Coach cal

I'm not disagreeing with you, but why would Coach K's emotions matter in this at all? He's a pasty, nasal drip of a pampered old man and Harry owes him nothing more than a, "Thanks for your efforts, Coach, but Goodbye and God bless."
Well he did go to Harry's birthday party. :p

Speaking of shooters whatever happened to that kid that was going I think to Oral Roberts U? Rotnei or something like that? Was supposedly deadly from 3. Just remembered we needed him so badly.[eyeroll] (I could look it up but history, especially ancient history isn't my gig.)

Rotnei Clark? He considered ORU but went to Arkansas and then Butler for a year.

i think people are over thinking this.

Cal wants Giles. There's nothing more. He's doing everything he can to try to get him.

It is closer than you think. Giles loves Cal. Just wait. Not optimistic, but not overly pessimistic. Inside stuff....Monk is in the mix. Could be Monk declares BEFORE Giles. If not, the toss goes to Duke, but it ain't over. Been tryin' to tell ya.

Dave, how is the underlined portion of your post above related. You seem to be implying if Monk declares first it would be a good sign for Giles. Why?

This line of thinking makes no sense.

Bingo, and it actually plays against what we know of Cal historically.

When Terrence Jones had called Antigua to inform him that he made a mistake by picking Washington in the spring of 2010, Antigua told Cal, "Terrence is on the phone."

Cal thought he was calling to tell him thanks for the recruitment, so he told Antigua, "Tell the kid, 'good luck'" and refused to talk to him. Then Antigua told Calipari that Jones was actually second guessing his decision. It was only at that point that Cal picked up the phone.

He doesn't operate from a bizarre world where he creepily chases kids around after it's clear he's lost them to another program.

Monk is not a necessary x or y guy on the left side of the equal side (I don't get algebra), but if he decided for UK, Giles is very interested. You guys that will diss that proposal have no clue. And really, I don't either, but I get stuff. If you want to hear it, I try.
Much appreciated, Dave.

I was sitting at the table next to Cal and the coaches when that call came in.

We were in Louisville at the Barnstable Brown Party, Derby Eve.

Definitely caused a change in the atmosphere at that table.

Where do you get this info about the Terrace Jones phone call?

So Cal said "Tell the kid good luck?" I'm only asking because if he called Antigua and told him he made a mistake and he is having second thoughts why wouldn't have Coach O give Cal the heads up on why Terrence was calling instead of just yelling across the table or room?

I have no idea where he goes either, but to suggest that Cal needs to keep recruiting him knowing he has no shot at him because he needs some kind of inroad to the Oak Hill program or to be able to recruit another kid is absurd. Each recruitment will stand on its own merit when you are John Calipari, the head coach of the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

I'm not sure I understand your question.

Jones called Coach O, told him what he had done and that he thought he had made a mistake.

O said, Jones was on the phone and had committed to UW, Cal said tell him good luck.

O then said Jones was telling him it was a mistake and Cal got on the phone.

The rest of the conversation isnt readily available.

But that table definitely was more somber the rest of the night. We learned pretty quickly that Jones had committed to UW and had no idea he was thinking about changing it, the "I made a mistake" portion came out later.

so maybe Giles is going to pick UK and help reel Monk in
let me dream

thanks for the info Dave

Ive seen you predict where people are going to go and you seem like you have pretty good sources. At the same time Matt Jones think he'll pick Duke but doesn't think it's a lock. Drew Franklin makes it sound like it's pretty much a done deal that Giles will pick Duke. Evan Daniels said that Duke is still the leader. The crystal ball says 96% Duke and 4% Wake and not one national recruiting analyst has picked Kentucky. Now could people start switching their guess to UK? Yes, but it doesn't make it likely. From the sound of it you make it seem like UK has a 30%-40% chance and I'm really curious as to why you think that and what info you are hearing that no one else seems to be. Also isn't Monk supposedly deciding in the spring? And why would Monk deciding to attend UK trump his best friend Tatum going to Duke?

So this isn't really how it went down I don't guess. To say that Cal refused the phone call. To say there was confusion would be more appropriate.

I believe it was Son of Saul that mentioned that info not brianpoe.

Incorrect. To say it the way I wrote it was exactly appropriate. I'm a bit surprised you weren't paying attention at the time, because it was widely discussed virtually everywhere by UK fans.

Here's the article.

When Jones called Antigua about an hour later, Calipari was still agitated.

“Orlando said, ‘It’s Terrence,’ and tried to hand me the phone,” Calipari said. “I said, ‘Just wish him good luck. What does he need to tell me?’ But Orlando said he really needed to talk to me, so I got on the phone. He said he had made a mistake and then said, ‘Will you still have me?’ Of course I said yes.”

Let me clear this up...

I was sitting next to brianpoe at that party back in 2010. The reason Cal was so upset about the phone call is because it interrupted brianpoe's intense lecture on the Dribble Drive Offense and how Cal was doing it all wrong. That phone call, while ensuring #8, is also the reason we haven't seen the Cats run a true version of the DD offense.

And the reason the Cats will be running the DD more effectively THIS season is because brianpoe had a full week to finish his in-depth lecture whilst vacationing with Cal and his family in the Bahamas earlier this summer.

True story.

Thank you for clearing this up Kaizer!

Lol kyboss360, who cares

Your absolutely right and Im sorry I hijacked the thread somewhat. It just made me think about a few separate things. My bad guy's, shit fire I'm not trying to argue just trying to get some clarification. As for Saul I do remember when it happend just don't remember it being said that Cal flat out refused the phone call. Don't get your panties in a wad it's all good just a discussion.

It's awful what happend to Giles and I believe it to be close but playing in his home state and with his best friend is probably to much to overcome. I love the fight in our coach though.

Are you talking about Rotnei Clark from like 5-6 years ago or more? He played a couple years at Arkansas then I think he transferred somewhere. Yes he was alights out 3pt shooter. I wish we had one of those lights out shooting white boys every year coming off the bench.
