Can't afford to fire Stoops?

Because we don’t have 30 million for a buyout, it’s quite simple. I don’t know what it’s going to take to get that through the fans’ head. Unless stoops leaves on his own, he’s coming back, and all signs point to us being as bad or even worse next year

It’s 44 mil

You don’t have to pay it in a lump sum, and if no one goes to the games next year they stand to lose even more.

This is known. We can’t fire him and pay the buyout. He would need to leave for another school or retirement. Otherwise he would have to be willing to sit down with Mitch and negotiate a separation agreement assuming he is not happy here any longer.

It looks like as of now stoops and bush will return. Everyone else is a question mark. We are looking at a ground floor rebuild next season. There is not a sec level qb on this roster. So there’s that. The O line is inept. Our best receivers are playing their last game in blue today.

Gonna cost the university 4x that much to let him drive the program back into the gutter while he milks the contract.

I don't care what Matt Jones says. It was a stupid contract at the time. Other schools may have been interested in Stoops, but none of them were going to pay anywhere close to what we did.

We could have paid Stoops more than anyone else and it still would've been much less generous than this current contract.

Who were we even bidding against? No one

They can absolutely negotiate the number down.

The issue is I don't think Stoops will be willing to even talk unless he wants out.

Why offer anything more than the market rate?

Matt has his facts wrong on that contract argument.
He says we were coming off a Peach Bowl with Liam and Levis coming back.
We resigned Stoops in November 2022, 11 months later.
We lost to Vandy at home the day before the contract was announced.
We were balls deep in a pretty underwhelming season
Liam was with the rams agains an Scang was a known failure.
Levis was not coming back and we had no backup on roster.
Plus crod was suspended 4 games and wasn't coming back with no backup on the roster.
We were 6-4 and just lost to Vandy with Georgia next.
Auburn was only suitor for Stoops, they also liked Friexs, and we were two weeks from. The Carousel.

Doesn’t matter. We don’t have the money to pay the buyout and the boosters are friends with stoops. Its best if you just accept this fact and stop yelling at the clouds to fire him cause it is NOT happening, even if we lose by 70

And how many millions will they lose if they don't fire him? I bet it will be way more than 30 or 40 million in ticket sales alone.

Honestly, I don’t care. If the university wants to send the football program 50 years backward it is not my problem in any way and will only entertain me. How do you feel about that?

Stoops isn’t getting fired. He’s going get a chance to fix what’s happened. Now whether you believe that’s possible or not is a different answer

We get in excess of 50 MILLION from the conference payout every year. The buyout can be paid in annual installments. 44 mill over five years is not that hard to make work.

And that's why Barney doesn't care. UK gets a ton of money just because we are in the sec. We hardly ever do anything on the field of play to earn our piece of the sec pie but get it just because.

How do you propose we get rid of him if we don't have the money???
I don’t propose anything. I’m simply speaking the truth. It will be MORE expensive to not fire him. I don’t work in accounting for the UK athletics department. If they would rather sacrifice $200 million over a decade instead of finding $30 million today, it is not my problem. It is incredibly short sighted, but not my problem. It will never be my problem.

He can’t, he won’t, and he honestly doesn’t even plan to try. What we have now is already him trying. If he could fix this it wouldn’t have happened and wouldn’t need fixing.

A&M's fan revolt is going to set us back years and I hate their program because of it. And the military cosplay, cult-like environment on their campus.

Hope Texas takes them out to the woodshed tonight.
I mean they were right to be pissed and it’s clearly working out for them.

We have $3.5 million just in the disparity between Cal’s former salary and Pope’s current salary. We literally just had $3.5 million dropped in our lap. Almost half the buyout almost literally out of thin air, but we don’t have the rest somehow. Give me a break
