True Detective: Season 2

So far this season really sucks, right?

I watched an episode of season 1 last night and it actually enjoyable. There were jokes, interesting characters, and you could follow what the hell was happening without a Ph.D in classical mythology.

I don't think this season sucks at all. Last season the two main characters were together in the first scene, this season since there's four they had to take some extra time. Let's just wait and see.

As for the spoiler...

i read an article where it said the author had seen the third episode already (no idea how), and that Ray does survive because the shotgun was loaded with buckshot.

Pretty sure CHiPs guy is gay. He went out of his way to make a derisive comment about a gay guy that was checking him out. He doth protest too much.

Also positive that it'll come out that Semyon was BEHIND the rape of Colin Farrel's wife. That he used that to get CF in his debt.

Possibly. But when VV and CF were sitting together in the booth at the end of ep. 2, VV asked CF if he remember how they met. I thought they CF was torturing/murdering rapist and VV witnessed it. I think that is why VV has control over CF. Pretty much that CF is forever indebted to VV for not saying what happened. Maybe I heard it wrong though.

PS.... VV CF

Pretty sure they met because Semyon knew how to locate the rapist and then helped Ray dispose of the rapists body. Semyon prlly still has proof of this and won't let Ray out.

In episode 1 VV invited CF to his bar. He told him he knew who the rapist was and he gave CF a picture of the guy. That's how they met. So yes, CF is in debt to VV. That's the whole reason VV gave him the info and showed him the picture. So CF would be indebted to him. But not because he witnessed what CF did to the rapist.

On a similar note...I have been wondering the whole time if VV really knew who the rapist was or if he just took advantage of the situation and gave up some innocent dude who he wanted CF to torture/kill for whatever reason.

If your spoiler is correct, which I assume it is. No way. I'm not seeing how that would work.

Man talk about a great way to get someone on your payroll.. have your cronie pay some junky to rape a man's wife, and then sell the junky to the man. Dude will forever be in your debt.

Now if only you could also get a crack at the wife....:grimace:

It ain't hard to get scripts, it's not like Hollywood is any sort of moral compass. Some pills and a promise to make someone a star could probably get you any script you want..

You pretty much already kind of spoiled it a bit now didn't you. Please give us a spoiler alert next time.

Not really, there was already sort of a consensus on this board that he wasn't dead. The conversation was mostly centered around how he survived or what the attacker was going to do with him. If that is considered a spoiler then this whole thread is pretty much a spoiler.

I've been jonesing to watch the first season of TD again. The first five to six episodes were the shit. It was Breaking Bad level to me.

The two leads just made that as well as Marty's personal troubles.

Anyways in regards to this season, I expected more from the biker cop. So far the only one I like is Rachel McAdams. I did like CF beating the touch out of the bully's dad though.

Something tells me I'm going to finish this season, not mad or disappointed, but wishing it were more like 12-14 episodes and not just 8. We're a quarter of the way through it.. and Rachel McAdams still hasn't had a scene where she gets piped out. That makes me sad.

It's not that big of a deal but there's a difference between a bunch of people watching a show and then posting their thoughts & predictions vs. someone watching the show, listening to interviews, reading blogs, etc...and then stating...

Interviews I have read pretty much clarify that Colin Farrell's character is not dead.

The difference is you knew CF was going to be alive based on whatever info you heard during the interviews...not on a prediction based merely on watching the show.

A warning would have been nice. But I should know better. Happens in every one of these "show" threads. Somebody gets some juicy "inside info" and then runs to Catpaw to spread the word. I don't even understand why anyone would want to know whats going to happen. It kind of ruins the whole viewing experience if you ask me.

No harsh feelings though. We still Wildcat Friends. Carry on.

You, my friend, seem like a person "in the know". How in the **** do I spoiler tags?

Thanks in advance, sir.

Agree. Use the goddamn spoiler tags. It would be nice to read thoughts/theories without dipshits posting spoilers in every thread.

Any idea who the woman with scars on her face is?

Probably not her but remember in opening of 1st episode McAdams and her partner were talking to that girl about her missing sister. Didn't she say the missing woman had told someone she had left to start working somewhere but had not told where. Maybe a tie in there who knows.

Well, I see we got to the third episode before it fell off a freaking cliff. Terrible and of course, we got to throw the tough guy struggling with his homosexuality in there.

BTW, I think the killer or one of the killers is..

You all really think it's that bad? Sheesh. Tough crowd.

I think it has gotten progressively better with each episode, and despite some cringe-worthy dialogue and cop cliches, I am enjoying the show. Not on the level of season 1, but we all knew that would be the case.

Definitely a step back from Episode 2. But I don't think it's terrible. But they do need to make up ground quick. 5 more episodes to really develop the plot, backstory, wow moments, and finale.. Going to be tough.

And that fight scene was horrifically bad. VV winning against a Southside gangster type.. the fact that they took coats off like it's the 1950's..

And now two counts of ED in this episode. Viagra marketing team should be on the horn all day.

OK so I was wrong about the gay thing. Dude definitely smoked some pole in the desert and is currently struggling with his sexuality.

Wasn't a great episode either but I still think this show is going to finish good. Thinking the next episode is going to be the best one yet. I guess hoping would be the correct word to use.

I would've been more impressed if Semyon had just taken out a pistol and blew that pimps head off.

I even said to my wife "if he doesn't blow his head off right now....this show has no credibility left to salvage."

I'm holding out hope for a CrowHead vs. Velcoro fencing match to close out the season.

I'm not down on the show like others appear to be, but what a terrible casting decision with Vince Vaughn...and I love Vince Vaughn.

Vaughn has been better than Kitsch in my opinion. Farrell and McAdams have been far and away better than either of them.

I'm not sure anyone else could have done much better with this writing.

They could've had Marlon Brando in his early 30's playing Semyon......still doesn't save writing / directing that has been this bad.

I mean, we have to remember, MM wasn't exactly Cary Grant when he signed on for season 1. He was essentially Channing Tatum of the 2000's. WHat did he do before TD, like 8 Rom-Coms with Kate Hudson, and Lincoln Lawyer? Matthew McConaughey has really come into his own as an Actor with some great roles, but they all came during or after TD.

So because of that, while I still don't love the casting direction, I'm willing to see how it shakes out. So far CF has been pretty good, imo. I almost don't recognize the crappy actor from years prior.

Should I be ashamed that I enjoyed Lincoln Lawyer?

Nope, he was good in that. It was one of the few quality moves he was in, imo, before or around the time of TD. Not that I didn't like other movies (His brief parts in Dazed and Tropic Thunder), but it's funny to look back and see that he didn't really have much of a track record before TD. I kind of count Mud, DBC and WOW in the same time frame, which were all great.
