64 years. He is the only person in Missouri high school ball history to win state player of the year in both basketball and football in the same year, yet he played MLB. He was especially entertaining after he had a few beers. He knew everybody so he had loads of stories. He was full of Yogi Berra type stories.

When I sat down and opened up my computer it popped up a picture of me from back in the day (it does that sometimes).

This picture is around October 1976 Ft. Sill OK 321st FA OSUT (One Station Unit Training) same unit for both Basic and AIT. Those were the guys I used to hang out with. The guy just above me (Aponte) was the only person to ever beat me in the 2-mile run during the PT test my whole career in the Army. Happened only once. I never let it happen again.

Talk about running for your life. A buddy of mine and I used to hit the pavions down on the waterfront in Izmir Turkey. A pavion was a night club where girls hustled guys (a lot of the guys were lonely gi's) for drinks. We were walking back to the bus stop. If we missed the bus, it was two hours till the next one. We are walking along and I noticed my buddy wasn't there. I looked around and he is a half block behind and urinating on a car window. Next thing I know, there are twenty or more highly irritated Turks chasing us. I was in great shape, so I easily stayed way ahead of the group. My buddy was strong as horse, but not a runner. I got to the bus stop just as the driver was pulling away and got him to stop and wait on my buddy. I can still picture him rushing to the back of the bus and giving the crowd a one finger salute as they faded into the background.

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving from Burbach, Germany. Currently 40°F with a 15 MPH wind from NE. Severe storm warning in effect with wind speeds reaching 50 MPH in places.

SIL prepared some kick-ass venison roast yesterday. I destroyed it. Too good.

Thanksgiving dinner tonight at Hotel Bechtel here in Burbach. Expecting 9 guests.

Y'all behave.

Was in the Frankfurt train station one late afternoon with another soldier (he was an instructor and training me in ishinryu karate in those days) and we were just coming back from a small town we were checking out when he was approached by a big German who we found out was gay and was hitting on him. After some time trying to get rid of the guy (who was drunk by the way and harassing him) he just popped him and knocked him down. A couple of German police (Politzei) saw what happened and came after us. Both of us hit the bricks and got out of there running our asses off heading back to Gutleut Kaserne (our unit) which was a few blocks away from the train station. We knew how rough the Polizei could be and did not want to be caught by those guys.

I had seen once before how they (the Politzei) had taken out a soldier who was drunk and causing trouble and it was not pretty. Those guys don't play.

Yeah. Several of us were walking around near a park in a nicer part of Izmir. when we came near a group starting a protest of some kind. From a bit away we watched as the riot police drove up in vans. They immediately started knocking heads with billy clubs. The protestors that could started running as hard as they could go.

Good morning all,

May God guide your day to a very happy result to where you are blessed.

My Darling and I will be alone today which is a first in about 40 years. Our children still text and call but it worked out this way.

My Darling just made us a couple potato pancakes. Had coffee with my coconut milk. Just enjoyable.

Going to work on my garage shortly then My Darling has a restaurant picked we will eat at about 3. Her plan for seafood. Fine by me. I am thankful...

Hello all,

My Darling and I went to a restaurant today for supper. Got hungry and left about 2:45 or so and arrived about 3 or just a little after. (Only live a mile and a quarter or so away.) When we pulled into that parking lot some friends we haven't seen since we had our house warming about 18 or so months ago were getting out of their car as they had just arrived back from Florida where they now live to stay at their house here...

My Darling and I just got back home. Had a real good time and am thankful...

This was a little of what we had. (I don't do crab legs much if at all and didn't have any today.) My 120 pound Darling did the damage for both of us as she really partakes at times with seafood. She is partial to King Crab Legs but Snow Crab Legs did the trick today...

They had a really nice selection set out today...

Have a very Happy and peaceful, rest of your Thanksgiving day....

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving surrounded by the ones you love. Possibly my favorite holiday. First one without the loving smile of my Mom. It was tough for my Dad but he tried not to show it. Christmas will be tougher. Thankfully our family is close and he has a strong support system.

Cats tomorrow night and UL Saturday. One last chance for this football season. A win won't salvage the season but it'll take a little bit of the sting out. Mercifully it will come to an end.

As always, GO CATS!

Good morning from Burbach, Germany. Currently 34°F and cloudy. Warm here with wood stove going. Could see 40°F later today.

Awesome celebration last night at Hotel Bechtel. Visiting an old friend later today. May hit up Christmas market in Siegen later tonight. Heading to Bamberg Sunday.

Happy Friday and wishing y'all a good one.

Grilled turkey on left is some of the best I every had. Full meal was incredible. Split with my nephew.

Pig! :p I mean that in the nicest way. I probably would not have shared it so...

Was watching some Christmas markets from Germany, France, Switzerland, and a couple of more areas on YouTube yesterday with my wife and daughter. Now both want to visit someday as I told them I had been to many of those myself in the 8+years I spent in Germany during my military career.

Good morning D-League. Cold and clear in the east. 33 degrees as I headed out for my run.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We did at our home. Small but full of cheer.

Hope the Cats can add to this fun hoops season. I’ve had fun the past two days watching both the Hoosiers and UNC-Cheats each drop a pair.

Have a good day.

Pom Fritz, oh the Pom Fritz... Brats and Pom Fritz in Wiesbaden. (Forgive any spelling mistakes.) 1983-84 and I still remember the spotlight tours. And, Brats and Pom Fritz... Heavenly memories.....

Good morning all,

My Darling and I are moving slow this morning. Readying myself a pot of coffee. My Darling doesn't partake.

Heading to the commissary shortly.

The man I was with yesterday was the same MOS as I was and that's rare. Do not remember meeting another Imagery Interpreter (II) since I left the service. Was seriously shocked but he was for sure....

An enjoyable evening for My Darling and me...

Have a very fine day!

Go CATS!!!!!

Just got back, had a good trip. Made all our stops to include...(The Quantico Marine Base Commissary and package store...)

Had to look and see when the last stop date like this was made to ensure I wasn't putting too many away...

It was September 20th... About 69 days to drink 48 bottles of beer. (I actually have three bottles left so...)

460653139_8949503968396437_6617129566251648552_n.jpg

So, 48 bottles of beer on the wall, 48 bottles of beer. If BBUK drinks his normal share, see you in 69 days... NO, I have had NO beer or alcohol today...

My wife just got a package she had been waiting from her mother that was sent via USPS about 4 days ago. It was supposed to get to us the day before Thanksgiving. The package was only 18"X14"X4" and about 6lbs. It had her mother's home-made chocolate cookies my daughter likes, a roll of Pringles Sour Cream (not sure why), two pair of socks and a birthday card for my daughter who turns 19 8 Dec. Since she sent it supposedly overnight, she must have also insured it because, it cost $101.00 to ship. My wife's mother is nuts. I have said it before, I am sure glad they moved to Florida back at the end of March.

$101.00 for about 20 cookies, a roll of Pringles, a couple of pair of socks, and a birthday card. I still can't believe it. LOL. My wife is still shaking her head.

Oh well, me and the wife had just got back from lunch and buying some netting Christmas lights from Lowes to go on my bushes out front. Will start putting up the tree and decorations here shortly so, I need some coffee to offset the after-lunch coma I am about to go into sitting here.
