Thinking back, Mills' story is remarkable. IIRC Cam has said Pitino told him several times he would never be able to play at UK. He stayed around and was a member of 3 SEC Regular season champs, 3 SECT winners, 4 Elite 8 teams, 3 Final 4 visits, 2 titles and 1 runners-up. He rarely played the 1st 2 seasons, but was a major factor in the runner-up season (1997) and the title winner in 1998 (a HUGE late 3 pointer versus Duke) and 2 big 3 pointers in the title game against Utah.
Year by year for Cam:
1995 and 1996 only had 0-1 on 3 pointers.
1997 he was averaging 3 ppg up till the SECT. He was an absolute sniper from then on:
From 3 in the SECT Cam was 10-16; 17-27 in the NCAAT for a combined 27-43 for an UK record 62.8%. Overall, from the field in the post-season Mills was 37-61 for 60.7% and averaged 12 ppg
1998 in the SECT from 3 Mills went 8-13 and 3-9 in the NCAAT for a combined 11-22 for 50% (and those 3 were unreal HUGE)
So, for his career in the post-season, a former walk-on went 38-66 for 57.6% from 3. Under the greatest pressure one can imagine.
PS: Mills still holds the all time record at UK for highest 3 point percentage in one season (53.2% in 1997) and is #3 in career percentage (47.4%)
