Ament to Vols

Knox is gone man. I would be absolutely shocked if he doesn’t stay in the draft, just like Edwards and Livingston.

They probably have one more coming from the portal though. Johnell Davis type to fill out his 8-10 man team.
I think, following Cal’s usual MO, he will want one more PF, unless he thinks the Freshman PF he got can play SEC ball right off the bat.

He usually likes four bigs to rotate. I even remember him saying on his call in show that he had to have a 4 man rotation at the 4 and 5.

Brazile, Ewin, and Pringle are great. He probably needs one more decent body for depth.

I don’t think he’s the second coming of anything even if he came here. I much preferred Tounde Yessoufou or Caleb Wilson to him. He could end up being a great player and we definitely need to reel in Top 10 guys. He reminds me much more of a Skal than a Wall type player.
He's a good player no doubt but the questions on his ability to dominate as a freshman in the SEC was brought up lots of times while we were in the hunt. I also don't think he is a big impact player as a freshman. Very few freshman typically are in my opinion.

I disagree.
Acuff (#1 PG)
Wagner / Meleek Thomas (#2 CG)
Knox / Richmond
Brazile / Pringle (SC)
Ewing (FSU) - Stud Big. Averaged 14/8 as a sophomore.

That is a very solid 8 player rotation. Knox and Richmond should make the big jump in year 2. IF they add a couple more portal pieces, not only will they be good, but VERY dangerous. Mix of youth and veterans, 4 players returning from last year that started / played starter minutes. Don't let the Cal hate fool you, they will be good.

They could be good or he will only add one more piece, injuries will stack up in SEC play and he’ll complain about not having enough players to scrimmage. Seen that movie many times before.

I agree that his roster is talented, but a few of those guys are extreme bricklayers. And as always with Cal’s freshmen, will they be Cousins/Wall freshmen of Skal/Quade Green freshman?

Arkansas was a SEC tournament loss to South Carolina away from not making the tournament this past season. Now they lose their 2 best players and replace them with a Freshman class that would be the least talented Cal has ever had.
We will find out when we go there in 2025.

Well he looked terrible in the Nike game. Kids got between now and November to put on 10-15 pounds of muscle. Going against physical players 2-3 times a week will be hard on that body. He’s used to playing mid range to wing and not many physical players on AAU.
If anybody can get a little weight on him it's Tennessee. If nothing else they will have him a lot stronger. Their strength and conditioning coach/program is amongst the best in the nation. It's definitely one thing I wish Kentucky would improve on.

BTW, I couldn't find anything that necessarily said he was picking Tennessee?
He may not end up there. Personally, I'd rather him not land there.

I just think there were crystal ball picks but that changes as the dollars change

I hear ya. People see a lot of things that don't pan out this time of year. We've seen that here this portal season for sure. Hopefully some of that lands their way, too.
A lot of these kids today seem to be all about the $.

TN may be a bigger problem than we may think. I read they were also getting the 6'8" kid from LMU and the Rice kid from Maryland.

If their crystal balls pan out, definitely a lot bigger problem than I had planned on.
I've been so immersed in KY recruiting I hadn't paid too much attention to other schools, let alone probably our biggest in confernce rival atm.

EwwTee already got that Gillespie kid from Maryland and that big from Vandy ( forgot his name), if they somehow did land Ament and Rodney Rice ( along with 6'8 Eliyah Freeman that you listed), they going to F around and wind up with a solid team again.

If so, that will definitely sux because I thought for sure Barnes was retiring this year and they would most likely be returning to mediocrity.

he will be in portal next season because barns won't play him untill he learns how to play defence and he needs to gain 20 pounds.he can all those freshman he wonts.we got grown ass men.
Sh't man, Ament probably in the pros next year. The last couple of years Barnes has been allowing for one top scorer that might lack the defense the rest of the team plays.
It took him to almost retirement to realize it, but he finally figured it out that a team has to have at least one guy that can put the ball in the hoop regardless of his defensive prowess.

Fortunately tho, he still hasn't figured out you can't just count on one guy to do all the scoring for you.

Will be a nice haul if it work out
They are getting Rice along with Gillespie? That’s 2/3 of Maryland’s awesome backcourt. Anyone who thinks UT is just gonna disappear as long as Barnes is there hasn’t been paying much attention to our league the last 8 years or so.

Same was said about Wagner a week ago, I think he maintained his college eligibility for a reason but we’ll see

So in the last two tourneys we’ve lost in the EE to a Purdue team that made the finals, and in the EE to the eventual national champion. Not making the FF sucks but I can’t be disappointed in who we lost to. I do think Barnes has learned.

No. He can’t shoot consistently and missing 3 layups a game is not a go to guy.
You and I must have been watching two different players.

Perspective is everything. If you go back a year earlier and view tape of Oweh as a sophomore at OK, then you would understand how far he has come with only one season of Coach Pope's teachings. Oweh is one of the most rapidly improving perimeter players in the country on both ends of the floor. He was our leading scorer, became one of our defensive stoppers, singlehandedly destroyed OK, and kept UK in other games in which we otherwise wouldn't have had a chance.

That's not official yet. I think he will go with the money but also factor in the competition for playing minutes.
But I agree he will get pushed around in the SEC.

Knox of AR has entered the NBA draft but is keeping the option of coming back. I expect him to come back for one more year unless he gets a guaranteed contract.

DJ, TB, and Richmond all are coming back.
Funny as **** to me that if DJ were at UK and under Calipari this past season, he would be announcing his entry into the draft.

I stand by my statement. He’s not a number 1 guy or at least hasn’t shown the ability to be that guy as of yet. Too many mistakes too often.

You where saying ? Acuff and Meleek Thomas sure did look the part last night.
Thomas had 16/2/4 in 17 minutes.
Acuff had 22 and 3 steals in 25 minutes.

But off topic, AJ Dybantsa is the real deal, all star game or not. 25/9/3 in 27 minutes.
Caleb Wilson lead all scorers with 28/6/2 with 1 steal 1 block in 24 minutes. 13/14 from the field, unreal. The only miss, his only 3 attempt.
Lots of talented kids that will be day 1 good in the NCAA next year. Very solid class. Jasper looked really good, Lewis didn't score much, but had 8 dimes and 8 boards. Yeesofou, Burries, Boozer, Ament, and Chris Cenac are all very good.

I would say Knox is 75% back to Arkansas. CBS, ESPN, and The Athletic do not even have him on draft boards. He is a year away. Comes back next year, shows improvement, makes the jump, and get himself in the 1st round. Arkansas will pay him like a 2nd round pick anyway with no risk.

Dang. I was hoping Ark. would get Ament.
He didn’t commit yet. Something it’s happening at Duke. Ament supposed to go there. It will be interesting if the hedge funds guys will double down and keep investing in Duke big time this year again. Who knows, with volatility on the stock market , many “investors “ had to honor calls….and probably was hard to digest losing to a team that you beat last year , when you spent 30 millions and handpicked the players and subs, the locations of NCAA games and referees…

Well Fland was out most of the year and their worse stretch was with him . You can’t always predict freshman but Acuff is expected to be better than Fland .

Talk about aging in dog years.....

Cal coached his @$$ off at Arkansas this year trying to prove he still had it, and not being used to putting that much work in actually coaching his team in an effort to go further in the tournament than UK and Pope, it has aged him terribly.......

Arkansas has the look of a really bad shooting team. Wagner, Brazile, Richmond and several Freshman is not an NCAA tournament roster.
This could be Cal’s flame out season.
They will be long, athletic, and can defend. I’m mean Calipari thrives with those teams. I hope schools figure out zoning them works but nobody really tired it except Kansas when they made their comeback.

They won't be as good as last year. That gainey, midget Z, mashack or whatever, Lanier, milicic they lose their whole team and I doubt they replace to that level. TN is/was a product of a few years building.

He’s going to be on some All-American lists, too.
Oweh is critical to our success next year.

Apparently, Ament and his “camp” are waiting until everyone spends their entire budgets!

Huge mistake IMO!
Yep like teams with money to spend are just going to count on him coming. You got to approach it like your not going to have him.
The last reliable person I listen to on AR said we had 3 to 4 m left if Knox comes back but we got to recruit like he's not coming back.
