SCjr schooled us on pick and roll defense and got what they wanted in the other end. Our guards coughed it up, and got pushed back, the whole game They manhandled us from start to finish. We should press that bunch from the time they walk in the gym if we see them again. Our out of bounds defense is the worst I have ever seen. We got nothing on offense.

But it is also true that DJ has the worst field-goal percentage defense on the team. That was on full display tonight as he was absolutely lit up. And Reeves has not been able to play defense from day one. And Trey Mitchell plays horrendous defense.

You simply can’t play these guys 30+ minutes per game expect to simultaneously play good defense.

It would probably be a good idea to play some different styles rather than always the same way. Press, change the pace of the game. We obviously need more possessions and need them to take quicker shots since we can’t defend. You never know what you are gonna need to do. To always play the same way really backs you into a corner if something isn’t working. The officials let them manhandle us on screens and drives to basket and basically took us out of our game early. And we never adjusted.

This. We never change anything. We cover ball screen same way every time even though our personnel is awful for that coverage. Opposition can so easily game plan because we never change anything.

Although he was dunked on twice, z is absolutely our best defender at the 5. Moved his feet on ball screen defense and played it well.

Onyenso is the worst. We are giving points away putting him out there the way we cover ball screen. If he's in we absolutely need zone or constantly change pnr defense.

Yes. Their 5 is wide on the hedge, with the arms up. We don’t even contest the 5 half the time. I’d rather face guard everyone including the 5 with this team. We need to run some sets, this team looked like old Cal nonsesne with the Point getting snuffed up and guys standing the corner too much. Hard to watch.

This was an opponent coaching clinic. Cal is simply too invested in his guys getting drafted to be bothered with benching the ones (with talent) who won't invest themselves in the game, and replacing them with guys who are less talented but will bust their butts. This is Cal on full display.
