Tre is well spoken. I’d trade some of his eloquence for boxing out and making free throws though. He gave up a huge rebound at the end of that game and missed the front end of a 1 and 1 at least twice that I recall. But he’s a smart player, hopefully he learns to make effort plays.

If I hear one more player tell me how I should give credit to a team that lost by 30 to app state for coming into Rupp Arena and punking us, I’m gonna puke.

Every member of the organization, from the head man on down, needs to 100% own this shit show. Not 90%, not 75%. This is UNC Freaking Wilmington we’re talking about. Own your all systems failure.

That’s the trouble with UK’s program anymore. No accountability.

I agree but I saw what I saw in regards to White and Newby.
They were taking our guys to the hole at will.
I saw a couple guys who could shoot, dribble, pass etc along with above average athleticism.
I don't know why they lost so bad to App St.
Maybe they only play when they want to idk.

At some point we have to admit that having VERY average mid-major players REGULARLY having career days against UK is a symptom of coaching (and lack of player effort as a result of that coaching).

You either make it a priority to coach players to work hard on defense, and to be disciplined on offense.......

.........OR YOU DON'T.

You know, the players and coaches and staff can take full accountability for how they played and still give credit to the other team for making plays, right? Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive.

I agree he could have tried a zone but in a way that's waving a white flag and admitting "my guys can't guard you".
I can't call White "an average mid major player", looked to have SEC size, skill and athleticism to me but basketball is like that sometimes.
I'm sure an Arkansas fan that tuned into our game against KState last year was scratching his head wondering how this Reeves guy who can't throw it in the ocean came into Bud Walton and dropped 38.

Better to admit that our guys can't guard and actually DO something about it, rather than letting teams PROVE IT down the stretch.

Yeah no doubt Cal is a lot softer on theses guys now.
Everyone remembers the infamous "selfish MF'er" when he was tearing T Jones a new one on national TV.
He doesn't get on guys like that anymore.

wave the white flag because it was true.....no one could guard those guys. you have to try something different to get the opponent out of rhythm. instead ccc just keeps allowing the wide open lay ups and jump shots. of course he would say can't play zone because you can't rebound out of it, well, this team can't rebound anyway. a "coach" will try anything to help his team win, instad of just sitting there picking his nose.

Completely disagree. They absolutely are mutually exclusive when Wilmington’s ability to make plays was due to our complete lack of focus, lack of effort and intensity, and lack of fundamentals being taught OR executed. Same thing with Saint Peter’s, same thing with Evansville. VASTLY overmatched teams that beat us because we ALLOWED them to, not because they were superior to us in any way, shape or form. Like I said, until the entire program takes 100% ownership of these pathetic performances, nothing will change.

The way we played in that loss is, always has been, and always will be the exact way we bow out of the tournament in March.

I love Tre. Probably our most steady player this year. But man... did you notice on both of those HUGE free throw misses he was smiling and chatting it up with the ref just before shooting? I told my wife while watching, "It's great that you're feeling comfortable and loose, but you better focus and make those free throws." It happened on both trips! Man, do I miss Quickley closing his eyes and shaking out his arms before shooting free throws. I knew they were going in every time.

Yep. Going back to West Virginia.
Yep. That loss at the time didn't seem like much (WVU got hot from the arc, we went cold, etc) and you just kinda chalked it up to luck, other team hitting shots, which is still partially true. BUT, we've now seen it waaaaay to many times to just write that off as a one off. It's just Cal's style. He loves a rock fight. Which, as much as I them, are fine as long as you can win them.

We lost to St. Peter's the exacty same way as we did Sat. Up by 6 with about 5-7 to go. We've seen it HOW MANY times now? It's sickening. If Cal doesn't have a dude that can cut to the basket, and we didn't Sat, in that siutation? We lose. With DJ being out and Rob out of control, that's exactly what happened.

Reed, for all his skills and talent, is not a slash to the basket kind of dude. Neither is Reeves. They can do it if there's space, but they can't take their man of the dribble to often.

St. Peter's loss- Tyty not 100%, Grady playing on two busted feet= no outside threat, and no viable cut to the basket. We lose.

Evansville same way. Maxey was not able to cut and drive as well yet, no outside shooting. We lose.

Richmond- BJ was not as advertised, no outside shooting. We lost.

I'm starting to see a pattern here.

Thankfully, we DO have the shooting this year. But shots just didn't fall. And we couldn't guard a lamp post, and couldn't take guys of the dribble. So, we lost.

The loss to WVU should have been a wake up call to the UK fans, as he was out coached by Huggy, & without his best player. That guard did what he wanted off the dribble the entire game. Just like the UConn game, where their guards beat UK off the dribble. Yet the great ccc did not try anything different to slow the opponent down, resulting in the start of these disappointing losses. Now, it is just common place for these losses to happen. Even middle school & high school coaches try something different if one thing isn't working. It is time for this over paid used car salesman to move on down the road.
Actually the lack of coaching started when he just gave away a NCAA title @ Memphis by not fouling with time running out and a 3 point lead.

I mean, there was no way to tell, as we were excited to have a new coach and should've made the FF. Then of course we won the title in 2012. I think after 2015 was when we really saw the "What the hell is he doing" stuff really creep in.

You mean Desean Butler? He actually played against us and played very well.. it was against Duke where he was injured. Go figure.

I was actually at the game sitting right behind the eruption zone and noticed the exact same thing! Like you said it’s great that he’s comfortable, but only if he’s locked in too. So far he’s shooting his lowest FT % of his career here at UK. Obviously a small sample size but hopefully he improves in that area. Especially when they’re must makes.

if you’re going to talk about being a leader, as Tre often has, you have to be able to AT LEAST hit the front end of 1 and 1’s. It has cost us in both our losses so far.

Just being older than everybody else don’t make you a leader.
