Calipari: UK's Briscoe can be elite defender

GREAT article! Can you say "another" walking recruiting billboard.....from, from,...a PARENT!!! Geez what parent wouldn't send their son to Coach Cal with these multiple, multiple statements from parents "after" the fact. (I might add....for YEARS now.!)

Yes, a great article! I didn't know what to expect from Briscoe on the defensive end (didn't doubt him, just didn't know), but if he is as tough a defender as he is a slasher, that is incredible news. Doesn't he have a crazy wingspan for being 6'3"?

Great read. Cal has Briscoe pointed in the right direction. This team could be epic. I don't think I have this many tools in my garage, barn and trucks combined. This team is loaded. It all comes down to how they all mesh together and execute on the court. Can't wait for this season to officially start.

From what I have read, the kid has all the talent you would want to have and is not afraid of a thing. We need guys like that: talent out the ears and not afraid to fight a bear. I always think back to when Ramel Bradley got on Andrew Bogut in the tournament. Man that kid wasn't afraid of anyone.

I had posted after blue white game, a stated true observation that Ulis was better in first half when he wasn't flanked by Briscoe and Murray. But boy, after Ottowa, love the idea of those three on the floor at same time. And I love Lee starting with Poy coming in soon after for more beef when opponent slightly winded. So... yes... I'll jump on any bandwagon that works. Thing is Briscoe will have to be sub-ed sooner than Murray or Ulis, so he can get breather to back up Ulis for a few.

My sources tell me that Pitino tattoo scared the crap out of him.

If Briscoe brings it on D and is elite on D, it will make the NBA want him that much more. I don't think he has ever been known for defense, but I do think he has that "IT" factor to be a great defender. When he's in the NBA, he will be guarding guys near his height. He's a bulldog type of guard and should turn out to be a great defender. We will see.

6'8 wingspan, I believe.

Tenacity, arm length, strength and lateral quickness are the tools of a great perimeter defender. He has all but the quickness.

He wants to be our best defender, that's the attitude that can help you reach your goal.

Thanks for the link. I agree with many others here. This was an excellent article. If Briscoe continues to buy in to what Cal has said, it makes this team just that much better. We're gonna score, of that I have no doubt. But if this team can use its talent and athleticism to defend, look out! That's when it's a completely different level of Basketball. We've seen it happen before.

That 2011-12 team was a great offensive team, but the reason they won the title was their defense. I have already seen it in this group, they like to play D. And that's gonna pay huge dividends.
