Cal Postgame

Letting the fans know he went with the grind it out slow game. At least he isn't hiding it. He also stated that he has two teams a small team and a big team.

Yeah it defintiely isn't Bradshaws fault and Bradshaw would be the perfect big for this team. The problem is Cal and his desire to play the big clumpy lineups together. This team would be so good with a lineup of Dj, Reed, Antonio, Thiero, and Bradshaw on the floor together. Any swap of Justin and Thiero or Rob for the 3 guards would also be effective. These are the type of lineups we need to play our best but Cal stays away from them. He is willing to sacrifice good play to play his 1990s style of basketball.

This is why I don't like Calipari. It's like he's doing it on purpose because he knows how to trigger our fanbase by pushing the right buttons.

I thought Calipari liked the run and gun offense!

What happened to running the ball up by being aggressive on the boards?

The hypocrisy has no bounds when it comes to Calipari. Stubborn as a dead mule which has cost us titles (2010, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2019).

I know injuries have been bad for us as well over the years, but Calipari has done nothing to try and overcome it.

And to put the cherry on top, he'll set guys on the bench who's playing great only to watch them play poorly the rest of the game. It makes me wonder if he's doing this to upset fans.

Calipari, just let this group run and crush the other team. Don't try and coach, just let them loose. They have the tools. They'll be fine.
That would happen a lot if Calipari wasn't a narcissistic ass. He's always making it about him and when he gets called out, he blames it on our player's.

Great recruiter, horrendous coach. If Calipari cared, he would let another coach while he recruits players. I know, it's a pipe dream, but damnit, it would kick ass.

His control freak nature of needing to micro manage the game is a large part of why he failed in the NBA. Much more of a players game and as the college game has evolved to more of a players game, Cal’s success has diminished. It really is odd because with the players he gets, you would think it be the opposite. He just cannot help himself.

don't care if you like him but is there a coach at this level without a massive ego
Agree but there can be differences in how their ego manifests itself. If it is I’m going to win at all costs to show you I’m the best is one thing. However if it is I’m going to show you my way is right at all costs well that is not so good.

It appears to me that Cal has moved from the former to the latter unfortunately.

If Cal senses a Coach can beat him he will slow it down, limit possessions, and try to defensively out-talent the other team play by play.
Now he has his big guy who can block shots during his slower strategy for the first time in years.
The patented CCC system will work better as Bradshaw gets his game rolling. 👻

Why go slow is what I don't get. Bradshaw is not the reason either. Brsdshaw looked pretty good. It's Cal.

Could tell right away he had the brakes on from the tip.
Posted the long version in a different thread but my opinion is the shift for the spread floor and shooting 25+ 3s with ball movement over dribble drive back to our standard downhill drive and post focused offense in the circle action is bc the other style was not maximizing (showing holes) in Edwards and Wagner’s game. The shift back to 1v1 downhill basketball that is drive oriented and not ball movement oriented emphasizes Wagner’s and Edwards strengths. Those 2 guys were projected top 10 coming here and they have slid down the draft boards which could be used in negative recruiting efforts. Cal prioritizes individual player success over team success.

All we can hope for is that we have enough overall talent that we can win with any style even if the offense is better playing the style that was better for the team but had Wagner and Edwards as our 4th and 5th best players. Luckily this team has that level of talent

I absolutely hate that I think you are probably at least somewhat right about that.

It’s frustrating.

I think it’s partly that and partly that shooting 25+ 3s as a minimum every game just goes against Cals foundational style beliefs bc he’s never really trusted the analytics. So the second he has any reason to revert…he does.

You don’t have tk go full on analytics and jack only 3s or layups but the way we played the first 7 games shooting less than 8% mid range was about as perfect offensively as you could play.

That’s EXACTLY what RUINED that 2015 team! First 1/3 of the year, we were blowing everyone out, playing a freelance offensive flow. As the season went on, Cal made us play slower and slower until we were at a crawl and posting the ball every single possession. Remember what he said? If you don’t post the ball every possession, you’re coming out.

Go back and watch the difference from beginning of season until late season. The difference is unreal. He repeatedly stated we wanted to play a halfcourt game with that team. Mostly so he could get KAT drafted #1 IMO. 🙄

He can play however he wants. Edwards won’t be top 10 if he’s unguarded. 🤣

That’s good honestly but we don’t need to grind it out unless that’s the style of play the other team uses. We should push the pace in every game.

Cal needs to burn the shot clock so he can figure out what to do on the next possession he thinks so slow. That’s generally why coaches want to slow any game down so they have more time to think. Slow thinker cal. That’s why he only has one title. Coaches with ncaaT titles multiple titles are great at adjusting on the fly. Forget that with cal. He’s washed at uk.
