Not a single post relating to UK football today on KSR

What happened yesterday or today that is worth talking about regarding the football team? We received a 3 star commit, and they put it on their website and talked about it on the show. Many people on here have said you shouldn't even talk about individual recruits until signing day since there are so many people decommitting and committing elsewhere.

I guess they could have mentioned Cross again, but I'm not sure that would be necessary.

edit- BTW, there has been 3 football mentions today.

UK basketball fans are deranged. How can you get so excited about next season when we couldn't even beat Wisconsin with 4 lottery picks? I'm sorry, but I am so sick of one-and-done.
Laughable. This past team started 2 juniors, 2 sophomores, and a freshman until Poythress went down. Recruiting the best players in the nation has had us in the race every year but 1. We had 7 titles in 150 years of basketball before Cal came here. It's all about being in the conversation.

I know it is the cool thing for some on here to bash KSR and I get it...you don't like us or me, and have at it. But I would suggest that most of what is written here is incorrect or simply forgets some facts. First of all, Tuesday we went to Paintsville and interviewed one of the biggest UK FB recruits in recent memory on the show in front of a massive crowd. The whole show that day was based around FB recruiting and Kash, and I am not sure how that is neglecting football. Yes, yesterday there were no football posts but it was also the day of the NBA Draft when Kentucky players were about to break records for picks in the Draft and the day after a massive recruit committed to the Cats. We had record June traffic on that day and I think/know it was because of those stories. Right now the FB coaches are on their last time off before the season and the players are on a mini-hiatus. There simply is little football news and none on the level of the last two days of what came from basketball.

With that said, our goal is to continue to do more football. I brought Freddie on for that reason and another move is coming in late July that will be in that direction as well. You are correct that I don't know much about Marcelys Jones (but I would note that we broke the commitment on KSR) but we celebrated that as a BIG deal and talked about it multiple times on the site and show. I know zero about the kid from Alabama but with the exception of maybe one or two UK reporters (maybe Rowland or one other person) I can guarantee you that NO media knows anything about him and has never seen him play. It is the nature of football recruiting that unless you are a specialist, you won't know. We don't have any of those now although that could change in the future. I could sit here and act like I am a football expert but I am not. So I talk about it the way I feel comfortable and most fans tend to enjoy it. If you don't so be it.

KSR is a one stop shop for the average UK fan. The average UK fan loves football but basketball drives the boat at this time. We cover football and will continue to and as the program gets better the intensity will continue to grow. But trust me...as a person who studies website traffic, listeners to the shows, etc, our fans want football news at two times...around Signing Day and in the season. Outside of it, the average fan (not the diehards on UK football message boards) tends to tune out all but the biggest football news (like the Kash Daniel commitment). You may think that is bad, but it is reality. I have to cater to reality in order to have a successful business. And the reality is this....on the night of the NBA Draft and the day after a MASSIVE basketball commitment, the majority of our fans want to talk basketball. That is just the way it is

I'm amazed, just totally amazed, Jones would rip himself away from Calipari, the NBA, etc to come here to address us, the great unwashed UK football fan. Maybe we should grovel at his feet or kiss his ring. Ehhh, don't bet on it.

Well the reason I don't come to these (or any) message boards more is because of comments like that. It has nothing to do with the issue and is simply a juvenile personal shot. I miss the message boards quite a bit as I actually got my start writing on them over 15 years ago. But I find that too often any conversation that involves me becomes like that quote above...not about the merits of anything I say, but about what the individual thinks of me as a person or a way to criticize me. I am not sure why I (or anyone else for that matter) would want to be a part of that.

What I do enjoy (and miss) about these sites is when one can have a conversation, discuss something, maybe even disagree and share viewpoints. I don't think that happens as much on message boards nowadays and it it does, it happens even less when my name or KSR is involved.

I suppose anything they desired. They have football writers. And there never seems to an an issue finding something to post about basketball on ANY day of the year. (Just a reminder...I am not a bball vs fball fan...just using it as basis of discussion)

Great to hear about today's coverage. I haven't been to the site to see.

I'm not a basher. I discuss. I respect your right to run a profitable business. It is your site. It the negative attitude and connotations you place upon the program and team on occasion that I find concerning. I am especially insulted that you and Oscar Combs are seen as some of the media faces of the program due to your involvment in game day media coverage. I want football guys in those positions. Not ones that have a history of taking shots at the program, however subtle.

You came here to try to put UK football fans in their place, plain and simple. And to let us know basketball rules around here. Fine but in the grand scheme, football is what runs college athletics. Don't see how you can deny that but whatever makes you feel good about yourself.

I really, really wish I could unread this.
.

As I, this. Now that we know where each stands on the political spectrum to some extent...I'm guessing from our comments we will both feel somewhat compelled to judge. As being a Kentucky football fan has nothing to do with political beliefs, I hope we can blind ourselves to this new information moving forward. Your purpose here, as mine, is to discuss and support UK athletics.

Football doesn't run Kentucky college athletics though. Basketball does. Our basketball has proven success. Our football team does not (yet)

I think that was all he was trying to say

-Actually...UK football bays the vast majority of the athletic depts bills. It has always been this way. UK basketball is one of the few profitable bball programs in the nation...and thats good *but* football pays the freight. Last i saw football clears 4-5x more than bball.

If UK football had a top 25 team every year, trust me, KSR would have as much or more football content than basketball. Likewise, Matt Jones would know a lot more about football than he does now.

Right now, most UK fans know little about football or our team. We have not been given a reason to talk about them or even care about football the past decade. That is not KSR/Matt Jones fault.

ps- I LOVE football. Never been to a UK BB game, but been to quite a few football games. Just thought I would point that out.

Yet you're the one who brought politics into the thread without a hint of apology for doing so & now want to be the judge of shutting it off. Quite the superiority complex.

I still don't understand. If you don't like it, why listen or click? Plenty of places to get your info.

It is like saying "I don't like Fox News (or MSNBC)" but you watch. I don't get it at all.

No one disagrees with that sentiment. I don't watch or listen except on rare occasions. You arE missing the point. I do not watch FoxNews either, but I advocate against it's harmfullness to society. Same concept with Jones and KSR. I find him/it to be a detriment to the football program because of many of the reasons already mentioned. I find it especially troubling that he is "associated" with the fb program thru media coverage on game day broadcasts. Defeatist/negative attitudes do nothing to embolden fans to support the program. Oscar Combs has been egregious in his remarks concerning the fb team throughout the years but is allowed to maintain his media role. If this were basketball, it would not be tolerated. I have the right to advocate against something although I'm smart enough not to use the product. That's generally how it works.

I really, really wish I could unread this.

You are mistaken. I've provided the related posts above for you. Rockford brought up FoxNews, etc. I simply replied to his comments. And since he used it to make his point, I responded in kind to illustrate my point regarding KSR. Also, your comprehension of my comments to RV are off base. He made judgemental comments towards me and I was simply trying to diffuse the situation. If anyone tried to make this political, it was him. But thanks for the personal attack. That is how I received your comments. I've done nothing to you and I will not apologize for my intelligence. This is how I communicate on a daily basis.

I think KSR (especially the radio show) gives UK basketball fans exactly what they want. It seems like a successful business model and they're great at what they do. I don't fault KSR for their lack of football coverage because (a) it's not a priority for them and (b) they're not good at it.

If you accept those two things then the only legitimate criticism of their football coverage are the reasons they give for not covering it. Don't say there's nothing to talk about in football just because fans will eat up anything basketball related (easy, formulaic programming). Nearly every radio program in the south finds something football related to discuss but miraculously UK football is devoid of stories? That's a little tough to buy. At least the host could just be honest and say football doesn't interest him nearly as much and move on.

The radio show is completely host driven (with token courtesy given to callers and even less given to the co-hosts). Yeah, calls are taken but it's not like their opinions are highly valued. Matt drives the conversation and is much more interested in basketball, randomness, politics, etc.... which is completely fine. Football isn't his lane.

If I go to the best steak house in the area and order a chicken sandwich, that's on me. Likewise... if I go to KSR and expect excellent football coverage that's also on me.

I always find it interesting that Fox News gets bashed all the time, but MSNBC and CNN don't. As if those channels don't have a bias. Why are people so afraid of Fox News, but not CNN and MSNBC, which are just as biased?

You guys miss Freddie 's post today or what? Must have missed the interview with Kash the other day too. I don't understand the hate. As an out of state fan I listen to KSR every day and appreciate all the things that site does. Matt admits he doesn't know football but I don't see the coaching staff lining up to guest host any other shows.

Don't like it, don't go or listen, start your own show. I love both teams and love my school and will never understand the absolute hate some of the football only fans have for the basketball team. Hell I don't understand what a football only fan is. If you love UK then love UK.

Not interested in a political debate as it has already raised the ire of some. But I will say I agree with you. I was simply trying to make a point about KSR earlier using the terms assigned by a previous poster. So in fairness to all, I do not care for or watch any cable news channels. They are all biased. I simply used fox because it was he first one mentioned. There is one non partisan website I find particularly entertaining. Its fact checks the things said on ALL the major network news channels and it isn't pretty.

So now that I've clarified my intent....man it would be great if we could move away from politics. I never intended for this thread to have anything political whatsoever.

It seems that most (both supporters and detracters of MJ and KSR) are missing my main concern entirely. Im not sure what else I can do but ask you to go back and read EVERY comment I've posted in this thread.

Okay...since it was pointed out, I went to KSR and read Maggard's piece. I'm sure I will be accused of nit picking, but the following are difficult to overlook. On a message board...sure. In a blog article...not as easy.

"The 2013 class was resourcefully assembled as Vince Marrow was deployed to Ohio and vital in-state players decided to stayed home."

"On my first Signing Day Show I also joined in the praise borage."

"...with the secondary purpose being to keep the 2016 class in-tact..."

"In no point in program history has the resources been so plentiful."

"...well the blame can only lie in Commonwealth Stadium newly upgraded bathroom mirrors.'

Well, since I swore off ever going over there due to the disgusting treatment of football which became apparent soon after they started up I could care less (yes, not good english) what they have on their blog.

However I do wonder why there is ZERO reports on here about player workouts, etc, is it all a big secret, and who is scouting pickup games anyway?

You hate anything and everyone that doesn't cater to football first. That is just wrong to be like that.

LOL

How wrong can you be. I am presently watching the women's soccer team on TV, and I really don't care for soccer that much. I watch all UK sports when I can, even the cheerleading championships. Of course I am a really big fan of UK basketball, usually so easy to watch, especially lately, and woman's basketball and baseball are both favorites of mine, I have also watched the recent track meets and Volleyball playoffs. I played a lot of slow pitch softball for almost 20 years, {great game and those women can really play) and watch all their games that I can.

What turned me off about their site (were you over there early on?) was not only did they rarely cover football but when they did they usually made fun of it, some of the comments they allowed were outrageous.

In summary, screw his site.

I am sure you are waiting with bated breath for the result of the soccer game, UK lost to A&M by 1-0 in the SEC championship game, lots of chances to tie it, but alas------

I love UK football, but it has yet to warrant the attention that many football only fans believe it deserves. If UK football produced a winning product, it would definitely take the state by storm.

I browsed back thru the posts on KSR until 8pm yday evening. All NBA related with lone exception being "Top 10 Tweets of Day"" (Which itself is always an automatic skip over).

As everyone has stated...don't like, dont read. That is correct. I will be attempting to move on from this thread as well. It just especially saddens me that UK football has to suffer on gameday because of the association (perceived or real) with two bball first guys. Two gentleman that have made negative comments about the football program in the past...and one who continues to "take shots" at his leisure.

I've said my peace....Go Cats!!!

Andy, I actually did the same thing. I thought maybe I should go back to KSR and see what I've been missing. I found a piece on an ex-player baking cookies, another ex who has been assigned the number 00 as well as a piece on the "best" foreign pro basketball teams. I decided I had enlightened myself enough.

More power to them, they obviously have found a niche of people to bore. One of those won't be me. Time to move on.

I do believe that if UK owned Rupp the money coming in would be a heck of a lot more.
I read several years ago about sales of apparel and if I remember right all sales goes towards the football budget. So if the bb program had 90% of sales then it would be going I to the football budget.
If you really want to know it doesn't mean nothing at all on where they stick money at. It all gets spread out anyway no matter where it goes.
I think UK is losing out on money by not owning it's own arena.
But what do we know, we might have a foundation with several billion in it like other universities do and go around pleading for money.

Ur being petty with this, I type from my phone and it changes words and phrases around all the time and I'm def no English lauterate. I don't mind reading something with some useful and insiteful info as long as it doesn't look like one of the callers to his show wrote it.
Could u imagine that? Lol. It spelled out exactly how they talk on the radio "when dat dare coach put richy in game I was appy..."

100% why I do not go their much at all anymore. Maybe 1x in a month, I feel like clawing my eyes out scanning through trying to find some useful info.

What is also equally disturbing is how no one on Liar posts any football news.

Feel free to judge me as you desire. I've made my peace with Freddie.

-i have had season tickets for both sports...traveled extensively to see both. Love both. Football pays the bills...that is just the reality.

-as one of the few places in America that actually values college bball outside of the tournament...UK is actually able to make money on bball...that is a good thing.

Did me message you? Or did he post something here? guess I missed it.

In all honesty Andy your the only one I've seen come on this board and post much of anything about football. Many others gripe about other sites being boring and post anything but football and yet they do not contribute anything here. You back up what you say by contributing to the board.
