As a corollary to the Overrated thread below:

Reading the sports this AM, read the 1000th article about Affirmed and Alydar.

How about Seattle Slew for underrated or at least overlooked? Every time Triple Crown comes up, it is all about Secretariat and Affirmed v. Alydar.

Yet Slew was the only undefeated TC winner, plus ran as a 4 year old, defeating Affirmed twice (in history's only meetings between two TC winners), won 14 of 17 in a career and was a phenomenal stud.

- The Buffalo Bills of the 90's.

- The Stooges - the band, not Larry, Curly and Moe.

- SPAM

Harrison Ford + Johnny Depp + Tom Cruise + Robert Downey Jr. = Zero Oscars

The problem for all of them is that they have done a bunch of action movies in addition to more serious works. Action movies are Oscar poison. That is basically like an actress who does porn. She is never going to get mainstream roles after that (Unless she plays herself in a Howard Stern bio flick).

Atlanta Braves of the 90s

70s Dallas Cowboys. Yeah, they won two Super Bowls during the decade, but still lost three others (V, X and XIII) by a combined score of 11 points.

EDIT: Adding the pick and roll. See Stockton and Malone.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (riveting, interesting, and weird movie that no one has seen)
Arctic Monkeys (best pop rock group since Nirvana and no one listens to them)

Smashing Pumpkins.

You'll hear people drone on about Nirvana, Pearl Jam, AIC, Sound Garden, STP, and other bands of this era, but rarely do they bring up this group.

.

WKRP In Cincinnati

I know Cat fans from that era are familiar with it, and it won awards, but its demise came way too soon. That show could've/would've/should've run for 10 years if CBS hadn't effed up its time slot so many times.

Excellent taste.

"In A Station," "Lonesome Suzie," "Up On Cripple Creek," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," "The Weight," "Ophelia," "Shape I'm In"...could keep going.

In the spirit of the thread and kinda in response to your post...Levon Helm.

Best cover of Atlantic City ever:

The random business day where nothing happens at all...good or bad. No drama. No phone calls. Nothing at all.

A plain Jane who plays a mean rusty trombone. Skill matters.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

had an old man make me a sweet potato and spam sammich once. Damn nation son.

So rack that.

Edit: I forgot that the old man threw on mayo. whewee

I bet he put some mayo on there for you... and I bet it smelled of freshly mowed lawn grass.

Charles Bukowski is pretty damn underrated.
Had to think on this one. Definitely one of my favorite authors, but he seems to have a huge, almost devoted fan base. But I guess we are saying overlooked by the majority. So those who do know him, love him vehemently. Is cult status overlooked?

Good call of the Stooges.

Bands= Wire or Gang of Four, 70's fusion Miles Davis period
Books= Pasteurs of Heaven by Steinbeck. Southern Gothic at its finest
Shows= Carnivale (HBO)
Food= Fish Tacos
Actor= Clive Owen or Tom Hardy (Maybe not so much anymore)

^As long as you don't mean these godawful fish tacos in Kentucky with the flour tortillas. Real fish tacos are only served on corn tortillas and they only have cabbage (not lettuce) and salsa on them. See Rubios on the West coast as they invented them in San Felipi, Mexico.

My underrated contributions are any Errol Morris documentary and the book White Noise by Don Delillo (also Libra is the best book ever written on Lee Harvey Oswald).

Underrated:
-Spending time with your kids
-Watching the sunset
-Playing cards with your mom and dad
-Doing something nice for the community
Are you the official soppy cliche writer for motivational quotations?

How about "Hug your kids" and "Plant a flower" or maybe "Dance in the rain"?
