Yeah we all thought that in 2019 when Tennessee had their best team in forever… and we still went further in the tournament than them. I expect more of the same this year.
I mean if you played the game all the way through college it’s pretty easy to see what Coach runs the best stuff and is more disciplined. Cal doesn’t know what a hard hedge is… the value of drawing charges in the College game … the concept of working on dead ball out of bounds plays.

2 of the 3 were road losses to two of the best teams in the league. Had a chance to beat Arkansas. Shot like crap yesterday and still fought back and got it to 3 but let an easy rebound get away.
bottom line is, this has been a fun and likable team to watch. If you can’t enjoy it, maybe you are the problem.
I've enjoyed this team more than any since 2015 but we still have 7 losses and are not playing well the last month of the season. We didn't win the regular season or SEC Tournament again. No 1 seeds or F4's since 2015. Sub .500 against the top 25 since 2015. I'm sorry but this is UK. We don't accept moral victories here. Maybe you are the problem with accepting mediocrity.
Don't agree with this. The problem with Cal is the way his roster is put together. Give Barnes 12 new players every year and most of the don't match the system you are running and I bet Barnes wouldn't win 10 games. Roster management is where Cal is failing. He has too many pieces that don't really fit together. And nobody on the current roster fits the half court slog fest that Cal wants to play.
Who you going to get to replace Cal? Sweathog pearl? Lost. Musselman? Lost. Oats? Lost. Flavor of the month last year, Beard? Didn’t do so well at texas.
Every Coach gets beat. CAL while the savior for KY 13 seasons ago is now becoming a liability for not being ahead of the curve being set in his ways and putting everything other then winning titles first.
So which is it? If Barnes allows UK to come back like they did is it because Cal can actually coach or Barnes gamelan starts falling apart?

True but we can see the same physical game plan. If we don't start playing through contact, our path forward will depend on refs willing to blow the whistle several times on the other team. Not a given
So set in his ways he changed his recruiting strategy and his coaching staff? What else would you like to see him change.
Install some dead ball inbounds plays install some offensive sets. Recruit 13 scholarship players that can contribute on the court so he has options if guys are or having issues. . Develop a deep bench change up defenses to protect players that are in fouls trouble or can’t guard man to man. Press teams to speed up the game when we all know this team is better playing uptempo then a half court rock fight.For all the changes he has made he is still not changed any X’s and O’s just how he is getting his Jimmy and Joes
What are you talking about we have a losing record against UNC, Duke, Kansas and Barnes the last 7 years, not to mention the top 20.
Why do so many think this? Cal is leaving one day and many act like the university that has won a title with 5 different coaches is going to be unable to get a quality coach. Also how many coaches currently have the luxury of coaching at a blue-blood like UK? UK also elevates the coach. If coaches at Wannabe U could win like they were at UK, Duke, Kansas, etc., then they wouldn’t be wannabe U.
UK is going to be hurting when Cal does leave but not because he cannot be replaced. His roster management is absolutely going to leave the next coach with nothing.
Cal is not getting the abundance of quality players he did in the first half of his tenure and that is what separated him. He did not get that abundance of talent at UMass or Memphis thus his record was not what it was at UK. Cal said it himself—UK enables him to get the best of the best.
Yes, UK will get a good coach after Cal. And if you know our history it goes like this.

Because that past is indicative of what must happen. I would say Cal first half of tenure great second half good.
This is what annoys the hell out of me! Why don’t we ever run OOB plays?! Why don’t we ever hedge out against the ball handler?! Trap against the ball handler?! Run a zone on the opposition OOB?! Run a zone in the half court to stop dribble penetration?! Set cross screens for our bigs?! Have our guards cut back door off of screens?! Set multiple screens to free up our best shooters?!
We run such a simplistic offense and are very easy to game plan against. Our guys need to be moving the entire possession, because we really don’t have anyone that can straight up beat their man to the rack, create their own shot, etc. Instead, we end up with an 18 foot brick from Wheeler 79-80% of the time. 🥴
