'He'll Run Through a Wall For You. He's Got No Ego'

Really like the idea of this guy...I think he gets an unfair bashing from some of our fans who only see stars and not the need for a skilled specialist.

He had 20+ games of multiple 3's last season, 10 in which he hit 4 or more.

Also hit 46% while shooting a large volume of 3s...just sounds great to me, the 3 point looks in our offense are usually open anyways - so I don't care that he shot these %s against JUCOS.

I like the fact that Wichita State has offered him (so long as he still picks UK)... Marshall has a pretty good eye for skilled guards. And for the much deserved flack we give him, so does Crean.

I think this is one of those situations where like in football recruiting you can often tell more from a recruits offer sheet than you can from their star ranking. Coaches and programs that have produced some pretty talented guards (college and pro level) want this guy.

As the commercial goes, Are you up for anything? I am up for anything. Players come along at different stages. I see nothing wrong with a guy needing a couple of years at a JUCO. If I am not mistaken, Fred Hoiberg has been having some solid success with transfers and JUCO players. It's just here at UK they are surrounded by top level one and done high school prospects.

A name I keep thinking of in comparing Mulder is Roburt Sallie. He was a Juco guard that BCG was trying to land after his first year. Calipari took a look at him and ended up landing him down at Memphis.

Sallie played about 15 mpg his first year and only scored about 6 ppg (on 47% from 3). Although by the time the post season rolled around he was averaging 25 mpg and about 10 ppg. He hit 10 3 pointers against Cal-State Northridge.

I thought I read coming Mulder stats were 50% fg, 46% from 3(90/190), and 82% ft and 16ppg and 6rbg. He can really shoot the 3 and is 6'5 and can score from inside and out. He sound alot like Devin Booker and hopefully he can fit right in as our 3 point threat next year.

Quite a bit more athletic than Booker. Likes to penetrate the lane more also.

UK needs a high-skill shooter. Mulder gives us that.

Would love to have this kid. Plus, he has two years of eligibility. Can't go wrong with multi-year skill players, as we haven't had many in the program as of late. Would be nice to have Hawkins, Mulder, Lee (crossing fingers), and Willis as seniors; Ulis as a junior (crossing some more fingers); and Matthews as a sophomore.

Cal could throw in a few five stars among them and away we'd go...again.

It would be awesome to have the group you described mixed in with what could be an outstanding freshmen group next year. But, I'm afraid we would have to do a lot more than cross fingers for all that to happen.

The article says he started as a Freshman. I have read several posts that he was the 6th man (not a starter) this year on his JC team. Is there some sort of explanation? Love his stats and video, but not a starter and a JC All American?? Odd if true.

He started 18 of 35 games. It was mainly just how stacked his team was. #1 in the nation. Nobody on their team started every game. The coach said that he expected 7 guys on the team to play division 1 ball.

In basketball, it's always better to get the 4 year player. For those who don't think so, look at the number of freshmen and sophomores who impact college basketball, compared to the number of juco transfers. At the level where Kentucky schedules and plays, it's rare for a juco to impact. Not unheard of, but rare. Nobody can seriously believe Calipari would be after Mulder if he had snagged Newman or another top high school wing. But given where things now stand, we are lucky that Mulder is interested. Even though he is a backup plan, Mulder will be a nice fit with the returning roster. The key for Kentucky is Diallo. This is not a knock on Poythress, Lee, Willis, or anyone else. All good players. But at this point, anyone who can't see that Diallo is in a different class of player doesn't get it. With Labissiere, Poythress, Lee, and Mulder, we will compete. But if we add Diallo, he would take is to a different level. And I would not underestimate Maker. If Maker enrolls in January, he would have to play next season and the following season to become draft eligible. Maker is a better player than people think. Put Maker under Kenny Payne's teachings for 2 years, and everyone except Rick Pitino will be pleasantly surprised by the results.

Are you sure about this? He would be of age and not sure how his Canadian residency affects the rule.

Exactly. Some of these people don't understand some of cals best and funnest teams have had guys just like mulder on them. And Mulder doesn't have sites set on the NBA, which I'm ready for. We need a few guys like Ulis and Mulder. Rodney Carney was awesome, and a three star. Sallie would light it up, not a blue chip. CDR was one of cals best ever, period, not a top 25 prospect. I'll take those over goodwins any day of the week, and I think it's about time cal start evaluating a bit like he used to. Not completely, just a mix. Especially on the shooting end.

Good post, but...
If he chooses UK he will have his sights on the NBA.

What I mean is at this time, he's the type that is going to feel like a UK offer IS the NBA. I mean, he's got good offers already, but he's going to put them all on hold to see if cal wants in. That's a kid that really wants to be here, he's talented, and on no draft boards.

Sign him up yesterday.

This really is a great pick up for us. He was a 4 star coming out of high school if Im not mistaken. Plays really hard and can stroke it. With Ulis and Briscoe's penetration, theres going to be lots of kicks and clean looks from the perimeter. My only concern with him is the possibility that the lights could end up being too bright for him playing here. UK is a big jump from playing at Vincennes.

Watching that video dude has got some go go gadget arms! I know he is only 6"4 but with that length he can guard college SF's which is something next year's team needs if Brown take's his talents elsewhere as expected.

Lets not forget this aspect of Cal's recruiting... character. I know it seems we've missed out on some players, etc and this in no way is making any type of judgment on any of that has ever chosen to go elsewhere since Cal has been here.

But unlike MANY other coaches, Cal
isn't going to lower his standards in terms of a players attitude and character no matter how good that player is. He wants good kids at KY that buy into team, sacrifice, conduct, public service, school, dealing with fans, etc... and quite honestly as fans, so do we! Trust in Cal, he knows what he's doing.

Mulder's coach...

“He’s an extremely hard worker. … He’s just put in a lot of time. You’ve got a 6-4, pushing 6-5, very athletic kid who can shoot. And he’s a high character guy. He’s been pretty appealing to a lot of people because of that. He’ll run through a wall for you. He’s got no ego. Cal likes those guys that can fit in and don’t try to be all about themselves.”
- Vincennes assistant coach Brian Davis

I don't think so. That first segment tells a lot but, it's not good.

I'm hoping Cal gets Mulder signed today. That'll ease the Newman sting quite a bit.

The more I hear about this kid the more I love him. I sure hope we can seal the deal !
