Arkansas beat Michigan

As far as people caring about Arkansas or not, sure a lot will. Ex coach. Ex players. It's natural to be interested. I watched every second just for the purpose of hoping they would lose. Petty or not I don't care. There may be a game one day that I want them to win but that day hasn't arrived. Wild swing in that game. Arkansas was down 16 and then went up 15.

Pope's my coach too. I'm just passing along statistics. If stats about Arkansas' 3 point shooting aren't to your liking maybe you're the one with an agenda.
I have no agenda.
I watched Wagner start every game last year clanking layups and 3’s while Reed and Dilly came off the bench.

We all know how this will end for Arkansas.

The future for my team KY looks bright!

Arkansas almost completed their meltdown at the end. They were up 76-60 with about 11 minutes to go. The pigs only scored 13 points the rest of the way. Michigan only ended up losing by 2.

Cal needed Fland to make huge plays most of the game. Arkansas won't make it past Sweet Sixteen.
If Fland or Thiero get in foul trouble it’s over for them.

Checking in to see what you fellas are saying about the Piggies.
That crooked nosed dude from MI was unreal. A 7ft point guard. I wish we had someone like him.

We are getting better mainly due to the fact we are getting healthier. They could not stay in front of Fland last night.
Djs best game. If Nelly ever gets rolling watch out. This teams ceiling is high. By conference we will be 100% healthy.

Z just cannot guard. Our D broke down everytime he was in last night. But he was hobbled also. Thiero and Richmond both had the flu.
Brazil won the game.

Going to be a rough year in the SEC.

On a side note, anyone else walk away super impressed with Danny Wolf? If Michigan underperforms this year and he transfers, then I'd love for Pope to pick him up. Seems like a great stretch four. Him and Wilson would be scary!
Dude can play, and handles the ball so well for a 7 footers. Smooth and fluid. Can pass. He would be good in Popes system.

They were a poorly designed 3.7-sec to go play from OT or a loss. Mich was down 18pts and had it in their grasp. The two big white boys were scoring at will. There was no inside defense at all....like Cal coached with us. They got abused and dunked on for the whole second half. They just dug too deep a hole to win. It would have been glorious if that last shot hat fallen or that lob for a dunk not been blocked. Cal sucks but he dodged a bullet.

Arkansas is going to be a tough out. They have a good team. One question with any current Cal team from game to game will be who is hurt and who is not. If they are healthy, they are going to be tough either getting out to a large lead and then holding on or making a big come back. Anyone dismissing them is just not being honest.

It was a typical Cal game. When you shoot well you win. They are very talented but having no offense late in games other than Fland or (insert flavor of the year) dribbling around and then forcing a shot will bite them. That and Cal teams still for whatever reason can't keep anyone from getting straight line drives to the basket.

Cal called that TO toward the end there. He “drew up” a play. Literally all they did was give the ball to Fland for an ISO, highly contested midrange jumper! Lmfao he’s TERRIBLE at strategic basketball! Absolutely horrendous!

Arky has a 7 minute stretch where they made 4-5 three pointers and forced what seemed like a million turnovers.

Once they finally came back down to earth the margin was too great for Michigan but they still almost pulled it out.

It's the same story if the athletes are hitting they are pretty damn good... but usually they are missing more so than not. Hell even Wagner hit two 3's last night

You know. I though...is he just doing this because all of us "Bennies" expect a coach to design something. He has all these assistants around him that apparently do nothing STILL. Dusty would use up his whole timeout huddled up with his assistants and then run over to tell UM what to do. At least he takes suggestions.

Absolutely! He could’ve called that play from the sideline! 🤣

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before-

An uber talented Calipari coached team sprints out to a huge early lead and is cruising just after halftime, but for some reason, they slow the pace way down and try to milk the clock. They begin to tense up, miss a wheelbarrow full of free throws, and grind further until the score ties up. They require a couple of hero plays late to stave off the comeback victory.

Sounds vaguely familiar.
Vaguely.

How Shocking !

The "slow down then tense up" part is the signature. One always followed the other.

Some will say, that's two close wins in a row Cal pulled off. Completely missing that neither one should have had to be a "Close Win" to begin with. Another Cal signature.

The 3 times I’ve seen them Davis has been surprisingly bad. And Fland is their best player, he or Theiro leads in scoring. He took 18 shots last night.
I think their biggest problem, like many Cal teams is they don’t shoot well enough from outside. Don’t count on 2-3 (and a big toe away from 3-4) from Wagner often. Ivisic is their best shooter but is losing minutes now that Aidou is healthier.
The first 2 games I saw, I was surprised that I liked Richmond’s game (except he can’t shoot either), but he only played 1 min last night. But he defends well, plays hard, and can finish.
They will be middle of the pack SEC, which this year isn’t bad, so 2nd round team who could make S16 or 1st rnd loss
This is a good post. If Aidoo can get back to where he was last year (1st team ALL-SEC), combined with the athleticism of Brazile, the Hogs will tough to beat if they shoot the ball reasonably well. I look for them to improve as the season moves along. The SEC, top-to-bottom, is a ridiculously-talented conference this season. Everybody better come to play, especially on the road. GO CATS !!

Here are Arkansas' stats, if interested. I've not watched them very much at all, but the times I've watched them ... they seemed like brick-layers, but their shooting stats are not really that bad ... a very big surprise to me, to say the least.
Still, though, I think they'll struggle mightily against zone defense ... but can regularly get to the rack against m2m.

Just saw the highlights and on one of Michigan's final possessions, their big guy got it in the lane and took 4 or 5 steps with no call. Officiating is garbage.
Refs just mailing it in these days. Half the possessions has some guy trying a Eurostep, or putting the ball on their hip and taking extra steps, or putting their hands under the ball, technically palming it.

That improves the SEC to 5-7 vs B10 this year, with 6 games remaining.
they must be the league's kryptonite as that is over a third of the league's total losses to this point (19 as of 12/10)
I guess Bama has two of those 7 (purdue and oregon)
Arkansas lost to Illinois
Ole Miss lost to Purdue
South Carolina lost to Indiana
Texas lost to Ohio State
Texas AM lost to Oregon

So over half those losses came to their top two teams in Purdue and Oregon.

I'll take that bet, as much as you want. 2 of the 3 are currently below 40% and they haven't dipped their toes in the SEC yet.
I 100% agree with you. Percentages will probably drop for everybody in conference play.
Besides Brea, will we have anyone who shoots 40% for the season ?? I sure hope so, but I'm not sure it will happen ...

Second round at best. This same coach took Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham, brought them off the bench all year long in favor of DJ Wagner, then lost to a middle aged accountant in the first round after refusing to game plan. Fland is great, and I always liked Adou, but that’s all they’ve got

Some of us did like Thiero from the time he signed with UK. Many, however, didn't. I would take him any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I pretty sure this is correct, per my review of the Rivals commitment lists for Kentucky:
In Calipari's fifteen (15) years here, he only signed four (4) 3-star players: Willis, Hawkins, Thiero and Hart.

Mark Pope signed Trent Noah in his first class ... he was a 3-star.
So ... three (3) of the five (5) 3-stars signed over the last sixteen (16) years have been from Kentucky.

It truly is infuriating! Cal used that strategy his entire tenure at UK! He even did it at Memphis! See that 2008 title game! Crazy thing is that he almost always had the more talented team. Usually by a large margin. It’ll always be baffling to me.
It drove me crazy! When you have the most talent push the pace. Get as many possessions in the game as possible. Limited possessions gives the less talented team a chance.

It’s like having a Ferrari and slowing it down when you’re racing against a Ford Pinto.

Guy was and is a buffoon!!

I admit I wanted Arkansas to suck just to feel secure that Cal leaving was a good thing and to know I was right in my opinion that he had to go. But I no longer need that source of security. We know we have an awesome coach whether or not we beat Arkansas head to head or go farther than them in the tourney. They’re just another team to me now. I want them to do well against non SEC teams and I want us to beat them when we play them.

Arkansas has big Z at 50% , Davis and Fland at like 38% and DJ at 37% , Knox is 22%, Richmond is 0%

for us, Brea is 61% , Oweh is 42% , Almonor is 43% , Carr is 40% , Robinson is surprisingly 31% , and Butler is 33%, Chandler who wont shoot much against good teams is 30%. Kriisa unfortunately is 26%

Dont really get how Arkansas would be considered better at 3pt shooting than us . Also I'd like to know how much walmart , cowboys, and chicken man are paying teams to not zone them? its wild how like Baylor was the only team to do it .

Through nine (9) games, we are shooting 35.9% from three and 49.5% overall.

We've had a 3-pt shooting slump in our last four (4) games, as you can see from the game-by-game summary below.
Hopefully, we can find our stroke back tonight at home against Colgate !! We REALLY need to ... !!

I have always liked DeJuan Wagner's game. He will improve with each game this year and I think at the end of the season will end up in the draft. He was somewhat maligned last year due to starting him over Shepherd and Dillingham, but I believe he is still a very solid player. It is Calipari's coaching that I don't trust.
