Cats lose to the Vols for the 36th time in the last 39 games. It was a good game, with a few key plays being the difference.

Kentucky had the ball 3 times with an opportunity to take the lead. The opening kickoff. The Cats first possession in the 2nd half when a sack and failed 4th down ended the drive in Vol territory. The first drive of the 4th quarter when we got into Vol territory but couldn’t get it done.

Some key plays. Stoops going for it on 4th down in our own territory in the 1st quarter resulting in a Vol FG. The Vols getting the benefit of a questionable catch at the end of the 2nd quarter leading to a Vol FG. Then the Vols ricochet in a FG. Those special teams points proved to be the difference.

Cats defense simply could not stop the Tenn ground game and repeatedly failed to get the ball carrier on the ground … many in critical situations where the Cats had the stop. Huge factor in the game.

Leary was really good tonight … nearly 400 yards in passing. My hope is that Coen has finally recognized - after 8 games - what a lot of people have been saying all year, Leary is more effective in the short passing game. And, the OL did a good job in pass protection against a good Vol DL.

Tough loss for the Cats … 3 game losing streak. You have to protect the home field, but now the Cats have to find a way to win some games on the road.
