Barnes Chokes Again!!!

no but ill take what cal’s done over what barnes has done and you would to no matter losing to st peters.
Cal makes $9 million + a year to perform better than Barnes in the tourney. Choked against Auburn in the Elite 8, worst season in UK history, followed by the worst loss in UK history. He’s on a fast moving downward slope.

Serious question and not confrontational intended.
What did Barnes do, or not do, to choke and lose the game?
Played Vescovy and Floppy Fulkerson too many minutes. Should have played Chandler and Minnie Mouse with the pigtails more. Vescovy couldn't buy a basket.
Also went away from Jordan Josiah Jones and Michigan had no one who could guard him.

Barnes also pulled a Cal and stopped trying to get runouts and ground the offense to a halt and played through Plavsic and Fulkerson instead of Chandler and James.

The only difference between Cal and Barnes is the color of their eyebrows.

It certainly didn't take long for him to remove his name from consideration of a NCAA Tournament run. It never does. Needed to be there for Calipari's house warming party in Nashville.

2007- Tennessee blows 20 point halftime lead in Sweet 16 to Ohio State

2009- Oklahoma State hits 3 pointer with 7 Seconds Left to Bounce Vols

2010- Foul with 2 seconds left costs Tennessee 1 Pt Loss to Michigan State at Elite 8

2014- Tennessee Erases 14 Point Deficit but Michigan squeaks win by 2 in Sweet 16

2018- Tennessee Draws Team of Fate Loyola who hits jumper with 5 seconds left to win by 1

2019-Tennessee erases 14 Point Deficit to Purdue, Takes 3 Point Lead with 1:00 left, loses in OT in Sweet 16

2022- Tennessee blows 85% chance to win with 8 mins left, scores only 8 in last 8 minutes to lose to Michigan

not disagreeing with you on his failed success just saying if barnes had his record at kentucky you would be singing a different tune.

I appreciate you bringing the pain - different collection of coaches, but yes - we can’t get over the hump. Will be a glorious day when it happens though.

I’ll defend him on this game - thought UT played hard and seemed to be prepared. Barnes can’t be held for missing wide open threes just before half and throughout the second half. Michigan hit unbelievable shots and played hard, and hit their free throws.
Ha ha Goodbye to floppy top.

Glad utee is still tournament sucking. Hope you have to wait another 30 years to win another sec tournament.

I don’t know what it is about the NCAA Tournament, but Barnes is an excellent coach during the season. But even with the NCAA disappointment (again!) this year, his team can be proud that they won the SEC Tournament. I don’t buy that it “doesn’t matter.” It matters to the team and it certainly matters to the fans.

Not a bad analysis - cannot disagree with you on the main points. Still wish we had hit half of those open threes…

We wish that we could have hit 30% of ours against St. Peter's.......or 70% of our FT in OT.....if If's and Buts were candy and nuts, it would be Christmas every day.

When those things are not happening, it is up to the coach to put somebody else in the game or try something different on offense or defense.

At least Barnes will play a zone and has a handful of out of bounds plays. Be thankful for that.

Barnes will get over the hump eventually. He is a damn good coach but he just recruits differently.

Are you joking
Until winning the SEC Tournament this year, the last time Rick Barnes won a tournament of any sort was the 1994 Big East Tournament with Providence.

Nothing at Clemson, and not a single Big XII Tournament title during his 17 years as Texas coach. Also nothing during 7 years at Tennessee until this season.

Say what you will about his success against Cal, but Barnes is perhaps the worst tournament coach of all-time.

People here aren't really envious of Barnes. They just love to throw anybody and everybody at Cal because they are so butt hurt.
No. UK fans are tired of a recycled mediocre coach outcoaching and beating our $8M dollar man, and then hugging and kissing him and telling our fans how much he hates to coach against friends.

Well good news Cal. You have done very little coaching against Barnes and your record against him shows it.

It's a sad sad day when Tennessee losing doesn't bring me immense joy. Still just too damn bummed out about where we are at. And frankly Barnes has made Calipari his bitch. It's embarassing and unnacceptable.

I sometimes wish we'd hire Barn's or Oats so some of these clowns would feel what real basketball pain feels like.

Barnes is not a great tournament coach and never has been. TX has a lot of resources and he did fine enough there with 1 Final Four and 2 additional Elite 8s, but with some of his talent some think he should have a won a title at some point. He was only capable of taking Durant to the 2nd round for goodness sake. This year's team should have made a Sweet 16 minimum but I think Nova would have beat them this week.

He has certainly had the upper hand against Calipari since being at TN, but people should still be allowed to talk about other programs without every thread coming back to Cal/UK.

He better hurry if he is going to get over the hump. Hasn't made it in about 40 years of coaching and looks like he is about 65 years old.

Edit. Looked it up. Barnes is 67. Yeah, dude better hurry it up for real.

I appreciate kids like Ziegler - diamond in the rough, gritty NYC kid that was on his way to a mid major school until he was noticed at an AAU tournament. You can’t base a whole team on this type of recruit, but you can take one like this every now and then.
