Here's some of the best posts:
"They'll beat this Hog team by 15+ at Rupp. They hit the nail on the head about what we're financially stuck with until he retires."

"Cal completely relies on his player's individual talent on both ends of the court, and if they can't produce turnovers or scoring (off the dribble drive, three pointers, or freaking free stinking throws), there simply ain't gonna be any "set play" forthcoming that'll save this team of individuals. Daylight is burning for them to prove me wrong. I pray they will."

"I expect many talented players on the court, but the coaching I've seen has been mediocre. Cal's teams came in here plenty of times and beat our good teams, so it will be fun to watch, but the honeymoon is about over, and Cal will have to prove he's not what the Kentucky fans say he is. I still think he can."

Quote from: ErieHog on November 28, 2024, 04:00:17 PMIllinois will spend most of this season ranked. Let's not pretend this is nobody we're playing.

"Yes, aaaand half the SEC is way better that Illinois SO if we continue to play like this against any good team we play, well we wont be ranked.,...We may win, but C'mon this isnt a great example of an great team.."

"Cal can't be bothered to wear red on national TV."

"This is embarrassing. These guys are going to score a hundred on us today."

"No shooters on the roster except Z."

"It would be awesome if Davis wasn't such an unbelievable bust. He's just awful in every phase of the game."

"He has a national championship and a host of Final Four banners, and hundreds of wins. You'd be wrong."

"I am not thankful for this team."

"Cal is a lousy basketball coach. Always has a bench full of top talent but has very little to show for it. Welcome to Kentucky."

"I'm thankful for 200+ other channels and bourbon."

"We got outplayed and outcoached."

"Probably our best player, but Theiro is incredibly selfish. Down double digits and instead of finding three opportunities, he's focused on driving and getting to the line so he can miss a few more free throws."

"It was fun being ranked for a bit! Back to real world now."

"It gets really tiring watching our guys brick every three they're shooting year after year while everybody else in the country shoot lights out from behind the line."

Here's the MdWildcat, circa 2021-24 of their message board:
"This team is fine. If you haven't seen any ugly spots for the Illini, you haven't been watching all that closely. Jackuconis has been lax with the basketball, they've had stretches where they have attacked the rim very poorly-- they could have easily put this thing away by trying to get to the line earlier. We fouled way too much early, but managed to not develop serious foul trouble-- that kind of lack of aggression will lose them a game later this year. When they have got to the line, they have been every bit as bad as we have. What they did right? Few live ball turnovers, a fast start, and then shooting the hell out of the 3."

"Cal need to quit politician..and coach. This team does not put out the effort to win."

"There's no excuse for letting a team shoot that great from 3. This on Cal."

"There is an odd coldness to this team. Very businesslike. Lacking passion. Not lacking effort necessarily, just no passion. Feels like an NBA team, not upset by losing. Even our bad teams with Mike Anderson you could tell the players were pissed losing. Everyone on the bench smiling and laughing. Games don't matter to them."

The most insightful post on their message board. Feels like our last four or five teams under Calipari:

He can’t sell playing for Arkansas like he could Kentucky. I at least always felt like our players gave effort. Rob was a lotto pick and competed his ass off last year and looked pissed every time we lost.

And when i’ve watched Arkansas i’ve thought similar things to what that guy said. Other than Thiero, they just don’t appear to be playing with much fire or enthusiasm.

He can’t get guys hyped about playing for Arkansas like that. And maybe it’s because he can’t get hyped to coach at Arkansas. He knows he took a massive step down. Cal is an emotional dude. So i’m sure that’s effected his energy, which was already waning.

Cal is who he is. He’s not changing. Cal did a lot of great things here on the court and off the court but it was obvious the game passed him by. It’s a breath of fresh air to have “Kentucky Basketball” back and have a coach who cares about winning. I don’t wish any ill will towards Arkansas except when we play them but I don’t know how long he’s going to last there.

As a former KY fan, their insight only serves to make them feel better about Cal leaving.

Cal fan claims to be a "former UK fan". You, sir, were never a UK fan.

Yep, this was typical of the last 4 seasons under Calipari. People used to say Kentucky was more like an NBA farm team and I always tried to deny it. I was blind to it, perhaps by my own devotion to UK, and also the starry eyes from looking at all those 5-star recruits coming in. But there is no question, Calipari's players come in with NBA promises and they play with one eye on that prize. I'm sure they want to win, but do they have the passion we've seen from players like we've seen in many years from Arkansas? No. If they win, it's look at me. If they lose, it's not a big deal.

I saw a poster arguing about their freshmen not being lottery picks, and I hear a long ago echo of myself. I don't see those guys as lottery picks, either, but NBA teams don't draft on play on the court. They draft on potential and measurables. And Cal pushes them out because that's his pitch to the next class. If he has a bunch of guys stick around extra years, it ruins the gravy train. And these NBA executives know these guys will figure it out eventually. So, there are 2 or 3 who will leave even if the team is just average.

For years we absolutely bristled when fans claimed Cal just rolled the ball out and relied on supreme athleticism, shouting at players to “go make a play”. Year after year UK fans saw this was not an unfair depiction. Without excellent talent and high level assistant coaches, UK struggled under Cal.
Arkansas has neither top tier talent or high level assistants, so instead what they have is a used up husk of a once hungry coach who lacks creativity, is incredibly stubborn, and unable to change.
GO SLEEP IN THAT BED YOU MADE, HOG FANS!!!!!

Under Cal winning doesn't matter, it was and is all about getting to the NBA. Cal turned UK into a G league team when he was here.

I believe Cal steps away from the game soon. He doesn’t have a passion for it any longer. This is now a job and is no longer fun. Money doesn’t matter when you are miserable and it’s clear he is miserable.
But then who would pave the path for “earned not given “ ? If Cals coaching tree wasn’t a utility pole he might have someone.

How do you guys find this stuff? You really spending that much time on other fanbases' message boards combing through threads just so you can say I told you so?

I probably would have a similar take if I had followed Calipari off the cliff like you did until last spring when you finally had a change of heart, only after the Titanic was fully submerged in water.

Better late than never, right?

If it's true that Ellen is in Nashville and not Fayetteville, he won't be there long. I'm not sure if that's true. She's probably in F-ville during the season, but even if so it won't last long if she's in Nashville half the year.
