Cats-Sooners Game Thread

Jesus I just looked at box score lucky we have depth we have 4 starters with 2 fouls

Guys I never seen play this half because of the Vandy run over game

Carr never seen him play today
Butler never seen him play today
Seen about 2 mins of Williams
Same. My fault for recording the game and not watching it live. Stupid Vandy.

I got us at about 40 possessions that half.

UK PPP - 1.075
A&M PPP - 1.025

Overall, we defended alright. We were carried by forcing a ton of Oklahoma turnovers early in the half. Oklahoma made offense look easy though during the last 10 minutes of the half.

It's kinda wild to me that since the SEC is so good we have redefined what a good team is.

This is a top 50 Kenpom team that we are facing on the road. Yet we are acting as if this should be a 20 point win.

This was always going to be a toss up.

He’s holding the ball because the Ky kids aren’t able to get separation or cut with any speed. It’s not their fault, but that pass isn’t there.
Nonsense. They came clear for a handoff. He’s even been inside the line where a pivot/handoff gives them an open shot because their guy went under. Watch again. I’ve seen if for several games, and this not one of those “give it to the KY guys posts.” He’d rather let them clear and try to back his guy down from the top of the key.

On February 26th I think people just need to realize what we got here.

With a healthy Butler, we have an elite offense that can shoot the lights out and take decent care of the ball. It's a team that can put up points on any defense.

We are also a team with a bad defense. And that will ultimately be our downfall.

Combined tho, this isn't a bad first year team for Pope.
I get that to extent man, but they give up 10-15 points every game because of simple shit.

Why can’t he dial up a Zone defense?. It has looked good at times against other teams. We cannot guard a fence post one on one. Bigger stronger guards take this team off the dribble relentlessly.
Because he Coaches a crap zone - way to spread out leaves corners wide open - it’s a bad design - I was all for zone to keep our best players on floor limit dribble penetration and fouls but it’s such a bad zone we can’t play it

Need Butler to get back to the old Butler
I don’t know if we will get that Butler the rest of the season because I just don’t know if he will ever actually be at 100%. I don’t know anything I just think he wants to get out on the court and play as much as he can because he just seems like he’s that type of player.

I might get crushed for this but I don’t think we are in a bad spot. We barely played starters due to fouls and still up at half on the road. We should have the legs advantage

The thing I feel too about zone is I don't think you can just go to it if it's something that hasn't been practiced enough.

I'm not convinced this is a big part of Pope's defensive philosophy. It's not a big part of many teams either. There's a reason for that IMO.

Not to say switching it up from time to time isn't a bad idea.

I'm not sure what people expect Pope to do.

We just have a bad set of defensive players. Like Cal did last season.

But given this team was thrown together last second, he at least to me gets another year or two to get his type of players here. Then I'll make the assessment.
I agree with you here. I’m at the point where I hope they can win 1 game in the tournament. Because we’ve won exactly 1 game since 2019. Feels like we’re in the same stretch as the last 2 years of Tubby and the 2 Gillispie years.

Don’t get me wrong—I love this team. The joy is back. The big wins have been awesome…but with each passing game my hope for this team wanes. Coaches have figured this team out. A legit UK team wins this game by 12-15 points, Oklahoma is average as it gets.

I do think Pope starts turning it around next year. Just have to add some true two-way players in the portal.

Almost every time we have went to zone, the opposite team immediately splashes a three. Not the answer imo

Fears playing very well and making Joliet proud. I've got 17 teachers on a group text tonight and most of us are watching him tonight.

That said, I hope he misses every shot in the second half against UK but scores 50 points in his next game.

Man, we gotta be real an average defensive team is up double digits right now. Oklahoma is way happier with where the game is then we are
