Why did Stoops not Bring him back as OC for the rest of the season?

Yeah, but he’s better than the one in the chair now

Would be amazing and is exactly what we need. The same vocal portion of the fanbase that ran him off would basically riot. So unfortunately i don't think it happens.

Maybe i should say fortunately it wont happen. Fortunately for him. I say that because i remember how embarrassed and disappointed id be in our fans because after games hed literally have some fans yelling very insulting and offensive things at him on the walk to the locker room.

Because Gran doesn't want the stress of being a full time coach.

I don’t know about you but the offense I’ve been watching has EG written all over it.

From bringing in GW in the first place, to running some Wildcat QB, now the push to start GW. Lack of consistent passing. No interest in getting a future passing QB some reps, again why do that when you can run with an athletic transfer QB?

Ya boy is ghost writing this offense and probably has been to some degree with every offense since he “stepped down…was relieved” whatever…

Him, Marrow, Stoops…the band never broke up

LC, Scang, and Hamden…OCs in name only.

Boise improved when our coordinator left. Everyone that leaves Stoops does much better at their next stops. Gran was let go for a reason. His best offense was #84 in the nation in PPG. He scored 25 PPG in his best season and that just doesn't cut it. It takes close to 30 PPG to sniff the top 25.

The thing I liked most about EG was his ability to adjust his scheme to fit his personnel. He did it mid season after QB was injured for rest of the season!!!

Gran knew his style was being used against UK in recruiting, and I think he and Stoops both knew they needed a reset to try and break through some glass ceilings.

Coen, Levis, Robinson, plus many players with the Gran/Schlarman mentality were the perfect mentality for UK success.

Gran is an unassuming guy, but he deserves much more credit for our past success than he’s given credit for by our fanbase.

I don’t know anything about Hamdan, but he would be a smart man if he asked Gran to help/mentor him. Gran has successfully coached the run/shoot and the ground/pound!

I think a lot of football people that respect Gran do so for the way he did what he had to do to win. He adapted to his personnel on multiple occasions. He got UK to 6-7 wins on several occasions, when making a bowl game was huge for UK. Most OCs could not have won after dealing with some QB injuries Gran dealt with.

I agree with your assessment that staying with that style could not lead UK to consistently break through the SEC mid tier teams. That’s the reason for the change. Winning in the SEC requires good QB play, and we were struggling to recruit QBs.

However, I do believe Gran would have won a couple more games with this talent/team.

We’re fans! We were ready to break glass and change our system a few years ago to have a chance at climbing another rung on the SEC ladder. Today, we’re ready to tie a lifeline on our current rung and hope we don’t slide back down to the bottom, or begin the climb back to the middle.

It’ll be an interesting offseason. I don’t think Stoops leaves. He’ll know much of his legacy will be riding on next year. I don’t know if an OL can be fixed in 1 year, thus requiring next year’s OC to be very creative!

I don't understand the infatuation with wanting new OCs.

Yes the OC's can be bad, but Stoops is the BIG Issue. Its Stoops.

When Stoops let Cohen do his thing, we won ten games and beat Penn State.

From what I understand, Stoops is a massive micromanager, which is not healthy.

Stoops has always been the issue.

It doesn't help when we have bad OC's like Hamden and Scangrilla.

Even with winning. It’s embarrassing how many people were mad at 17- 14 wins but are more accepting of 41-33 loss if we throw for 250+

Only allowed 10 on field coaches of which Gran is not one so a coach would have to be removed and Gran installed in order for Gran to call plays. Gran has long history of producing some of the top RBs to have ever played in the SEC. Even when he was removed from UK OC, I don't know why he wasn't retained as RB coach.

I’m sure Stoops will make a coaching decision after the season, but it won’t be the OC. It will be the assistant WR coach or his brother might move on. He is going to give Hamden another shot, and if nothing changes then he is out.
