AP Preseason AA Team

I think I'll bow out of this thread. Some of you are taking this list a bit more serious than I expected.

Yes, I would rather have Murray/Ulis/Skal over KW. No, I don't have an issue with him being named a pre-season AA (an award that means essentially nothing in the college bball season). Maybe you should go argue with the voters who unanimously voted him to last year's AA team or this year's pre-season version. Also, advanced statistics (that are used to compare players across college while adjusting for team strengths, etc) had Kyle's PER rating (a number often used in the NBA to determine most efficient players in the league adjusted for both strength of competition and pace) as the 11th best in the country..... higher than all but Kaminsky on the AP first team. Make of it what you will (link).

Also, as for my original quote about the KW hate/dislike, I think there are some on here who will ALWAYS hold a bit of venom for KW because he couldn't be an alpha-dog on the NIT team and then left for a program that better suits him. I don't hold a grudge (for some reason I'm one of the few who really like both KW and Archie Goodwin from that team) nor do I blame him for going to a program that better suits his game. In the end he has to do what he thinks is best for him and I'll always thank him for being a small part of the 2012 title team.

I also thank him for what he did at UK. Great memories of him being a UK player and student. With that said, I don't think he's the best in the country at his position.

I can agree with you on both. As I noted, I would take others at the PF spot then him, but I also have no issue with him being named to the pre-season AA team (something I won't even remember a month from now).

PS- Insert the obligatory "i thought you were bowing out" reply.... I walked right into that one.

Poythress will be a much more complete player than wiltjer this season.

We all hope this is true. As of now he seems to be as one sided as Kyle, except on the defensive side.

Alex still looks very timid to me.

I'm hoping he stays injury free and by January is an athletic beast again.

I have very little faith that he will turn into any type of creator on offense.

From what we have seen thus far, he will continue to be a finisher, put back, spot up shooter.

Had Alex ever developed any kind of handles his NBA future would be much brighter.

I don't think anyone here is saying they agree with how they select guys for AA. All we are saying is based on years and years of these teams being picked, offense almost always counts more than defense. It's just the way it has been. Based on how these players are picked year after year and baed on him being 2nd Team AA at the end of the season last year, it's not a surprise he is 1st Team AA. Based on years of this team being picked and how they have picked it, some of us don't have a problem with KW being there.
And what I am saying is these voters are clearly missing obvious deficiencies in Wiltjer's game. They are also not doing a good job of scanning the CBB landscape to truly find the best players to put on that list. I get it, they look at offensive accomplishments but if that is all they look at then they are just being lazy.
I'm sorry but there is no way Kyle Wiltjer is the 5th best player in the country. He's not even top 5 at his position. I get your argument, you are trying to defend the voters and that's very nice of you to do but would YOU honestly put KW on you first team AA list?

Ha gotta love the ones on this board that always think someone not agreeing with a list means they "have venom" towards certain players.

I'm glad we've got these upstanding individuals like this guy who can see past all. Way to go champ. Way to go.

I'm still scratching my head at the praise he gets. I wish nothing but the best for him but in truth he's simply a spot up shooter. That is all.

You're obviously biased or haven't been watching. He can post folks up and has great moves around the basket. Very good passer as well.

I think the reason Skal and Murray aren't on the list is because they are freshmen. Simmons is an exception; he has point guard skills and can jump out of the gym at his height, that's pretty rare. I don't think Wiltjer should be on the list due to his defense.
