What rule was the NCAA enforcing against Penn State for having a pedophile on their campus?? Not saying Penn State shouldn't have been slammed, just wondering why Bilas has turned into a cyborg rule fool and the NCAA always seems to find a way around the rules when they choose to. Guess it is not against their rules and values to create fake classes to keep athletes eligible.
"There has been much speculation on whether or not the NCAA has the authority to impose any type of penalty related to Penn State,” said Ed Ray, Executive Committee chair and Oregon State president. “This egregious behavior not only goes against our rules and Constitution, but also against our values.”

Yep bilas is right once again. Penn State did things against the law so ummmmm yeah there is a slight difference

Well, what needs to happen now, is that every University in the country needs to set up some fake classes, such as these, and steer their athletes to them. Oh yes, have some regular students take them as well. What can the NCAA do? Nothing, now that they have set the precedent. Every school can keep marginal student athletes eligible, and just thumb their noses at the NCAA. Just a paper tiger, with no teeth, or conviction.

This is just ridiculous! Let's be real clear...NCAA only uses rule book selectively. They've punished schools before with no stated rules. Bottom line is it's UNC & they're not going to EVER do anything to Duke or UNC for ANYTHING....EVER!

I guess Syracuse should be receiving an apology any day now from NCAA.

Bilas also said winning the ACCT was harder than winning the FF. So, he's full of it. If this had been any number of other schools, he would have led the charge to punish them.
He is just a lot of talk.
Yep. Spent a week arguing DOOK deserved a #1 seed. Bilas also is the Einstein who spent months lobbying for DOOKIE Okafor to be drafted #1 instead of Karl Anthony Towns. He's an ACC hack.

Serious question. Suppose UK wanted to set up the EXACT same system that UNC employed for decades, calling it AFAM studies, etc. Could they get away with it today? If not, this is a big effing bag of flaming dogsh*t.

Unfortunately Bilas is right, it is a technicality, that UNCheat took full advantage of. Now the NCAA will have to change their rule book so other University can't do the same.

Was bringing in prostitutes for recruits in the rule book? Didn't think so. Nothing in the Penn St case was in the rule book. Or was the problem there that Penn St didn't fight it, they really couldn't fight it because of the nature of the issue (raping minors).

I have wondered for years why Bilas would support such a ludicrous & frankly ridiculously ignorant argument for UNCC's blatant cheating. While I have never bought his BS about most things I never really thought him to be lacking intelligence.

It dawned on me a few nights ago that perhaps the reason is because his beloved Coach K and Duke have been doing the exact same thing for years? Hmmm that would explain his vigor in defense of the cheaters now wouldn't it..

Which has absolutely zero to do with the defense.

The cases also occurred in two different states.

Basketball and football are two different sports.

Any other irrelevant differences?

Alright then. The "strictly abiding by the rulebook" defense applies in both cases. If that is the one and only standard, then you're special pleading to appeal to legal status.

There is no specific rule about pedophiles either but that didn't keep the NCAA from slamming Penn State. There are vague rules about institutional control that the NCAA uses selectively on other schools not named Duke and UNCheat. Bilas is not right, he's just biased.

Then why did they stop the classes!!?? Every school in the country should start the same classes and dare the ncaas to do something about them.

In short--you don't have to have a brain to see what they're doing.

UNC admin: We better put some non-athletes in so they don't suspect anything.
NCAA: Well, they had non-student athletes, so it's believable

This is the same as telling your kid they can't do something, then they do it. Then they explain to you how it wasn't really what you told them not to do.

"You said not to pet the cat. I didn't. I rubbed it.'

The NCAA is hearing that and saying it sounds legit. Pathetic.

Ask Penn State about what's in a "cough" rule book.

Bilas is a moron and is shady af. So is y'alls boy Matt Jones who is repeating the same nonsense. They played ineligible players for 2 decades but there ain't a rule? They had unauthorized grade changes to keep athletes eligible and there aint a rule? They had tutors wroting papers, but there aint a rule? GTFOH!
