I know they fired Fuller in November and Randy Shannon took over, but can’t find much online about potential permanent replacements. It seems Shannon’s contract is up after next season.

Seems like a great landing spot IMO but I’m in “grasping at straws” mode right now.

Stoops was already looking to get out and his debacle with aTm makes it clear that he truly doesn’t believe he can build a contender at UK. And if the head guy doesn’t believe it, there’s no way it’s going to happen with him at the helm.

Only way that happens is if he is truly tired of dealing with NIL like chip kelly was at UCLA.

Why would Mitch retain him if that's the case?

Because “buyout”, which is a somewhat foolish argument since we instead have to pay the guy next year for a piss poor season and still have to buy him out after that anyway. We are basically conceding next season to simply kick the finance can down the road another 12 months.

A top 10 paid coach isn't going to go be a coordinator. He also has no appeal to anyone else that isn't rock bottom and simply wants to become mediocre.

Look at Stoops' record here.

2013Kentucky2–100–87th (Eastern)
2014Kentucky5–72–66th (Eastern)
2015Kentucky5–72–6T–4th (Eastern)
2016Kentucky7–64–4T–2nd (Eastern)L TaxSlayer
2017Kentucky7–64–4T–3rd (Eastern)L Music City
2018Kentucky10–35–3T–2nd (Eastern)W Citrus1112
2019Kentucky8–53–5T–4th (Eastern)W Belk
2020Kentucky5–64–64th (Eastern)W Gator
2021Kentucky10–3 *5–32nd (Eastern)W Citrus1518
2022Kentucky7–63–5T–4th (Eastern)L Music City
2023Kentucky7–63–5T–4th (Eastern)L Gator
2024Kentucky4–81–7

Let's do the math here.

Five losing seasons (four 7-6 seasons)
36-62 in conference play
Only above .500 in SEC play twice
I think he has like 12 total wins against ranked teams
Never beat Georgia, only beat Tennessee twice (both times Tennessee fired their coach after losing to us)
In his 12 seasons, he has lost at least six games NINE TIMES!

Your expectations have to be soooo low to make this guy a top 10 highest paid coach. No one who wants to seriously contend are going to snag this guy.

UK is stuck with this character, which is a shame for the school, program, and UK fans around the state and nation.

More likely Brad White-but I don't know why. He and stoops make a great pair for mediocrity!
