I am not a gambling person and would have no idea of how to go online and bet even if I wanted to. Just have no interest in it but if that is your thing then go for it, to each his own.
But is it me or has the whole gambling thing on sports exploded ?
The guys on KSR seem to be obsessed with it and are constantly pushing it and talking about it.
When the whole sports gambling debate thing being made legal or not in KY awhile back that is ALL they talked about.
With social media, cell phones etc I suppose it is easier to participate now more than ever.
Again to each his own
About Bradshaw the rumors are flying about the possibility of him being involved in point shaving. Again we don't know what is going on with him. I just hope whatever it is does not taint or hurt our BB program.

I think that the reason KSR pushes it so much is their partnership with Draft Kings ow whichever company it is. They didn't seem to talk about it so much until then.

It was happening way before on line gambling started and probably will get worse now that most anyone with a phone can place a wager

Since gambling is legal now, point shaving should be legal too. I'm sorry loser degenerates, you're just going to have to factor who's on the take when you do your parlays from now on.

KSR aside, look at the number of commercials for sports gambling. Even ESPN has shows dedicated to sports gambling. It's a different time.

I just wish it didn't get so much attention/posts/etc. here on the board though.

If you want to gamble that's your business. But there's no need to post gambling threads, picks, advice, brags, etc. here.

A player could bet on themselves. It say’s over/under 4.5 rebounds, they could bet under and make sure they stop at 4. If 5th rebound comes right to them, let it bounce off their chest to the other team. No thanks, I hope that stays illegal

You essentially just succinctly posted exactly why gambling is not a smart thing to do.

Yes, I am 100% for that. That player owes you nothing.

Yep agree- look at all the pro teams now in Las Vegas- for years, Vegas could not have pro sports (I believe) but now that gambling is so widespread, they will get an MLB team in a couple years to go with football and hockey

KSR, Barstool, ESPN, and pretty much all sports media outlets are taking money from these gambling companies and really don't care about what will almost certainly be a negative impact long term. I'd bet a good amount of money (pun intended) that in several years once studies have been conducted we'll realize the amount of gambling addicts has spiked exponentially and we've invented a new national epidemic for seemingly no reason other than to make the rich richer. Have seen the problems first hand, especially in college aged kids. Rabbit is out of the hat at this point though.

I wonder if the Matt Jones of the world will feel complicit?

Gambling should never have been normalized. And I say this as someone who used to gamble quite freqently.
Agreed but I get it. We can have Bingo, the lottery, and horse racing but the line was drawn at sports gambling being widespread for years and years. Really makes no sense. That's like alcohol being legal for eons and weed can't. But we can have all this Delta 8,9, and 10 but that's just fine.

Nah, enabling the most dangerous drug we have seen with legal stamps of approval is the farthest thing from making sense. People are literally dropping like flies. I don’t think more “awareness “ is going to help them either as druggies care more about getting high than staying alive
Most people aren't buying fentanyl, they are buying drugs laced with it. Give them safe access to the drugs they really want and it will cut down on fentanyl usage.

Grew up in a drug home. I appreciate your view, but I think it is naïveté on steroids. Plenty of people want the fentanyl, even despite knowing the dangers. It’s not as though you have some epidemic of innocent people getting blindsided. They want the high no matter what

I don't just say this blindly, it's having positive effects in several parts of the world. But to the average conservative they'd rather imprison and punish folks for stepping out of line than literally save money, lives, and reduce crime.

Yep, I’d rather punish them and keep them off the streets. And yes, I’m unashamedly a conservative. Seeing drugs first hand the way I have I feel can definitely cultivate a strong view. I do appreciate that this is a topic you are passionate about. I don’t think you have to be a far right conservative to disagree with the legalization and government control of extremely lethal drugs. Highly recommend watching someone like Jelly Roll and his testimony about the effect of fentanyl on communities, he’s far from a conservative but passionate about this issue

I understand the effect on communities, but you're using a short sighted approach. There are other techniques that are reducing usages and saving lives in unconventional ways. But sure, lock em up! They are all terrible people who aren't worthy of redemption and help!

Tightening law doesn’t equate to saying they are terrible people. That’s an equivalency I didn’t make. I’m saying it is a serious issue that demands serious handling. Straw manning is not a good way to handle an opposing thought. And I respect the other view because I understand it comes from a good place. I just see the hell drugs rain upon not just the person who takes them, but those around them. The libertarian view on drugs presupposes a morally relative position where it is perceived as “not affecting others” so it is a moral good to increase liberty of the individual—-I just think it’s a false presupposition to think it only affects the person who uses the drugs.

Data and research be damned, continue doing what we've been doing since the 80s! War on drugs! It works guys!

Why? Even if you aren’t placing money on the game, the “Kentucky is -29.5 favorites” or “Kentucky is +9.5 against Duke” type threads are just a measurement of analytical expectations. It’s part of how games are measured and viewed which helps frame expectations and judgement on performance.

I’ll respectfully bow out at this point. I noted your strawmanning and your response was not engagement with my points but further strawmanning. Good luck to you, sir!

Some don't care about their children or they don't have children or think 9 month abortion s are fine. That being the case why would you give a crap about drug use or gambling and the harm it causes to families? The me society is upon us.
