Past 5 years, we as a collective fan base have been aching for a coach that will put the program first, recruit players that stay multiple years, and focus on winning instead of sending players to the NBA. The administration swung for the fences and struck out with a few A-list candidates, who had no desire to coach here.
We instead hire, or in process of hiring, if he don't back out, a former player that won a championship here, that has put together winning seasons at a school that you literally can't even have coffee at. Recruited players with one hand tied behind his back and still beat Kansas on their home court, more than our former coach could do with a team full of NBA players!!
I'm stoked to have Pope. His playing style is fun, he loves UK, and I think he will have great success here. Especially with the NIL support I hear he is already getting. Can't wait till Cals return to Rupp!!
