Briscoe

Indeed. Played very aggressively, which ended up causing a couple turnovers when he stepped on the baseline, but I love the energy. Grabbed those boards like an angry scuffling animal. I think Cal called him a "bulldog" which is a good analogy methinks.

Amazing how much better the team as a whole played with Briscoe. Like nite and day.

Murray was off but it happens.

I think Duke is in trouble.

Briscoe brings a toughness to this team that it sorely needs. He is huge because of that and it's also probably why Cal sees so much in him.

Cal loved Bledsoe and I think he feels the same way about Briscoe. Briscoe is just a mad dog and young teams badly need a guy like that.

I wonder if Kentucky has ever had a guard put up 12 rebounds in his career debut?

Where is that Kansas idiot that loves to rag on Briscoe?

Briscoe is going to be an important player for us this year. I'm going to pick him now as the key player in the Duke game if he can defend and shutdown Allen.

He is also gone after this year. Grown man body and a pro mentality - he's gone even if he's a second rounder.

I just cant get over how skilled and athletic Kentucky is yet again.

Enjoy this time people because Kentucky is at the height of their dominance.....

Sure you can argue late 40s early 50s and 90s but with another FF and title this year that would make 5 FF and 2 titles in but 6 yrs.

Come tourney time this UK team will be heavy favs to cut em down if we are not already.

His rebounds were from good positioning and he is strong. NJIT was not crashing the boards so we will learn a lot more next week.

So much swagger. His game last night was controlled mayhem. If he can keep that up, just one more reason we can be scary good.

I love Briscoe - although I admit once or twice I had a Goodwin flashback for a second. But really looking at what he was doing - it wasn't out of control at all, as you said. He's going to make this season a whole lotta fun.

Briscoe will be able to play pg. when Ullis has problems with bigger guards. He is much better player than I though he would be this early. His outside shot looked much better last night. We have some really good guards.

Yes. At least for this night he looked like Goodwin...but under control.

Seems apparent that Cal is getting through to him, and it has to help that he has two other elite PGs playing beside him.

Goodwin always tried to do to much, sometimes out of necessity. But there's no reason for Briscoe to try to do that.

There ain't no way Briscoe is a 2nd rounder ever. Dude will be a top 20 pick like all the mocks have him. He is a pro in everything but shooting and that is much improved. He will never shoot 45% from 3 but in the high 30's is fine .

One thing that can probably help briscoe as a shooter too is he seems to fade away even when open (willis used to do this but reportedly fixed it this off season, and seems to be lights out now), if he can learn to jump straight up and down it should raise his percentages slightly.

My knock on Briscoe is that he isn't one and done, not that he doesn't have future NBA talent. He stepped up for Kentucky last night when Ulis and Murray were struggling and gave your team energy. He did have four turnovers and was 1 of 4 (25%) from three which are in line with my observations. Sample size of one game and nothing but improvement expected between now and tourney time.

If your opinion is needed, it will be given to you...

I love Briscoe's game and attitude. If he keeps hitting that jumper, he'll be a load to handle.

He's one of my favorite cats on this years squad. 12 boards! :sunglasses:

Yeah - I normally can't stand the charge-with-head-down-and-pray-for-fouls type of guards -

I appreciated Goodwin as a young man who chose the cats and who had talent, but there is nothing that sucks the fun out of basketball for me like watching a player whose offensive strategy doesn't actually involve attempting to put the ball in the basket - much like flopping, I see it as trying to win on a technicality instead of on skill.

Announcers call it "creating contact".. it makes me want to change the channel.

Attempting to finish through contact, on the other hand, is admirable. And Briscoe goes for the latter. And it's exciting to watch.

You can tell Cal loves Briscoe as a player and person. I think he sees himself in Briscoe a little. Any time anyone in the media brings his name up Cal can't help but smile.

During the halftime interview last night he seemed disappointed in how we were playing and then they mentioned Briscoe and his demeanor changed instantly.

Yes. Same way he was about Bledsoe. I was at the coach's clinic before the Wall/Bledsoe year and Cal just raved about Bledsoe in a way that I really haven't seen him do with another player.

I think he likes the fact that they're mad dogs. Briscoe is a straight killer...but I think we're going to be really frustrated with him in some games this year. Murray as well. Those guys are going to go through times where they press a little, and I think this will be more evident in tougher games where the intensity is on high. But I think by the end of the year their hard-headed alpha-ness will be exactly what a tournament team needs.

these descriptions of Briscoe could also be used with Alkins
If Briscoe does leave after 1 year.......could Monk & Alkins play together

Briscoe was excellent last night, without question. 12 rebounds? Are you kidding me? That's nuts. I love his tenacity, his grit, and his will to win. He's as strong a competitor as we've had at UK in a long time. He hates to lose, and I love it! He's not likely to beat you shooting the 3 but he didn't settle for threes last night either. He stepped in and hit a couple sweet mid-range jumpers.

And he can defend bigger guys if needed because of his strength and tenacity. He's an excellent complement to Ulis and Murray. He's going to get steals and he's going to defend and rebound. He frees up Murray to score and Ulis to distribute. I love this kid.

What I love about Briscoe is he's so unique in today's era. Most guards want to be high flyers or big time shooters. Not briscoe. He hit the weights and became a line backer with the ball in his hands, refuses to wear baggy shorts, and posts up weaker defenders AS A GUARD. He gets it. Most people trying to defend him have had to figure out who to go over or under a screen against or how to defend someone so quick but never how to defend a guy who's going to post you up or out muscle you to the basket and then STILL be capable of shooting the rock if you slack off.

Again, just by him being an anomaly and wearing shorts that go above his knees speaks volumes to his character to me. He's an against the grain type of guy. He's going to rub a LOT of teams wrong this year and I can't wait. Reminds me of a Jamont Gordon who uses to kick our butts back in the Gillespie days.

Wish he was a few inches taller, would be a perfect person to stick on Ingram tomorrow. At 6'3", Ingram, who is 6'9", will just be able to shoot over top of him.
