True Detective: Season 2

"Everybody gets touched."

It's really (too) busy. Acting not great. Story so far is not compelling. Kinda like we thought it would be.

I agree. Really couldn't get a grasp on what was actually going on. Im hoping once the three police characters start workig together it will get less "busy".

Not as good of an opening as season 1. but there are more players this time around, and each needed a piece of the 60 minutes. Lot of development needed to take place and somehow bring all the characters together. Probably the most disappointing is Vaughn, and I blame that 100% on the fact that I keep expecting some of his quick witted humor to come out. Still have high hopes for season 2, and don't really think episode 1 was bad, just "busy" as you guys said. I am afraid that 8 episodes, with double the main characters, might not be enough..

On the plus side, we find out that Rachel McAdams characters likes butt stuff in the first 10 minutes. Yeah, they could have been talking about anything in the "bedroom", but 3:1 odds is was butt stuff..

Oh, and this line..

"If you ever bully someone again I'm going to come back and b*** f*** your father with your mom's headless corpse on this lawn"

Yeah, the first episode was "busy" but chalk that up to character & story development. No way this season surpasses or even comes close to matching the inaugural season but I think this will wind up being a perfectly decent show. And yes, that is the threshold I established long ago for this season...perfectly decent. Not setting my sights any higher.

I thought it was a pretty good opener. The only thing I found busy was the stuff going on with VV's character. I like the relationship he has with Velcoro. I was expecting it to be an "I have dirt on you so do whatever I say" situation, which it still might be but Velcoro is obviously comfortable working for Semyon.

I liked it. It's not going to be as good as the first one and that's fine because the first season is one of the best shows in history.

The plot seems to be based on the City of Bell scandal that the LA Times exposed. That and some other stuff.

I really enjoyed the last one till they let that very talented 13 year old write the ending. A young M Knight Shamalam in the making.

So was the motorcycle cop taking Viagra? Also, when he pulled the hot girl over did he accept her offer or write her a ticket?

The first episode was all character development. We get it. These cops are all angry, damaged people and the mob boss is in a make or break situation. Now the writer has 7 episodes left to tell us a good story.

It's just that there is such a thing as too much character establishment too fast, and that's what we witnessed last night IMO. This is even while understanding that it's a one shot season to tell the story.

There's no reason it can't still be a good show; but what I've seen from the flow and the acting so far combined with my lack of sympathy for any of the characters other than Semyon.....not a great start.

Yes he took Viagra.

And he wrote the actress a ticket then she proceeded to falsely accuse him of soliciting a BJ in trade for not writing a ticket...even though that's actually the deal she originally offered him.

I got ya. I watched it a second time around and I actually enjoyed the episode much more. All the clutter seemed to make more sense.

From the rivals main board:

..who were let down by the premiere. I finally watched it last night andthe good news is: pretty damn good. Now, the casting is wrong, andRiggens looked like he's never ridden a motorcycle before, but the plot was not "muddled" or confusing as the critics would have you think. In fact, if you plot the narrative strands where each character starts geographically on amap with a string and a pin and then tie strings to each pin and line up thestrings to a 180 degree angle, they all point to an epicenter of Vici, the industrial city where the action takes place. Also, the water puddle shapeoutside the dive bar where Vaughn's character first meets Colin Ferrell's character is in the shape of Mephistophocles. Speaking of which, the namesof the female cop and her sister are not just from Greek tragedy (that was an obvious red herring), but the last name, Bezzarides means "eye of the crow"in Latin, whereas Ferrell's character's last name "velcoro" means "eye of thecrow" in Italian. Of course, there was a crow's head in the car that wastransporting the Weekend at Bernie's dude. With all of this richintertextuality, there's hope for this season.

Link for confirmation? Google says false, but I'll defer to someone else who looks a little harder.

Eye of the crow in Latin = oculus cantet

Eye of the crow in Italian = occhio del corvo

I just did a copy and paste. Those guys over there take GoT and TD very serious though.

Yep. Especially considering that "puddle" doesn't even exist the first time they meet in the dive bar. The scene opens with the door to the bar opening, and doesn't show the outside at all. The scene ends by VV taking a drink and fading into the next scene in which he is taking a drink of coffee outside his house.

It also doesn't happen the second time they meet in the dive bar. There is no GD puddle outside the dive bar. Doesn't exist.

Oh, I almost forgot, Vinci doesn't f*cking exist in real life, and I don't remember seeing a detailed map with each character's position noted...so I'm not sure where this shit comes from.

You really buying that guy's shit, Chief?

I mean, he's obviously just f*cking with people, right?

I don't know. I just read it this morning and did a C and P. I don't watch them that closely. Just thought it might provide some discussion over here.

He might have meant Greek. That translation is mati tuo karoka. Maybe that formed into Mezzerides over the years.

I guess he could be trolling but that board is full of trolls. They would call him on it if he was. Here is his latest:

Wow, this show just keeps revealing secrets. Vaughn's first name, "Vince" is derived from the same Latin root (vincere), which means to conquer, as the main city, Vinci.

Is the main board premium? If not, please provide a link so I can engage.

WTF pays attention and looks at mud puddles during a gd show ? Watch the show, listen good, enjoy it. If a see a mf stopping and rewinding , slowing down, the dvr while I am watching a show I enjoy, he is without warning getting the ish slapped right out of him.

LOL, Chase throwing all kinds of Shade @ UK / Memphis' for his belief in his little TD forum.

I don't think he's dead.
There are pictures online of the three detectives going on a raid together. This has not happened in the show yet.

DAMN! Big turn-around for episode 2. And he can't be dead, doesn't IMDB say he's in every episode? I guess unless they do flashbacks or something. Probably had a bp vest on.

Although, talk about foreshadowing his death. Big confrontation with his ex where she basically takes his child away, the only thing he says he has left. Talks about the only way he can take a vacation is if he is dead, wants to get out of work with VV and doesn't even want police chief down the line.

- Rubber bullets IMO.

- blood puddle in Hollywood apt was same shape as puddle outside of the bar.

- so much eye symbology in this episode and then of course the crows head

I'll hold off before I make judgment. Vince looks to be prepared to show a darker side so maybe he can make it happen. I've noticed he doesn't really stand out as an actor when he's not speaking fast. If you look at his past movies (which happen to be comedies) he's rolling off some witty line 5x fast. And Ferrell ain't dead. There's no way.

Biker cop is gay

McAdams likes BDSM
