Anybody Jazzed About UK/Duke Now

Thornton needs to be better than advertised.

If he is, Duke has a really good shot; although the one thing I feel Duke will excel at this season - perimeter shooting - isn't really an advantage against Kentucky due to UK's perimeter strengths.

I expect an up and down game for our side. Duke may or may not keep up, but I think we match up or have advantages at every position.
We go with 3 guards and Duke will have to match that with 3 guards.

I like our chances in Chicago alot.

I think this team is better at playing Duke's style than Duke will be. This team can shoot the 3 ball. It will be exciting to see our offense spread defenses out and create driving lanes. It was very frustrating to see our guys constantly have to play against packed in defenses because we could never shoot well enough. I always liked how Duke was able to spread the floor with deadly outside shooting. Well that's UK this season. Love it.

I agree Jeff. UK will spoon feed Duke alot of their own medicine from treyville this season.

I don't think Duke has anyone that can keep Ulis, Briscoe and Murray out of the lane. Unless we are off from the 3, we should win. Only thing we really have to worry about is checking Ingram, but I think Poythress should be up to the challenge.

We are 1-7 in the last 8 games against Duke, why should we be 'Jazzed' about playing them ?

I'm with you OP. Ever since we opened the game today, I've been thinking of our matchup with Dook in Chi-Town. Can't wait!

Correction: We HOPE our 3-pt shooting is good. Booker, for whatever reason, was unreliable from Feb on. Aaron lost his stroke. We could have had a field day last year hitting threes and opening up the lane.. But our guys just went cold. Now that last year has marinaded for quite some time, it's almost uncanny how bad we we became at 3-pt shooting. You look at how good we were shooting the ball in December, I would have never guessed we would have regressed as a team, with many games hovering around 25%.

I'm gonna say we're better from the 3 pt line this year. Just a hunch.

No doubt. I'm glad the OOC schedule is so tough because i wanna watch this team get tested and think they will be able to handle it/improve because of it better than past teams. This team has swag for sure

I said last week we win 10+ still think so..Duke lost their 4 best players..They brought in a great class, but not as good as ours...Ulis,Alex and Lee will give us an edge in experience too ..add Murray who will be the best player on the floor...Not sure why so many are worried about Duke..KU is the harder game....

Think back to this time last year. Aaron was coming off a tournament where he daggered 3 teams at the buzzer from 3.. And we had a deadeye in Booked. Everyone thought we were going to light it up.

Fortunately.. There's just no way our best shooters all go into a slump after the new year again.

Outside of the 2014 tourney, Aaron's shooting percentages were always mediocre. Expecting him to be great because of a few games was unreasonable.

It would be nice if #22 could have a game against Duke similar to his freshman year.

I agree with you.

The twins were pretty mediocre three point shooters their entire basketball careers, including high school. Aaron shot the three ball at about 33% as a senior and 32% as a junior in high school. UK fans ignored the reality behind his lack of elite shooting and listened to talking heads like Fran Fraschilla who dubbed Aaron, "the best shooter in his class", despite the evidence to the opposite. It also didn't help that the '13 class was one of the weakest guard classes in some time, thus exacerbating the inflated ranking.

Aaron did pretty much what his high school stats said he would do - which is miss 68 to 64% of his three point attempts on a consistent basis. The 2014 tournament basically fed the illogical notion that Aaron was some type of Ray Allen in the making, but the 2015 season showed us once more that we were watching a marginal three point shooter.

Murray, meanwhile, and to a lesser extent, Mulder, have shown nothing statistically that would suggest they'll hit any time of meaningful funk this year from three point range. They're both legitimately consistent shooters. The numbers indicate as much. Ulis as well.

I agree with your assessment. I'm also wondering if anyone noticed how when Booker was hot from beyond the 3 point line our guys rarely got him the ball. It seemed like there was a concerted effort to get the ball to Aaron for three point shots but Booker only seemed to get looks on kickouts or broken plays. When he was really on it was so pure that the net barely moved. I think everyone thought Aaron was going to be THE shooter but I never got the feeling he was ever that good of a shooter. I actually think Andrew shot better than Aaron for a good stretch of the season.
I have more confidence in the shooters on this team than last years team. I think we are going to see a lot of threes go down this year and we will also see a lot of open lanes because of it.

Still trying to figure out what last years team has to do with us playing Duke?

Our backcourt vs their backcourt.....we have the edge...

Frontcourts? Is Plumlee better than Lee.

Great test for us early on.
