Give Cal Murray at the wing with Skal and Poythress as the bigs; Ulis/Briscoe as our guards and IMO no team is better (on paper). Lee, Willis, Matthews, Mulder, and Hawkins as a very, very good bench.

We know our OOC schedule and one could reasonably see us 12-1 going into SEC play.
With the schedule not quite set I have read we play a similar slate to 2012-13 (SEC road games at Florida, Vandy, Texas A&M, Arkansas, etc)

Maybe losses at a tough Vandy and Texas A&M; unbeaten in the SEC at Rupp.

It is not a given Cal would focus 100% on the SECT; so assume the worst and say we go 2-1.

30-4 going into selection Sunday and in line for a 1 seed.

Final 4 caliber season but I worry if we lose in the Final weekend people may go off the deep end. I just look at each season and say "tomorrow is promised to no one"

Can't wait to see how things unfold.

Next person I hear say anything about "40-0" gets curb stomped.

That said, if we get Murray, we will be very solid all around. My guess would be a 3-5 loss season.

In fairness, we were ONE bad call away from 40-0 this past season. It is not like there was NO chance we finish with
that incredible record in 2015. Personally, I predicted 39-1. Hated to be right on that loss column....

I'm not sure you can say we're one bad call away from 40-0. UK pretty much shit the bed the last 4 minutes against Wisconsin, and they would have still had to beat Duke. They were obviously very close, but they also had a few close games before that that could have easily gone the other way: Texas A&M, Ole Miss, LSU, and Notre Dame to name a few.

That is a fair point. I do think we would handled Duke much easier. Wisconsin was a bad match up for UK; Duke was
a bad matchup for Wisconsin; and UK was a bad match-up for Duke.

Had we played MSU in the semi-final and Duke played Wisky I THINK we would have hammered Sparty, Duke would
have been worn out playing the Badgers and we would have rolled to 40-0 Monday night.

I think we'll have as good a chance as anyone next year with Murray.

The thing I love about Jamal is he is potentially a volume scorer - he's one of those guys who can bust out and hang 30 points on you in any given night, and we really haven't had anyone like that in several years.

He was what Malik Newman was supposed to be, but I think he'll ultimately be a better college and pro player than Malik.

Still hurdles to jump to get Murray, who knows if the kid even re-classifies or not.The way this years recruiting has gone,I'm not getting my hopes up of landing this kid, probably ends up at Oregon.

Too much sunshine here in this thread. This team is going to take some lumps, especially early.
Every team in the country is going to take lumps early. That at the point. No team is going to be on the level of UK or even Wisconsin or Duke next year. With Murray, UK would have just as much if not more talent than any team in the country. Nobody ever said it would be easy. That's on you.

KU's ass. If we get Murray, we're favored against everybody IMO. Skal will dominate them on the interior, and Ulis, Briscoe, and Murray will be too much for them to handle. Not to mention Poy will be a beast at the 4, and we'll have a good 3pt shooter coming off the bench in Mulder. Then Lee will be a lot better too.

and you base this on????

The odds Murray scores 30 in any one game next season, let alone several, is probably fairly small.

I guess because he has had several games where he had over 30 for his HS team which consisted of quite a few div 1 talent and those games were against other teams full of div 1 talent.
He had 30 in the nike hoop summit game which was a competitive game against the best best players in America. What makes you think he couldn't do that again? I've seen him in person go over 30 several times while being double teamed.

Matter of fact when I watched him play his offensive scoring ability reminded me a lot of Meeks from outside but Murray likes to drive to the hole when the guy is playing him too tight.

He gets assists by making the opponents come to him in those triple teams while driving. maker cleaned up on those dishes.

I personally agree with you, but it really makes you realize how hard going 40-0 really is. A team is inevitably going to have a handful of games where it's decided on the last possession - or the last couple - and getting the bounces or making the plays in every one of those games is really difficult.

I vote for UNC to be number one.

Preseason #1 has not been good to us the last two years.

67-12 and 2 Final 4s (1 title game appearance) would seem to contradict that statement.

Darryl

Well, I am not complaining, I just mean that I would rather not be the "team to beat" next season. I'd rather be number one at the end of the year.

Oh please, no! Let's get back on topic and not get into this AGAIN! I think this horse has been beaten enough. I'm guilty of it as well, just want to give it a rest for a while.

PS. I do agree with what you said though. Lol

Who cares about early rankings. Only value is fan bragging rights which is no value at all. More important to line up for a top four seed for the dance.

I'll wait till he signs and see them all play together before I get cool aid drunk, but I like our team we got now, I don't think coach is finished yet either;)

This may sound crazy, but if they add Murray, I think they may be a better team than last year. They will almost certainly lose more games than last year, but I think the team will have the stars and fit Cal's coaching preference better than last year. Most don't want to admit it, but the real strength last year was in depth, something that is not necessary in college basketball, especially come NCAA tournament time with all the timeouts and breaks. As Alex said when discussing next year's team, you only need 5 guys to play. I am in the camp that if you can get 6-8 guys that can truly compete at this level, you are good. If that number is 6, then you need 1-2 players in the mold of D Miller that can play multiple positions. I prefer to have a starting 5, and a back-up at guard, wing, and big. With Murray, we have that, Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, Alex, Skal, with Matthews and Mulder as backups at guard and wing, and Lee as the backup big. At that point we are good. Not to mention that all those players fit together, as they will all want to play fast, and will be ultra athletic. Last year, the team was mixed. Some players were better playing up and down, while others were better playing half court. That allowed us to avoid losses against teams that played a certain way, but on the other side of the coin, it also never let us form a true identity, and also made several players play a style that limited them.

With him UK wins around 26. Without him around 23.
Cal has averaged almost 32 wins per year here, with 2012/13 being the outlier at 21 wins and we lost our best player.

You think Cal will only manage 23 wins without the guy? With a good vet team coming back and 3 studs?

Im not pumping sunshine like some of the others who think 2-5 losses, but only 23 i wins is the other end of the spectrum.

Murray stayed 4 days at UK 2 on an official and 2 days on a non official visit. Seems like a lot of interest here. He may be working on his reclassifying now. I think Oregon is out of ships. I like this class very much as is but adding Murray would be awesome if that's what he decides to do.

I was just talking regular season. I think 23-8 is fairly realistic with a very tough schedule. However they can win more. Post season I think they will definitely rack up wins and add to their total.

Worst case scenario is 23-8 regular season, IMHO.

I doubt we lose at home.

Lose to Duke, @UCLA, OSU, and @KU.

Then go 14-4 in the SEC.

I think we end up at 26-5 regular season.

Lose to Duke, @UCLA or OSU, and @KU.

Then go 16-2 in the SEC.

We lose in the SEC tourney championship and enter the tourney as a 2 seed at 28-6.
