I guess the yearly injuries have already started. Left last game with hip strain and is doubtful for the next one. Injuries is what might derail him from being a hall of fame type player. I'm beginning to wonder if he's a little soft.

He sure has missed a lot of games in his career. I love Davis. I want him to become the most dominant force in the game like I think he can. I just think missing games has become a common theme in his young career. Has it not?

Everybody misses games now. Players are 9 figure assets for NBA teams and modern medicine is able to identify issues on a much deeper level these days.

Teams are much more likely to sit guys out rather than taking a chance on injuries becoming chronic.

Davis is not soft, and he is already playing at a Hall of Fame level. Nickel and dime injuries won't have a major impact on his career. Something allowed to linger and become more serious could.

You protect your investments. I'm sure the Pelicans want to be safe. They were already up big when he got hurt and maintained the lead.

As someone in medical field, I HATE that "old school" mentality that anybody who doesn't play through injuries is soft. Players have far longer careers and their bodies are stronger, faster, and more athletic in every sport now because of medical, dietary, and training advancements, and because they listen to doctors instead of that crotchety old "walked barefoot to school uphill both ways" nonsense.

There is a lot to be said about a lack of toughness in this generation, but actually taking time to properly heal instead of pounding night in and night out on chronic injuries that will reduce your performance and make the second half of your life miserable... Is not a valid example.

Playing through a sprain in the finals? I get it. But this is the future MVP taking the medical staff's advice in very early season games to do the best thing for his and the franchise's futures.

Good point Aike. I don't mean he plays soft. He's a BEAST. I just meant not playing through a few minor injuries.

a franchise would never allow that. this isn't the playoffs. he's too young and too insanely valuable. that's really all it is.

20 years ago Davis would be an NBA rookie this year. He is still probably 5 years away from his prime. You don't have players "tough it out" and risk greater injury now. You protect them and bring them along slowly.

New Orleans has 3 other key players sitting out right now too so why force Davis to play at half strength when the rest of the team isn't even out there?

I wonder what impact the weight gain will have on his body , getting bigger and stronger is usually good but some frames take on more stress than they can handle . Playing skinny could be better for him , it's impossible to know these things though .

AKA the best basketball player in the world.

I'll take the younger more talented upside of the league MVP and reigning NBA Champ Steph Curry over Bron. He is too big, body is already breaking down. I expect LeBrons "back nine" of his NBA career will more closely resemble Tiger Woods than Kobe's, or MJ's.

Kobe has been done for at least 3 years now

"Back nine" Lebron still managed to shoot a TS% on par with Kobe's best shooting season. Lebron also gives you assists and rebounds, unlike Kobe.

But yeah, stating that Steph Curry is more valuable going forward than Lebron isn't a stretch. He had a wonderful season last year and has put up some crazy numbers so far this season.

LeBron has quietly been playing the best defense he's played in at least the last 3-4 years this year. Also, don't buy into the LeBron is losing athleticism hype. When he needs to turn it up, he still gets about eye level with the rim.

Kobe has averaged around 5 assists and 5 boards a game. He is a SHOOTING GUARD. Those are pretty good rebounding and assist numbers for his position. I'd love to see what Kobe (and not to mention Jordan) could do with Lebron's height/weight.

Never understood why people always make that statement. I wonder what so and so could do at so and so's height? How would you ever know? You can only talk on what you know and what is real.

But yes, I would agree that 5 assists and 5 boards are pretty decent numbers for a shooting guard over a career. Plus, Kobe is probably 1a to Jordan as the best SG ever.
