You have ended your AD career by hiring two cheaters plus a Bill Curry. For this you have a football field named after you. All you did was hire Hal Dumme, who bought shame to UK and proved he was way over his head. This after the Bill Curry fiasco when you kept him two years extra after the 1994 season of 1-10. Now you hire Pitino, who left you for the NBA and came back to coach vs UK and eventually was a proven cheater, first off his wife and then off his employer. Not only that you kept Keith Madison way too long by saying repeatedly that UK would never win in baseball because they were the northern most team in the SEC. John Cohen proved that to be false and Nick Mingione will continue proving you wrong.

Yeah, one could argue Newton made some poor choices in regards to football, but Pitino was a solid hire at the time. Furthermore, Tubby Smith was a solid hire at the time as well. Yeah, Tubbyball was ugly and boring at times, but at least he didn't flush UK basketball down the toilet like Billy G.

Part of the problem is that he literally tried to discourage RP from taking the job... that stupid move worked as reverse physiology to the sociopath
He then let RP convince him to hire tubby
Bama fans laughed hard when we took Curry.

Hiring Tubby was a no brainer at the time. Tubby was by far the most successful of the former Pitino assistants. He had taken Tulsa to the Sweet Sixteen twice, then Georgia in his first year there, and they were a #1 seed in his second year at UGA. Tubby was the obvious choice.

He also elevated Mike Leach to Division I as Mumme's OC. No one has had more of an impact on college football in the last 20 years than Leach/Mumme. Now practically every team runs some variation of the Air Raid. When Newton hired Mumme, no one other than BYU was running it.

Pitino was clean before his UL days and he was an excellent hire. There is no coincidence the only sizable scandal Pitino has been involved in started at UL, when Calipari came to Kentucky. Correlation doesn't always mean causation, but it is indeed a necessary ingredient. Rick was a slam dunk hire for UK then and nothing about his run at louisville changes that.

Kentucky does in fact have a geographical disadvantage when it comes to baseball. You can make light of that if you wish, but then you prove you don't know sht about the sport. And I don't have the figures, but I'd venture to say that modern day revenue sources make it much easier to compete than that of '76, '86, 96. Also modern technology and facility advancements make weather in baseball become slightly less of a factor than before.

Some people just bash anything that's older than the milk in your fridge. Giving absolutely no consideration for the contextual circumstances surrounding each era.
