CI Wrestling Thread #56

Andrade beat Ricochet for that title two or three days ago. Figured you knew that since you're the only one who usually brings up the Speed stuff.

Speed seems almost as if its a separate entity. Only the chronically online care about it one way or the other. I know I don’t drop what I’m doing in the middle of the workday to watch 3 minute matches. I don’t really care for this concept.

Being relegated to Speed is like working AEW Dark Elevators or whatever they called the Monday YouTube show back in the beginning.

Well that’s one way to write him off.
If that was real glass on the car did anyone ask Punk first?? 😂

So they wrote off Ricochet in an ambulance spot but in kayfabe he is still the Speed champion with one match left against Andrade lol
Selective memory I tweeted it the other day

Regardless they could have used tk’s hack and vacate it and have a tournament to get the new champ

Ricochet seems to be going against the grain in terms of WWE wrestlers considering AEW. WWE has had such momentum and AEW has had such a lack of momentum in the past year or so (I've had second-hand embarrassment for Adam Copeland because his jump was met with such apathy). I don't see Ricochet moving the needle at all, but hey, get that money if it's being offered.

They already aired everything but the finals of the current tournament. Andrade vs. Ricochet is the only match left in the tournament.

The occasional back and forth roster changes will continue but there's one current needle mover that's realistic and that's MJF. If TK is smart, he's probably locked him down for the next five years.

Your retired or semi-retired guys like Cena, Austin, Taker, Rock, etc. will never appear in AEW. Current legends and future HOFer's like Orton, Cody, Punk, Reigns, etc. will stay put. I can see WWE offering Cody a Legends deal immediately following his retirement to keep him in the fold and off AEW tv. He'd be the perfect elder ambassador for one of the two companies. Others who can move the needle like Knight and Drew are probably WWE lifers now and LA Knight couldn't be LA Knight in AEW. Guys like Finn, KO, and Sami might pull an Adam Copeland after retiring from WWE but you're just going to see guys in their mid-to-late 40's trying to do things they did at 25.

Looks like peacock premium is on sale for 20 bucks for a year today if anyone wants to sign up. I think all the WWE stuff will be on there.

I took a long break from wrestling. Why is Goldberg so criticized?

In summary:

1. Ended Bret Hart’s career in 2000 with a sloppy kick to the head
2. Terrible worker. Can only have a two minute squash match. Never bothered to improve.
3. Took his WCW push seriously and thought he was some kind of unstoppable badass despite not knowing a pen wrote him into that position

Despite the fact that Bret Hart wrestled a couple of matches after the Goldberg match, including a hardcore match. He still blames Goldberg for everything. He seems to bring it up every time a microphone is in front of him

Depending on how a hardcore match is worked it's actually safer than a regular match. Now if they're doing a bunch of insane bumps then no. If they are doing less bumps but more gimmicked weapons spots then yeah it's safer.

That's actually one of the reasons why Sting wrestled the matches he did in AEW. He got known for his big bump spots in AEW because he would have like one per match, but he actually did very little bumping.

I remember reading that Balls Mahoney would zip tie his chairs so they wouldn’t have any give, and his reason was to impress the ECW fans. I cringe watching some of the old head shots I use to mark for back in the day.

17-year-old me was nuts about ECW back in 1997. I have a hard time watching it today knowing a) how little those guys were paid to put themselves through that abuse b) the long term effects it had on them.

I used to think all the weapons, bumps and blood were so cool. Now, it’s apparent that a lot of that stuff was to mask mediocre wrestling ability.

I thought it was cool because I was still in the ‘it’s fake so none of this really hurts’ phase. I got past that and still enjoyed it. Now that I know that the reason Mike Awesome jumped to WCW when he did was because Heyman hadn’t paid him in months it soured me on the whole thing :/

I just don’t really understand this whole RUSH thing - so he’s on a roll but he’s gonna job out to MJF on a random dynamite - sounds par for the course I guess.

The way WCW misused Awesome was criminal. I thought he was going to be a huge star. Instead they made him Fat Chick Thriller and That 70s Guy. Oof.
