Better get ready for no season

UConn should have cancelled their season even if there wasn’t a pandemic.

UConn needs to drop to the FCS. Even in normal times, it's tough to survive in the FBS without being in a conference, even if it's something like the MAC or Sunbelt. It's brutal if you're an independent not named Notre Dame and you're in the middle of a recruiting wasteland like Storrs.

I bet NEW Mexico State drops football or goes to FCS after this. They too are independent.

IIRC they are on our 2021 schedule.

The "virus" is now causing me to like posts from Kyle and occasionally a U6 fan. Strange times, but at least we'll have football, whether the virus fans like it or not. If they don't like it, they can stay home, stay safe, and socialist distance and enjoy their satanic new normal. And they can also keep parroting that "we're all in this together" (hilarious, by the way).

Every time things look good for UK, something jumps up and bites them in the behind.
With UK a threat to win the East, unless they are hit with the bug or injury to main players, canceling the season would be natural occurrence.

I remember the good old days when it was the us vs. terrorist. what ever happened to those fellas? the terrorism tactic worked well for awhile. seems like the Rona is gonna do the job even better. good news is most of the sheeple have went to the other side!!!!
Well, look at the bright side, maybe the Rona will significantly thin the terrorist numbers as well.

The problem with playing the games will be false positives. Even if the false positive rate is only 1%, if you test the whole team, coaches and support staff before leaving for a game, you are likely to get one false positive even if no one has the virus. If one positive test is cause for quarantining the team, it's going to be difficult to get through a 10 game schedule without missing some games even if no one is infected. I am not a pessimist , i have just had too many statistics courses.

Uconn has zero to do with what happens next. People like the OP are annoying, but there are enough of them that will amp up the pressure so that I too fear that football won't happen. University presidents hate bad press and they hate liability, and it seems like corona bros and potential legal action mean lots of both.

I hope that I'm wrong. We need football.

There's a lot of reasons football probably doesn't happen this fall. States are already starting to push fall sports to the spring, and smaller FBS divisions (along with FCS and smaller) are currently talking about doing the same with decisions happening soon.

It's not like P5 schools have immunity, they are just willing to risk more because the amount of money at stake is so much more at their level.

Every campus is going to be one big Petri dish. Some players will get sick and return within two weeks no worse for wear, but there's going to be others like Xavier Thomas who are going to deal with it in at last the medium term if not longer (some could be Eduardo Rodriguez). I wouldn't think many parents want to roll the dice on their kid being in the latter groups. Not to mention older coaches or their own families they could bring it back to.

I hope we have a season, but it's hard to think odds are much better than a coin flip we get through 10-11 games. Pointing that out as a fan is reasonable, and doesn't increase the pressure. Pointing that out doesn't change the nature of the virus. It already is what it is.

Clarify. Which part is "unfortunate?" Too much money? The fact that they will play?
It is unfortunate because if player's health was the only consideration they would not play. The schools realize they need the money and have 85 scholarship players, so if 40 get sick they can field a team. No one knows the long term effect of covid so the schools are gambling with the health of players to make money and football fans will watch because it's not their health being risked.
