Boogie Cousins

Fans that think they can throw shit on people or spit on them deserve every thing they get when they catch an ass whipping like this.

Yep. We’re all just people in the end. This is “keyboard warrior syndrome” spilling over into real life. Need to treat each other with respect regardless of socio-economic status or whatever else. I truly believe the internet and social media is responsible for 95% of this behavior. Call me a boomer if you want (I’m not, I’m 41) but all I know is when I was growing up, people (mostly) thought before they acted.

People on Reddit are saying he got booted after grabbing his genitalia and rubbing the hand in a fan’s face 😂😂 Haven’t seen video of that yet, but people are swearing Boogie was the instigator. And look who got the brunt of it, what looks to be a team employee and an officer on security detail. This ain’t lookin like a good look.

This was an elimination game for Cousins team for playoff contention, playing against the #1 team featuring Danilo Gallinari, Chris Duarte, and Javale McGee. Cousins joined the team in May when they were 7-9; Mets de Guaynabo finished 2-9 after the addition of Cousins and have now missed the playoffs.

Edit: Ok so the video above is a way better angle than what I saw. Idk, he makes first contact by reaching up into the stands. Not good. Of course I personally say screw those guys, like do you have any idea who you are messing with? Yeah this is real life, that’s not a 2K character. He doesn’t have an NBA reputation to protect anymore like what did people think was gonna happen!!??

Can’t say I’m shocked. The Puerto Rican league has long been known for volatile fans, and Boogie has been known for being a volatile personality himself. That combination was bound to result in an incident eventually.

Plenty of blame to go around but definitely looks like Boogie escalated it from words when he grabbed his junk and shoved his hand in a dude's face.

I was at an NBA game several years ago where a woman near court was heckling him every trip down, and he's just totally pulled out of the game, yelling back at her, distracted as the action is going the other direction. Dude never was able to grow up and manage his anger.

He is not a good representative for UK.

I like Cousins, but he should probably hang it up. He has been playing pro ball way too long to get upset over minor league fans heckling him. He’s a very emotional thinking person (think back to that discussion he had with Rondo when Cal left) and leaves reason behind.

Boogie is my fav from the Cal era but he has to relax . Fans are going to taunt and that’s how this started lol .

It escalated in the tunnel.

Here is what started it.

Jeez, I know the fan probably said something awful, but hard to imagine any words that could justify that reaction from Boogie. There’s a HUGE difference between trash talking a fan and rubbing your balls and jabbing your hand in his face.

Following Boogie’s career has been a trip. One minute you’re loving him, the next you’re cringing at him.

Yea I absolutely love Cousins. Still do. But that interview with Rondo made me realize a lot of things about Cousins and everything that was wrong with the Cal era. Cousins really showed low IQ in that interview. Almost if he is a little slow. Still love him but that is why I always say Rondo would be a great addition to UK basketball. He understands the history and has real love for Kentucky. Cousins loves Kentucky because we treated him and the rest like superstars. He really believes Cal is bigger than the University of Kentucky and Rondo shut him up quick with facts!

You just can't shake your junk at a guy and continue to talk shit to him. Argue with hecklers if you want, but leave it at words. Not a good reaction with women and children around. Pretty childish / immature action really. he just could never get over the hot headed syndrome. He HAS TO BE bipolar or something. He makes Metta World Peace (or whatever he calls himself now days) look like a choir boy. He and Draymond Green probably suffer from the same illness, I know MWP is bipolar, I have to believe them two are also.

Officially suspended for the rest of the year .

That might have been his last professional game of his career . I hope it doesn’t mess up what he had going on in the media space .

I'd love to see how all you saints would react if a grown man told you to suck his ying yang, called you a racial slur, and told you to effing die for a full game from five feet away, because that's exactly what fans get to do now.

I don't justify his behavior, but I bet some of you would be pulling out guns at traffic light stops for far less. We gave MJ and Kobe a pass for cheating on their wives repeatedly, but at least they "kept their composure" while doing it.

At any rate, let's keep piling on so we can sound objective and stuff...

Boogie obviously started it. The footage makes it pretty clear. Come on, be honest with yourselves. We all know what kinda guy he is.
So you sat beside that fan all game and knew that he just quietly sat on his hands for the full game, and Boogie just randomly did that? There's no justifying what Boogie did, but it might help to try to at least understand why he did what he did.

And I also don't know what type of guy he is personally. Do you?

Here's the thing.. Boogie played, what 300ish NBA games, without anything like THIS happening with a fan? Now that doesn't mean he isnt a different person since then, maybe not in a good place mentallty.. but this tells me this fan who is COURTSIDE was likely saying some pretty nasty stuff to make even Cousins act the way he did. And you can see that very fan tried to get back in his face, so its not like the fan was surprised. He knew what he was doing.

Basketball is such an oddly intimate sport with the fans. No other sport does the crowd really get to directly interact with the players. But in both NBA and college, the fans are right there, whether its courtside, or behind the bench, or in a fanzone. Every other game these players have an opposing fanbase screaming at them as they inbounds the ball or dive into the stands. Im surprised there aren't more issues snd I applied the players for mostly being level-headed. Like SOS said above, we'd rage out for far less in our own personal lives.

Boogie get heckled, grabbed his junk at the fan, exchanged some hands, no one was actually hurt ot struck.. idk this is such a non-factor to me and its silly to see Cousins get suspended for this. That fan should be banned, if thats the case.

300 games? That's not even 4 full seasons. He's played in more than twice that without any incidents like this one. Over 650 games.

I figured it was probably more, but we're making the same point. Not really any large issues during his entire career.

He has had some dustups with players. He's got a history with Pat Beverly and some past coaches like George Karl.. but neither of those guys are saints either.

Boogie is just kind of an immature hothead, but one who has yet to really cross any glaring line.

What you do is act like a professional. The guy in the stands is a bum. No need to stoop down to his level. Most UK fans love Boogie. I do too but this is a complete bush league move and he may never draw another pro pay check after this. He deserves whatever fallout happens from this.

He just has a bad rep and it's pretty much uncalled for. I mean not everyone can be a saint like Grayson Allen 🙄 /s

I was gonna say, hes not like Grayson Allen or Draymond Green. Not getting arrested like Gilbert Arenas or KPJ. Not starting brawls like Ron Artest..

He doesn't have to sit quietly. He can boo and yell insults all he wants. He paid admission. By all appearances, Cousins made it physical. He did it because he's immature and there's a lifetime of ejections, technical fouls, interviews and personal legal problems to verify that.

That being said, I like Cousins. I hope he does at some point grow up because I think there's a good guy in there. But he's almost middle aged and still having meltdowns like this.

This is how Steve Kerr talks about Draymond after he gets ejected for kicking a guy in the balls
