Anthony Davis not looking like himself

Dude your dreaming if you think guys go out every play, every game, get real.

sorry I missed where it said "take games off" in their multi-million dollar contract to play with a ball for life.

The next time I pay money to go see them I'll look up which night they are faking it.

Every big the pelicans have is hurt. Go take a look. They play no-namers at center. Holiday has been solid at pg. I think they will be okay once Asik gets back. They need somebody like Rudy Gay on that team. Someone who can take some scoring load off A.D. at small forward would give AD some working room.

Nothing wrong with the OP saying AD has looked off and has had a slow start. He has. He is too talented to not turn it around, though. He will bounce back soon.

Feeling the grind, as well as being the focus of the other team. Also, I'm sure it's hard to get motivated when you know you're in the process of getting spanked.

It is a very, very long season, but there's no question that AD is off, and the Pelicans are an incredible mess. AD's shooting 38%, not rebounding as well as last year, and the Pelicans look like the worst defensive team in basketball history. They gave up 94 points to the Warriors in the 1st 3 quarters, 70 to Portland in the 1st half, 134 to the Warriors, and then 57 in the 1st half to Orlando last night. The Warriors are a juggernaut, so OK, but Portland and Orlando are mediocre at best, possibly very bad. .

Exactly. Some folks were so eager to jump in and make fun of the OP that they didn't bother to notice that what he was saying was ..well ...all true.

It's not bashing AD to simply point out that he's off to a bad start this season.. It happens, all players eventually go through bad funks. Even the great ones and our big blue favorites.

Glad to see some people are actually paying attention. I know it's not popular to voice ANY critical thoughts about our guy AD. He's by far my favorite player in the NBA (he and Steph Curry, really) and one of if not the greatest Cats of all-time.

I know some people dismissed it as "well you're delusional if you think NBA players don't take possessions off." I get that, But one of (along with his insane physical talents) the things that makes AD so great is that he doesn't do that, or at least very rarely. His non stop motor, aggression, and hard play are what has pushed him to be as great as he has been. When I see him taking plays off, getting beaten down the floor for easy dunks, and lazily biting on weak pump fakes, I'm sorry but I'm going to notice. it's unlike him. Other people that are paying attention have noticed as well. He could just already be frustrated that he and his team are struggling, but he needs to pull himself out of it and up the intensity. Sorry for noticing, I guess?

He's not moving the same and either he's got off court problems or his weight gain in the off season has seriously effected his play. if I had to bet, he's gotten too big for his athleticism and he just can't jump the same way he used to.

I think it could have some to do with signing a 145M contract and getting a little content.

This is happening more and more in all sports. The contracts are just too big, and the players today can't mange it (not all).

Just in general.

I've thought about that. There are so many factors that could be playing into this.

1. New Contract - could be content, could be putting too much pressure on himself.
2. New Coach - different offense with a different emphasis.
3. Opposing coaches keying on him with double and triple teams.
4. Injuries. Asik, Evans, and Cole are all key pieces to the team.
5. 2 games against GSW.
6. His shot just isn't falling like it usually does.

I don't think anyone is saying that AD is no longer elite. He is absolutely elite and I expect him to bounce back soon. They play Atlanta and Dallas twice over the next week. Hopefully, Davis can get his groove back against those guys.

It's better for Davis in the long run to play good but not dominate , at his best he elevates them just enough to not get better in the draft . The Spurs tanked when they had David Robinson and it set them up for decades with Duncan . I'm not saying Davis should mail it in but the more games they lose the better , although I don't think there is a Duncan level talent for this year .

Ben Simmons would look great playing alongside Davis. So would Murray.

There's a growing rumbling around NBA people that KAT will actually be the better player of him and AD and that KAT is a better defender
Lol. Is that what your NBA insider sources were saying one week into the season?

i'm not one for conspiracy theories but....

we have all these journalists, bloggers, etc out there...a growing number is coming from non traditional journalism backgrounds.

with the rise of things like fan duel and the like...could some of this stuff be tied to that? a form of "stock manipulation". i mean espn is doing more and more gambling segments then ever before.

Relax. Let Davis play out his career. There will be ups and downs. Teams will adjust to him. He'll adapt. He'll go through spells where he's injured but not enough to sit. He'll go through spells where his team is off and he'll struggle to look good. He'll, he's still just a kid in a lot of respects.

We had a thread not long ago which was ready to declare him the second coming. Now some of you are wringing your hands and fretting. Just let the guy play. He is a unique talent. He'll have a heck of a career.

Well, it seems like AD read this thread.

My goodness, I think some of you need to relax. Let him play out his career? Sure thing!

I don't know of some of you just didn't really read my post, if you just overreact to any comment that's not verbal fellatio for our guys ...but I was hardly even critical of Davis. It was an observation that Davis didn't seem like himself. He was pouting and not hustling. It was weird to see, so I commented on it. Lot of other people who watch tons of NBA basketball had noticed it as well. Never once did it enter my mind that he wouldn't snap out of it, or that he had somehow become a much worse basketball player. Don't worry, I'm going to let him play out his career. lol.

Like you were the only one that posted in the thread . . .

thats the problem isnt it?

after skal, simmons, and murray...who would really hep you

I agree. Both Brown and Ingram will contribute in the league down the road, but both will take some time, and Brown's jump shot may never come around. Newman might fill a void of an off-the-ball scorer for a lousy team, but I'm not sure I'd want him as one of my top two or three shot consumers.

As for Zimmerman. That kid will regret the day he picked UNLV. He could have had a whole season of going against Skal, and the benefits would have been diametrically improved.
