Cheats may be in hot water

I wonder if Chancellor Dolt is willing to admit that Boxill not only was involved in the fraud but was part of the coverup?

I'm not sure how the water can get any hotter

but no one is in hurry to do anything about it.

Duke (Lance Thomas) and UNCheat have learned the best way to avoid the NCAA is to refuse to come clean and don't say a word....truth be damned.

Exactly.

It appears the NCAA must need to wait until every single shred of evidence comes out...

in other words, check back in 10 years, or so.

I have always believed that when all of this came to light against UNC*** that very little would be done by the NCAA. As time goes by it looks like that may be what is going to happen. The NCAA should have enough evidence now to do something. They sure did not waste time against other schools.

The NCAA operates on an entirely different level for Duke and UNC.

For them it goes something like this...
"You deny doing this? Okay, no punishment."
"There isn't absolute proof of every single detail? Okay, no punishment."
"You refuse to cooperate with us? Okay, no punishment."

For every other school...
"There is an accusation of wrongdoing? Absolute punishment for every accused issue."
"There is the possibility, but no firm evidence of wrongdoing? Full punishment."

I wish I could say it was funny, but it isn't. It's shameful.

See rules 1 and 3 and addendum, rule 4:

"You deny having any knowledge of this?"

For Group A: "Okay, fair enough...not your fault."
For Group B: "Maximum punishment, lack of institutional control."

Thanks to the OP for the links. I didn't realize that there is a criminal investigation going on simultaneously. This isn't going away.

I'd say UNC*** 2015 = Watergate 1973

The ncaa will be forced to punish uncheat or I expect division 4 will be made or the total disband of the ncaa will occur.
I know a lot of administrative people all over the nation from other universities are highly pissed cause nothing has been done yet.
Look at penn st for example. News broke out and in a few weeks the ban hammer began to roll.

this thread needs that photoshopped hot tub filled with the uk haters. i have no skills, but if i did I'd add some unc afam degrees lying about.

Whether is ever penalized or not they are now quite tainted forever! Their hill stinks of it and it will follow them wherever they go

What amazes me is how the UNC is willing to sacrifice it's academic standing to protect a few basketball games.

Time for every team who has been penalized in the last 12-15 yrs. to sue NCAA if they don't come down hard on UNCheat's.

In order for that to happen, the NCAA has to open a formal investigation, which I don't think has, or will happen. It's clear to me that they are going to quietly stick to the "it's an academic issue, not athletic" BS and let it just die off. In fact, I'm not sure why UNC is even spending another penny on PR or legal firms - the NCAA is doing nothing to make them fear for their titles or sports programs.

Oh, for the good old days, when the NCAA had real power. For most of its history, the NCAA could do basically what it wanted in this kind of situation. You were at its mercy. Sure, it was corrupted, and played favorites. But it's ability to act was unquestioned. In the last few years - amazingly fast - the NCAA has basically been emasculated. It caves now at every junction. Power 5 wants to pay athlete expenses, on which Emmert and the NCAA has always said hell no? Go right ahead. Restore Paterno's vacated wins a few short years after smacking PSU around? Sure thing! The story about that in the USAToday made Emmert look especially bad. He basically lied to Penn State, said he had the votes on the death penalty, so they should agree to whatever punishment was recommended, no matter how harsh, else he'd unleash all kinds of heck. Turns out, the committee was something like 19-2 against the death penalty. Emmert lied.

Anyway, the NCAA is so weakened now, so obviously on its death bed, that I'm not sure it can do anything to UNC. Which is a shame, since this appears to be the mother of all athletics scandals.....

The linked article does explain one of the possible penalties if SACS drops the hammer on UNC:

The commission's accreditation is important. Without it, UNC would not be eligible to receive federal funds, which make up a substantial chunk of its budget.

Just an update for you. Ncaa is doing a formal investigation. This time being done by someone who is not a unc cheat alum. Ncaa was called in by Wainstein. This is not just an academic issue. Unc cheat Chancellor Folt admitted it was athletic too. There is a mountain of evidence. The time it takes the ncaa to act is what is baffling. I would almost hope the ncaa tries to sweep this under the rug now. If you think it has been bad for the cheats so far, it will be like Armageddon for the cheats and the ncaa at that time. GBB

My one theory is that they are looking at transcripts to see the actual impact of the fraudulent classes to determine vacating wins. My other theory is that the NCAA has the info sitting on its desk and is just waiting for the committee to get together and determine the punishment.

Rumors are that UNC*** has been going back and forth with the NCAA on an appropriate punishment.

If any of the above is true, I would expect to know something no later than late Spring or early Summer. UNC*** will most likely beg the NCAA to let them play in the tournament this year. There is historical precedent for such a move going back to UNLV.

they will never be punished and ncaa plus emmert helps them do the cover-up

Even if they found 100% of evidence of UNC's cheating, this morning... I don't think they'd lower the boom on this season.

I do recall the UNLV scenario, but I don't quite remember the timing of the final decision and penalty. I thought it had more to do with letting them have the chance to defend the Tournament Championship... being the reason for letting them play that year?

The cheats are trying to lower the boom on Boxhill. Historic president is on how not to handle 18 years or so of blatant cheating. Biggest scandal of all time Tarholes have got to be embarrassed by this mess. The longer the ncaa fails to act the longer this hurts unc *** in recruiting. Future can not look bright at cheater hill for the rest of this decade.

Here's to hoping preacherfan is dead on............right the wrongs for decades past......and set a precedence by taking away bogus championships.
Fining the university should also be high on the list of punishments....not some 500K change that makes it a mockery to even mention.

Calm down! You guys are acting like a self sufficient athletic department paid for a legal trip to the Bahamas with their own money. Worry about things that matter, which is whatever the media says matters.

SACS has pulled Accredation credentials in the past, but never from a school the size of UNC. Only the smaller usually new upstart schools are ever effected by SACS. Loosing accredation will result in a loss of Fedral subsidies in terms of many millions of dollars for a school the size of UNC. You can bet no Administration would upset the political apple cart by allowing the Department of Education to withold funding from a school like UNC. And witholding those funds is the only weapon SACS has at their disposal. You can bet the RW Senators in NC are very aware of the political clout they hold in that matter and have reassured the UNC Administration along those lines. Even if SACS would try and make a point in the name of justice, they have no judicial authority of penalizing them for past transgretions. SACS can only demand that schools are operating contemporairly within their guidelines. Furthermore, the first proceedure SACS would take is to give the school the opportunity of producing reports that show the school is indeed making a serious effort to corrected the educational deficiencies. UNC has an accredation department with employees whose only job is to commnuicate with SACS to meet all of their demands. And those reports are routinely ongoing and will continue unabated even if they are nothing more than rethorical bullshit worded to satisfy the charges levied by SACS. In fact UNC could very well be creating more academic fraud courses at the same time their accredation department is reassuring SACS everything has been corrected and is OK. (My wife worked in such a department at a University for ten years. I have some level of understanding, I am not making this stuff up). Continuing - those reports can take years to complete, reducing the entire matter to a mountain of paperwork that ultimately is approved by some unknown authority within the SACS headquarters in Atlanta - simply to get the matter off the books. SACS would never pull accredation unless the school simply made no effort to submit the required reports and made no effort to make any corrections and continued to operate completely outside of SACS's authority. In other words in this case, NOTHING - ABSOLUTELY - NOTHING is going to be sacrificed by UNC.

party on.
