Cal goes to the FInal Four just about every year with a freshman team.
With the exception of last season, Coach K spends most seasons at home sucking his thumb after getting beat the first weekend by some unkown mid major.
I'm not sure how that equates to Coach K beating Cal at his own game.

Beating Cal at his own game? That's rich. They both have 1 title since Duke adopted Cal's strategy. Cal has 4 FFs and 2 title games at UK. That's better than K's record during that span, if you don't include the 2010 season since that team was veteran-rich.
I think if you are waiting for Cal to recruit a bunch of shooting guards like K, you are in for a long wait.
I don't want cal to really change anything. Just maybe offer a scholarship to a guy who will hang around and hit the deep shots when we need it.

I've become so numb to the constant praising of Duke from ESPN and other media outlets. Honestly it only bothers me come tournament time when they get handed a road to the final 4 paved with blocks of hersheys chocolate and surrounded by flowers made of jolly ranchers, cotton candy, tootsie pops, and balloon animals, while ours is like delivering the ring of promise and justice to mount doom.
Even with the Mormon kid they kept saying he's not a OAD, he's got ministry trips to take, we don't aspire for 1 year players, etc.....
He even came out against UK and Cal by saying he doesn't like our system and it's not for him.
Liars and hypocrites. If the media held these people responsible, damn.

Basically, I think Cal agrees with what you're saying and tries to bring those guys in. But he doesn't let it override his goal of bringing in players who can quickly develop into NBA talents.
Food for thought...as great a shooter as Lamb was, it was Teague who hit the biggest shot during the championship game. And we all know what Aaron did. Those freshmen guards have been pretty good to us.

Better how - because they cake-walked to the Championship and had to play a worn out Wisconsin team for the title, and did so with 3 one-and-dones? Let's see if they are "better at it" over the next several years. Doing it once doesn't mean "better". In the past few years, Cal has been BETTER at it, as he's had one-and-dones several times more often than K's ONE TIME. Lightning in a bottle doesn't equate to "better at" something.

Why are people shocked that ESPN is making coach K "the innovator" And success story of the OAD era? When they won that title were people really thinking this wasn't coming?

Hard for me to complain, as a UK fan, about the obvious truism that ESPN slobbers all over K and Duke. Because they slobber all of Cal and UK, too. Face it, at times, ESPN is not much more than an infomercial for UK and Calipari. There may be one school of the 300+ D1 programs that gets better treatment than we do, and that's arguable.
There are people out there who really, really don't like UK and/or Calipari. There are plenty of things to complain about when it comes to media and treatment of us vs others. I reserve my scorn for those guys. Individually.
