UL has finished 3rd the last 5 years in a row I think. In fact they have finished 3rd to 5th for like the last 30 something years..

But how many of their tickets are subsidized by companies? Methinks a lot of their figures are "padded"

Kentucky won the total attendance battle (447,874 to Syracuse's 429,378) but Syracuse won the average attendance battle (23,854 to Ky's 23,572). This is not an insignificant difference. Both are envied achievements but the highest average attendance has always belonged to KY. Ironically, it is the other way around this year. Because of Syracuse's bigger arena, they usually win the "total" battle by playing more games than (Not Then!) Kentucky, but never beating out Kentucky for the most fans per game. This is seen by Syracuse as a major victory because it is much easier to add games to the schedule than (Not Then!) it is to get more fans to come to the games.

So this is second year in a row we've lost the average attendance title, correct?

Could be, I haven't kept track of late. If indeed Syracuse is winning the average attendance battles regularly now, with good to midland teams, look for them to start winning it all should they become a power program again.

It sucks that we don't have a deathgrip on the title like we used to. You'd figure now would be the hardest it has ever been to get tickets.

Can't really do much better than average 23,572 at Rupp. In fact there are laws against it. Hence Syracuse with their adjustable seating football stadium arena will always have the advantage. However you have to give the Syracuse fans credit. They are coming out like never before. It used to be that they never beat us in attendance unless they were having a championship year.
