    Donovan

It was a big deal. Time is of the essence. UK would just be that much further behind in recruiting and building a team.

It would be nice to get some good news soon.

I mean we had one of those that lit us up in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament.

One basketball Mother’s opinion if I had a son like Reed….

Going now could end up costing him in the long run. Going now for the quick buck could impact his career in the long run. Reed is probably a G league level player right now. The guards in the NBA would eat him alive right now. Honestly he needs to finish college and then pursue an NBA career...

    Does Reed Shepperd return?

He’s not going that high. He’s a G league player at best right now. Guards are a dime a dozen. He will drop once the NBA workouts begin and other unknown foreign players enter the draft.

Why doesn't the Hurley logic extend to Sheppard?

A couple of million most certainly could set up a 19 year old for life. If they put that money to work for them it will most certainly take care of them.

    I'm back...

Look at UConn, KU, UVA. They all won championships after following bad seasons and bad tournament losses. It wasn’t a progression from EE to championship in 3-4 years. That’s where we are at now.

Would Hurley or Drew have gotten the same reception?

Hurley was a nobody before 2023 in college basketball. Still kind of a nobody until he proves that he’s not a flash in the pan and can win consistently. He only had 2 NCAA tournament wins prior. Ollie also won a championship at UConn his second year and was subsequently run out of town a few...

So much for the new hire........

He went 23-11 with his level of talent at BYU in the Big 12. UK will naturally attract better talent if you are halfway decent with recruiting. UK will end the regular season with at least 25 wins next season.

I feel so sorry for Mark.

UConn isn’t going to win next year. Most of the team will be gone.

According to MJ on X/Twitter re NIL

Nobody knew who Dan Hurley was up until 2023.

    66, NA, 46, 97, and 75 — Mark Popes Last 5 Recruiting Class Ranks

Hurley has no longtime track record of UK level of success. Right now he’s a flash in the pan and UK almost threw the bank at him. That would be like hiring Ollie after the 2014 title. How would that have worked out?

    66, NA, 46, 97, and 75 — Mark Popes Last 5 Recruiting Class Ranks

UK was about to throw big money at a guy who prior to the last two years had a total of 2. Who still is kind of unproven in a way. UConn only seems to see success when kids want to stay close to home. Let’s get real Ollie won a title at UConn in year 2.
  13. W

Does hiring Pope mean there is a behind the scenes plan?

Actually they both have a title.
  14. W

    UGA fan here… Pope

Yes, and Pope was actually part of winning a title at UK.

    Can Pope get players

When UConn is really good their roster is usually loaded with northeastern and local talent.
  16. W

What did it cost us? And realistic Year 1 expectations?

BYU made the NCAA tournament this year. UL did not.

    Pope’s Deal

It was only a few hours ago UK was going to throw nearly 100 million at Hurley. Let’s be real outside of the last two season Hurley had accomplished nothing significant. If you look at UConn’s success, it’s usually tied to a collective group of players from that region. We may have dodged a...

The true fans will get behind Pope.

What merits does Dan Hurley have over a long track record? Yes, he just took his team to back to back titles at UConn. Hurley would have been considered awful prior to the last two seasons. However, Ollie won the championship at UConn in 2014. Should UK have given him the call? Absolutely not...

He probably won't be Kenny Payne bad, but

Would you say that UConn was negligent in hiring Hurley? What had he proven prior to the last two seasons? Absolutely NOTHING! His first four seasons at UConn were horrible. He had only won two tournament games prior at Rhode Island.
  20. W

In 9 seasons, Pope has never won a NCAAT game

Hurley wasn't exactly a world beater prior to the last two years.
