Cal: Kentucky coming back with a vengeance in NCAA’s

Sure seems like Cal is awfully nervous. Naming captains, talking about mindset, vengeance, talking up the team on how they’ve responded when everyone thinks they’re down. Really seems like Cal is terrified and needs his team to get tough. Hope he isn’t doing the opposite and making them overly tense. Could be really detrimental. They need to play loose and not over think.

If only words equated to actions.

Their mindset is totally wrong

Their mindset should lead to actions of hard work before and during the games

Whatever sports book or sports counselor Cal is reading or listening too, stinks!!!

If it makes him change his ways and UK wins because of it, I don't care how he gets his motivation. The man needs to change, and he knows his ass is on the HOT SEAT this year if he gets canned in the 1st game in back to back seasons.

Will it matter? No clue.

Just had me thinking when the last time we lost in back to back years in the first round of NCAA...81 (UAB) 82 (Middle Tennessee State)..Been a while..As I recall there was alot of heat on Joe B but in 83, got to the Regional FInal against UL in Dream Game.

Just watched the latest episode of the SEC history series. The end is about Oscar and his crying on the court after the Saint Peters upset. I am sure he will be playing hard, but are the others on our team have similar talent and effort? They showed briefly the 2012 team and just think about trying to compare to the current group!

All season I expressed and will continue to express that our current team's starting 5 is not better than a number of other teams but our starting 10 is and I wish we were just all out hell with substitutions, pressing, and wearing down opponents. I doubt Cal will change now but that remains sadly our best advantage. Unfortunately, those others weren't developed during the season as they should have been. We certainly can win a few games but with this team any coach speak is not to be trusted.

Naming a captain is something you do before the ship ever takes off on its journey. Wouldn't that have been the beginning of the season? Ulis must have made that suggestion. Unless Cal's saying that everything up to March doesn't matter, and in THAT CASE I would believe him.

One of those captains you wouldn't want anywhere near the wooden wheel. The other one would be too afraid to board the other ship.

Ware is El Capitan and that’s cash money.

We’re gonna roll. Calipari’s tweak no one is talking about.

Lance coaching up the bench guys as Bench Captain should keep the bench guys in the game and excited when they show the bench.

What he should have been doing at the beginning of the season and all season long is building a successful, cohesive team, with or without naming captains and instilling a winning ATTITUDE in them. Instead, they are fragile, injury prone, and not even making it to practice all of the time, according to Calipari. My observation is that Calipari is not in the right place emotionally or professionally to steer this team in a way that motivates them towards excellence. They should be laser focused on winning this game without all of the usual drama surrounding Calipari's teams. It almost seems like a regurgitation of the same spiel that fans are hearing every year before the NCAA - "Calipari has to rebuild their confidence, a lack of motivation in some players, has to take away their phones, they are listening to outside voices and not to him...."

For once, I would love to hear that this team is locked in and ready to go to battle and WIN the National Championship. That is what every program should reflect and what KY used to convey. He has the talent to win games in the tourney but, from what I am seeing, he is still struggling with internal issues or maybe his own lack of interest. If he is not into winning, he needs to move on and UK needs to move on from him and get a coach who is motivated to win games and not just create millionaires. Sorry but, I am getting too old to have to sit through another effortless, scared performance because the coaches are caught up in drama and putting out fires instead of building a winning team. I am ready to move on.

I’m probably just being negative but I’m sensing a very nervous energy around the entire program about this game lol. This might be disaster.
Nah, it's serious nervous energy. That's what I sense anyhow. Cal needs get his ass in a tanning bed or get a spray tan because he looking like a ghost 👻. He looks like it in media sessions, on the sidelines and idk if he just pale or if he scared but I would bet it has more to do with his anxiety.

I definitely think he's struggling with this team and they just aren't very good. But that's ultimately still his fault.

WHY is it ALWAYS our opponents that are the teams that are RARING AND READY TO GO???!!!!

I am SOOOOO tired of our team playing SCARED!!! What has happened to Cal's "Us against the world" attitude??!!!

We used to be the team that came into a game and TOTALLY intimidated our opponent, not any more. We had players that were HUNGRY to show the world, "WE ARE KENTUCKY"!!! AND that NO TEAM was going to take away what we got!!!

Now, we have kids with such FRAGILE EGO'S that Cal has to constantly entice them into playing the way they should. It's MIND BOGGLING to think a kid playing basketball for UK would LACK the confidence needed to succeed.

To be fair to the team, it’s kind of hard to not be nervous when the fallout from a loss will be so severe.
Will it though?
I mean, sure there would be a LOT of pi$$ing and moaning here. Heck, I'll be one of them. But, in reality what would change? Calipari has a contract that ensures he'll be at UK as long as he wants. Even another 1st round NCAA tournament loss won't change that.
