Another tough year for Kenny Payne and UL?

I didn't even know UofL was playing tonight but I've watched a condensed game now... I gotta say, these officials did all they could do. It was pathetic and they were giving every possible benefit of the doubt for Louisville and they STILL couldn't pull out a win with Wesleyan.

Wesleyan won the rebounding by 47-33. This wasn't a fluke

Wesleyan only shot 7-37 from 3pt range for 26%. Again, not a fluke.

From what I was watching, it was a very pedestrian ky wesleyan team that just outhustled and outworked Louisville.

My thought is this: and this is coming from a guy who loves Kenny Payne as a #2 man for the Cats... he won't survive this season if things do not change significantly immediately.

Here's the truth, and I've seen it myself in multiple professions, there are some guys who get promoted to incompetence. Payne is an excellent associate, an excellent associate coach and an excellent big man coach. But I don't think he will be able to get this program able to compete at the highest levels.

I'll also add- for his sake, I'd be happy to be wrong. For Louisville, I hope no coach brings them back to elite level. But I hope Payne figures it out. If all else fails, I hope he comes back to UK.

But.. I thought he was the reason we won games?

Maybe when these coaches come in for an ejected Cal, they aren't in any way better, just that the team rallied, like any other team often does when a coach gets ejected?

It's probably his last. I kind of like Kenny and I feel a tiny bit badly for him. At the same time, it kind of shows what we had on our bench and I'll bet he comes back and joins the staff here again.

The head coach at Louisville can’t say this, Louisville should be one the 20 most talented roster in college basketball year in and year out probably in the top ten, but to you especially can’t say this after losing to a D2 team

I swear it’s almost as if KP is suffering from some type of dementia or something. And I don’t say that to make light of dementia at all. But some of the stuff he has said the last two years… actually like 90% of it… is just straight bizarre. For that reason alone I would not want him back at UK. Like, there is excuse making and then there is just downright tone-deaf, denial and ineptitude.

For that last comment is why Cal would bring him back. If he is struggling, Cal will keep him around for a few more years until retirement.

Rings true for Cal as well, IMO.
